2 Our People Sir Roger Fry Chairman & Founder, King s Group The education we provide shaped the future of our students lives and the world in which they will live, work and contribute to. Sir Roger Fry was born in Portsmouth and educated in London before entering the teaching profession. In 1969 founded King s College, The British School of Madrid. He subsequently founded eight other schools in four countries: The United Kingdom, Spain, Panama and Latvia. From 1996 to 2011 he was chairman of the Council of British International Schools and is now its President. He served as a Director of the Independent Schools Council for four years. He is a Governor of The Royal Grammar School Worcester, and a member of the Education Advisory Group of the British Council. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Portsmouth and is an Honorary Fellow of Trinity College Oxford. In 2012 he was awarded a knighthood for his services to UK Education Internationally. Elena Benito CEO, King s Group Ms. Elena Benito is the CEO of King s Group, which she joined in Prior to joining our Group, she worked as CFO for Zed Latam, and Finance Director for Monsanto in Spain and Portugal. Ms Benito trained as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte in both Spain and the UK, and is a member of the Spanish Institute of Chartered Accountants. Graham Best Graham is the extremely experienced Principal of St. John s College, Southsea and also a Governor of Highbury College in Portsmouth. As an ISI Inspector, he brings considerable experience in in the running of highly successful schools. Richard Schofield Chief Executive Officer, KGA Richard Schofield has a wealth of school leadership experience. He is one of the few head teachers to have led a school serving one of the most disadvantaged catchment areas in the country through four successive outstanding Ofsted inspections. Terry Parkin Vice Chairman, KGA Terry Parkin has had a distinguished career in education working in London and across South East England. He has held amongst other roles that of Senior Education Advisor for Portsmouth City Council, Chief Inspector of Schools in Tower Hamlets, and Director of Education in Southwark. Sir Roger Chairs the Board of Trustees for the King s Group Academies. This team are supported by a strong team of outstanding UK Headteachers and HMI s to ensure that the highest possible standards are achieved with regular robust challenge and monitoring. Michael Cooper OBE Michael Cooper has had a distinguished career in education in England in both the independent and maintained sectors, as well as in Schools overseas in Europe in Africa and Asia. After a Headship of a 1,200 pupil secondary school in East Sussex he became Principal of the British School in the Netherlands, a 3-18 school on four sites with 1,400 pupils on the roll CLLR Michael John Holloway OBE Michael John Holloway was British Ambassador to the Republic of Panama between before leaving the UK s Diplomatic Service to pursue other interests. In addition to being a Board Member of the King s Group, he is currently a Special Representative of the Foreign Secretary, and a District and Town Councillor for the District of Dover, and town of Sandwich respectively.

3 About King s Group Our Vision and Mission Our vision is to be at the forefront of British Education internationally. Our mission is to provide high quality education within a small community of outstanding schools in the UK that will deliver a transformative learning experience to all our students within the context of a global community of schools. Through the use of engaging and effective teaching based on our core values: honesty, faith and courage, combined with the best, most up-to-date UK educational practice, we aim to enable students at all our schools to achieve their academic ambitions and lifetime careers in the context of a global education community. At the same time we will nurture their individual talents and emphasise the importance of educating the whole child with attention to their physical, emotional and social development. We are determined to make a positive difference to the future of our students, their families and the wider community as well as the careers of our staff. About King s Group Since it s initiation in 1969, King s Group now leads seven outstanding schools, renowned for academic excellence, outstanding progress and behaviour; all schools follow the English National Curriculum, along with local mandatory curriculum requirements and tests. These schools are all British international private schools, based in the UK, Spain and Panama. They all teach the English National Curriculum in English and take British examinations to prepare students for university entry at top institutions internationally. King s Group educates over 4,000 students and student numbers in our schools continue to grow every year as the schools expand. Despite 80% of students speaking languages other than British the progress they make to take British GCSE s and A level examinations is outstanding. More than 80 different countries are represented within King s College schools. Why in the UK? After a lifetime developing schools, Sir Roger Fry is passionate about contributing back to the UK state educatoin system by opening a small number of schools offering the same level of provision as in his international British schools.

4 About King s Group Academies King s Group wish to build on their extensive experience by establishing a small community of academies in England with the same aspirations, ethos and values within the context of a global community of schools. To support our aim, King s Group Academies was established to spearhead the new schools initiative. In February 2014 King s Group was recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) as a Multi Academy Trust sponsor, enabling us to open state schools in England. Our academies will be academically excellent and steeped in British traditions. Whilst utilising the most up to date teaching methods, our academies will nuture individual students to develop the confidence, resilience and appetite neccessary to succeed in life. Working with the wider King s family, the British schools will offer an exceptional and enriching international dimension to their students, with a range of teaching styles. King s Group has a long and distinguished history of educational leadership. British schools from as far away as Asia and Latin America look to King s for inspiration and admire our expertise in all areas of education. Leadership is one of our real strengths. 6 What we offer Academic Excellence King s Group Academies offer a curriculum that focusses on ensuring all students develop robust core skills, but taught in a way that allows every child to make outstanding progress, whatever their starting point. Our desire is that every child has the opportunity to progress to further education or training, and fulfil their career ambitions. Whilst the curriculum may appear quite traditional, the approach to teaching and learning integrates the very latest and best of approaches, supported by robust and appropriate use of technology. Within the curriculum, there will be a very strong emphasis on numeracy and literacy at all Key Stages. All students will grow to be confident at analysing information, expressing ideas and supporting their arguments persuasively and to the widest possible audience. King s College students are Our schools will offer a rich curriculum that develops scientific understanding and uses the humanities to develop a broad understanding of the modern world. Technological and creative subjects will drive our students capacity to engage and interact, as well as preparing them for adult life. Above all, the curriculum will be flexible enough to accommodate all students individual needs through Individual Learning Plans, mentoring and close relationships with parents. Global Languages We live in a world that depends on communication and collaboration. Being able to communicate fluently in English is very valuable. Language learning underpins the success of King s College schools overseas. Every student learns Spanish through practical, engaging Spanish language lessons, no matter what year group. Language learning will also be a major feature within King s Group Academies. Spanish is the most widely spoken language in the world after Mandarin. Every child will study Spanish to GCSE level, and the school will offer at least one other language to students interested in studying a second language. King s will offer all our students the opportunity to talk to Spanish native speakers, to develop their understanding of the language, culture, customs and way of life. There will also be the opportunity to work with the international King s Group schools through technology, field trips and student/ staff exchanges.

7 International links In a world where students need to understand the links between different cultures and countries around the world, King s Group Academies will capitalise on our international presence in order to enrich our curriculum. We envisage all our schools working together on specific projects in many different curriculum areas: comparing the Panamanian rainforest to British woodland, contrasting the influences and experiences of Spanish and British artists, exploring the extent and character of the British and Spanish empires. King s students will be truly global citizens. A British brand All King s College schools are proud to embed the British values, traditions and education. Uniform, academic staff, expectations, assemblies, house system, competitive sport, clubs, choirs, performances and tactile learning experiences will be familiar to many parents. We are known for the extensive enrichment programmes within our schools, which are designed and developed to take into account the needs and hopes of our students in each school. Our academies will share the same ethos as all King s Group schools, with teachers and students working together to ensure the best education for each school and its students.
