6 Courses available at Focus Focus Training and Development offer a fantastic choice of courses available in apprenticeships and work based qualifications. These are available at a range of levels. The qualification you take will help you in your job role and will offer work related support and training to help you identify skills required to optimise your day to day work. We will support you and inform advice and guide you into choosing the right course for you. All training with Focus will provide you with an Accredited Nationally Recognised Qualification. Administration The term administration covers roles that will involve organizing people and resources, which include executive assistants, secretaries, data entry clerks, office juniors and administration assistants. With the wide range of skills you develop within this field, you can move into a management role as you gain more experience. Advice and Guidance If your job involves helping and advising others, then these qualifications can help you develop your skills and progress at work. You ll cover topics from administration and referrals to providing advice, guidance and information services. Contact Centre This qualification will allow you to work in areas such as sales, information retrieval and account management. The majority of the role will involve working on the telephone and on computer systems, and you will be required to listen and communicate to solve problems whilst working with a team in a fast-paced environment.

7 Cleaning, Cleaning/ Housekeeping, Environmental Cleaning Housekeeping covers a variety of roles, including: tidying rooms, cleaning bathrooms, bedding, furniture and windows, replacing items such as towels, bedding and toiletries, and replenishing tea and coffee supplies. You will be trained in the appropriate use of eco-friendly cleaning products, designed to reduce harm towards the environment and human health. Construction Our construction qualification combines practical, on-the-job experience with theory-based learning to ensure that candidates acquire all the necessary technical and practical skills needed to succeed within this exciting industry. Customer Service Excellent customer service is key to the success of any business or organization. You ll be working at the front end of an employer s business activities and regularly assist customers. You will be making sure that customers are dealt with in a positive way by offering advice, answering questions or handling complaints. Driving Our qualification has been designed to provide those who already work as goods vehicle drivers (or those working towards their license) with evidence of their driving ability. It covers a broad range of interesting areas, enabling you to demonstrate your professionalism, safety and efficiency all of which are expected of experienced drivers.

8 Food & Beverage With this qualification you could specialize in the main operations involved in manufacturing and processing a wide range of food and drink products. These include exciting areas such as bakery production, butchery, fishmongers or confectionary. Food Packaging The manufacture of food products is largely mechanized; therefore this interesting apprenticeship involves adjusting machine settings to handle changes from one type of product and packaging to another. Your role will also involve identifying errors during machine operation and correcting the machines as soon as a fault develops. Functional Skills In addition to allowing you to demonstrate your knowledge within these crucial fields, Functional Skills is also about knowing when and how to use this knowledge in every-day situations. The qualification involves taking separate tests which will give you a qualification if you pass them. This qualification is ideal whether you are in or out of work. Health & Social Care Social care involves assisting people, such as the elderly or those with disabilities or learning difficulties, within community venues, the patients homes or in care homes. Your duties will involve helping them to get dressed and do their shopping, and also taking them on various days out.

9 Health & Safety On this course you will gain an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the important of wearing PPE and the purpose of its provision, the safe use of electrical equipment and an understanding of how to safely use electrical circuits. This will involve identification of the items which should and shouldn t be included in a first aid box. Hospitality & Catering This qualification will allow learners to understand the hazards specific to their workplace, including fire procedures for both themselves and guests, necessary controls within the kitchen environment and the necessity to follow company health and safety rules and procedures. Housing Our experienced trainers will give you the essential background knowledge to ensure that you are fully aware of current issues facing the housing sector today. This eye-opening qualification will also prepare you for a practical role within housing and deal with any issues that may arise during your work ICT This course includes development of practical skills for common software applications, increased confidence in the use of ICT and the ability to operate the equipment safety and correctly. By undertaking this course, you will learn a wide range of job roles such as software engineering, website development and computer programming.

10 Key Skills Key Skills covers a set of useful and transferrable skills that can be used in a huge range of situations. There are two types of Key Skills qualifications available. The first is Main Key Skills and the second is Wider Key Skills. Learning & Development This varied course is for anyone working in the learning and development sector for example, as learning mentors. Depending on your own personal, this qualification can either help you to gain a deeper insight and increased competency within the sector, or can allow you to progress from your current role into a higher managerial or supervisory role. Logistics This exciting qualification is about the safe and efficient receipt, movement, storage, handling and dispatch of goods in a warehousing and logistics environment. Through an interesting variety of units, the course allows individuals to demonstrate their understanding of this dynamic industry and show their competence in meeting its needs. Management & Team Leading Our popular qualification in Team Leading has been created for current or aspiring team leaders who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in managing others. The course allows you to develop your knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a team leader by focusing on specific skills areas.

11 Manufacturing This qualification recognizes the skills, competence and knowledge of those who work in a variety of roles within the manufacturing industry. This will enable you to demonstrate your competence within your own manufacturing job role and to develop the essential work-based skills required for this dynamic industry. Retail This fantastic qualification provides you with a wide variety of options to choose from, whether you want to find your first job as a shop assistant or show that you ve got the skills and knowledge to progress to a managerial role. Private Hire/ Taxi If you re already providing a taxi or private hire service, then this interesting qualification will help you to further develop the skills and knowledge needed to improve your performance in this role. This course will open greater opportunities for you to develop new skills, give you recognition for your existing skills and help develop better career progression opportunities. Road Passenger Are you employed as a driver of passenger carrying vehicles? Then this exciting qualification will enable you to prove your skills, knowledge and understanding of your job against the standard expected by your industry. It will help to broaden your knowledge of related passenger carrying legislation.

