Activity: Time for Tea Nothing required Use the children s classic song I m a Little Teapot to help your child combine motor skills with singing. Sing the song while using the hand motions, encouraging your little one to follow. Praise them when they do. I m a little teapot, short and stout. Here is my handle here is my spout. When I get all steamed up, hear me shout. Tip me over and pour me out! Gross Motor Skills Musicality Mimicking If your child enjoys the music with the hand motions, YouTube has an almost endless supply of child-friendly songs that include hand motions.

Activity: Cleaning House Damp rag, spray bottle with water, small sweeper with dustpan (if you have a Swiffer, take out the middle section for a tot-sized cleaner) When it is time for you to do some scrubbing, encourage your child to follow along and help they will love the feeling of helping. Show them how to rub things to clean them, and how to clean up the floor. This is a great time to have a conversation about the importance of keeping things clean. CAUTION: Do not let child touch cleaning supplies. Helping Around the House Mimicking Adults Laundry time is a fantastic time for learning. Show your toddler how to fold washcloths or kitchen hand towels. Begin to show them how to match socks by color, but save folding them for another day.

Activity: Ribbon Dance Streamers, Scissors Before showing your child this activity, cut a couple of strips of streamers about 1 ½ feet long. Show them to your child by dancing with the streamers, then handing them over and encouraging them to do the same. Show them how to shake them fast and slow, wiggle them up and down, side to side, and of course, twirling! Caution: Do not let your child near scissors or unattended with streamers. Gross Motor Development You might want to get the video camera out for this one! After exploring with the streamers, turn on a music video or exercise video and mimic the movements with streamers. Your child will soon follow with giggles to come!

Activity: Shake It Up, Baby! Baby food jars, water, dish soap, food coloring, glue gun Before showing your child this activity, fill the baby food jars 2/3 full with water and add liquid dish detergent. Add a few drops of food coloring into each jar. Close the lid tightly, sealing it with a glue gun. Let your child shake the jars and watch as the bubbles form and settle. Explain what they are seeing - talk about the colors, ask them to shake the blue one. CAUTION: Never leave your child unattended with the jars as they may open or break. Don t let your child near the glue gun. Fine Motor Development Language Development Let your child pick their favorite color and as they shake it, walk around the house together looking for objects of the same color.

Activity: Breakfast Painting White bread, milk, food coloring, bowls, paint brush Pour a little milk into the bowls and add a tiny amount of food coloring (2 bowls will be enough). Give your child the paintbrush and let them paint on the bread. Once they are finished, toast it and the colors stay on! Fine Motor Development Language Development Still have the painting bug? Take it outside with nothing more than a couple of paintbrushes and a bucket of water. Paint shapes and objects on the concrete, then watch them disappear!

Activity: Baggie Painting Gallon Ziploc bag, paper, tape, non-toxic paint Place a sheet of white paper inside the bag, then squirt small amounts of paint into the bottom. Carefully close the bag and tape it to the top of the table. Let your child experiment by running their fingers over the top of the bag. While they are creating the art, talk with them about the colors and how it feels on their fingers ( cold, squishy ). When they finish, you can slip our the soggy paper and let it dry for their first masterpiece to hand on the refrigerator! Sensory Exploration Visual Stimulation Ready for some more baggie fun? Add vanilla pudding into a Ziploc bag with a few drops of food coloring. Let your child mix, then add another color and watch the changes together.
