Paulo Coelho SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENTS Many 10th grade students and all 11th grade students will be involved in the new Smarter Balanced Assessments this spring. Students if you re not sure if you're involved in testing, please check with your classroom teacher today. Since the testing is online, the format is different and you ll want a chance to get comfortable with the program before test day. You re invited to celebrate National Public Works Week on Monday, May 18 th, at a FREE event at ShoWare Center. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn what City jobs are open, as well as upcoming city employment needs. Human Resources personnel will be available to answer your employment questions. Please see the flyer for additional information. Tuesday, May 19 SBA Testing Gr 11 Wednesday, May 20 SBA Testing Gr 11 METRO BUS TICKETS The main office has limited numbers of bus tickets for students who need assistance in getting to and from class. We re able to purchase those at a reduced rate for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. The fastest way for students to become eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch is through completing an online form. If you believe you re eligible and have not filled out a form this year, please take time to do that this week. Counselors or our social worker can help you fill out that form.

3 KSD STUDENTS: STUDENT EDITION KSD STUDENT CLIMATE SURVEY Are you making progress toward graduation? At the beginning of every month, igrad staff members look closely at student records to see if you made progress toward graduation in the last month. You can make progress by finishing a class, completing a High School and Beyond Plan, passing a state test, or improving Reading or Math skills as measured by the iready tests. If you didn t make progress last month, expect to have a conversation with a teacher or counselor SOON. We want to make sure you have a plan and are getting the support you need so that every month you get closer and closer to meeting your goals. HOT JOBS! The YMCA compiles a list of current job postings every week, called Hot Jobs, and shares it with igrad. The list includes part-time and full-time jobs in Seattle and South King County. Some jobs require applicants to be at least 16 years old, 18 years old, or to have a high school diploma or GED, so read carefully to find the job postings that fit you. Stop by Ginger s office (our igrad Social Worker) anytime to ask for the Hot Jobs list. Ginger is also available to help students complete a job application, write a resume, and prepare for a job interview. Students: Each year the Kent School District makes an effort to gather feedback from parents, staff and students regarding how we think things are going in the district -- what s working and what s not. We d appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete the survey. Your teacher can give you the survey link. Please finish the survey by June 5, TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=76LJ8p3M KENT SCHOOL DISTRICT APP Kent School District now has an app, available through itunes and the GooglePlay store. Download the app to get KSD announcements and updates on events taking place around the district.