12 Sales This interesting qualification is ideal for learners who are moving up the career ladder or want to develop some specialist sales skills, which include understanding buyer behavior and face-to-face sales techniques. It is an exciting course which can help you develop the skills they have within their role. Warehousing This interesting and unique qualification is about the safe and efficient receipt, movement, storage, handling and dispatch of goods in a warehousing and logistics environment. Candidates will be required to make decisions within agreed boundaries and limits.

14 Apprenticeships What is an apprenticeship qualifications equivalent to? Intermediate Level 2 Advanced Level 3 Higher Level 4 5 GCSE passes 2 A level passes Foundation Degree Apprenticeships are a learning programme which provides the learner with in depth knowledge of their chosen subject and gives them on the job training. Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices ability and the industry sector. The minimum salary is 2.65 per hour; however, many apprentices earn significantly more.

15 What benefit to an employer are apprentices? 80% of employers who employ apprentices feel they make the workplace more productive 81% of consumers prefer to use companies who take on apprentices 83% of employers who employ apprentices rely on their apprenticeship programme to provide workers with the skills they need for future employment 92% of employers who employ apprentices believe that apprenticeships lead to a more satisfied & motivated workforce.

16 Funding an apprentice in work The AGE grant: The age grant is the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers and is available for anyone aged who is taking part in an apprenticeship. The National Apprenticeship Service will provide Apprenticeship Grants to employers with up to 1000 employees recruiting 16 to 24 year olds with a value of 1,500, to encourage employers to take on new apprentices. Eligible employers are those who have never employed an apprentice before or who have not employed one in the last 12 months. Wage Incentive: The wage incentive is available if you employ someone for 16 hours or more each week in a job lasting more than 26 weeks. There are two rates: For part-time work between 16 and 29 hours a week 1, For full-time work of 30 hours or more a week 2,275. This will be paid 26 weeks after the employee starts work. Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees can claim a part payment eight weeks after the employee starts work.

18 Work-based learning What is a QCF qualifications equivalent to? QCF L1 QCFL2 QCFL3 QCF L4 3-4 GCSE s at grade D-E 4 or 5 GCSE s at grade A*-C 2 or more A Levels BTEC Higher Apprenticeships aren t for everyone that s why Focus Training offers QCF qualifications, or as they were previously know NVQ s. To achieve a QCF, candidates must prove that they have the ability (competence) to carry out their job to the required standard. QCFs are based on National Occupational Standards that describe the 'competencies' expected in any given job role. Typically, candidates will work towards a QCF that reflects their role in a paid or voluntary position. For example someone working in an admin office role may take a QCF in Business and Administration

20 Pre-employment training Focus Training and Development are proud to run our very own preemployment programs. Focus run a variety of pre-employment programs which are tailored to the specific needs of each employer and their job roles within the company. Focus Training and Devlopment will pre-train any one who we are helping into employement to esnure all candidates and learners feel comfortable and happy with their move into employment. Once the training is complete is provides ethusiastic applicants who are trained in job specific areas and know how to use their skills effectively and to adapt those to their role. (subject to eligibility) A fantastic example of our pre employment programmes is Bright Horizons. Bright Horizons is a fantastic tool to enable those who are looking for work to tune up their skills to ensure they 100% ready for their first steps back into employment.

21 Focus on recruitment

22 Recruitment Our recruitment service is FREE to employers and those looking for work. It allows Focus Training to help move individuals into working environments in which they will strive. So how does it work? 1. Focus Training will identify with an employer exactly what they would like the job role to include. 2. We will advertise the position on behalf of the employer 3. We will complete a CV sift of all applicants and search through our candidates who are currently registered with Focus. 4. Pre-train all eligible candidates to ensure they are prepared for their new role. 5. Employer will interview candidates to see who they feel is most suitable. 6. Focus will support the employee in their new job role with a qualification programme that matches their day to day work, and will also train and support those who work alongside the new employee to help everything run smoothly.

23 Commercial training

24 Commercial Training Commercial training is training which comes at a cost but is essential in everyday work. For costs on any of our commercial training please contact the Business Development Team within Focus. Focus offers three separate types of commercial training: Mandatory Commercial Training: Driver CPC This is a mandatory qualification for anyone who drives a vehicle 3.5 tons and above. This qualification must be completed before September 2014 Fork Lift Tuck Courses will be based upon practical and theoretical exercises to prepare the candidate for testing and certification by the Health and Safety Commission. First Aid Successful completion of our course means that employees will gain the skills necessary to manage any injuries or illnesses in the workplace, and they will also receive a certificate in recognition of their First Aid knowledge and abilities.

25 Health & Safety Creating a safe workplace is a legal requirement and it is therefore the responsibility of both employer and staff to ensure that Health and Safety standards are met and upheld. Commercial Training: Leadership & Management A good team leader and manager are essential to any organization. They inspire better performance from their team members and help to motivate others to succeed. Health & Safety Focus deliver health and safety qualifications to ensure standards are sustained in the workplace.

26 Bespoke Courses This is an added extra Focus can offer, these are course which are tailored to individual s needs. 28 Learning with Focus Taking a qualification with Focus training is an exciting and fun opportunity. A learner with Focus will be assigned an individual assessor/ tutor who will visit to help each learner through the qualification they are taking. Our courses also include one-to-one sessions to ensure that learners are able to develop crucial skills such as Maths and English at their own pace. Our specialist delivery team are 100% commited to helping individuals stay on track with their course and providing any extra support needed. This can include advice on every day topics including issues in your personal life outside of work. Focus is always here to ensure you are happy in the work you are doing.
