1 Key Language Topics for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 This booklet contains a sample of IDS support materials available for schools based on the NI Curriculum and CEFR benchmarks. Templates are from the IDS Toolkit for Diversity in the Primary School.

2 Topics included in this booklet The following samples of resources can be used to develop Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 newcomer pupils listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Templates used are from the Toolkit for Diversity in the Primary School. Colours This activity contains a colouring-in grid with the colour-names. Family members WAU: Interdependence This activity uses a grid from the Moving On Section and contains pictures and topic words to teach key language about family members. Water WAU: Science & Technology, Geography This activity uses a grid from the Moving On Section and contains pictures, topic words and phrases to teach key language about the uses of water. Washing hands PDMU This activity contains visuals and procedural language to teach the importance of hand washing. Pets PDMU This activity contains visuals and key language for pupils to discuss and describe their pets. Space WAU: Science & Technology This activity uses a grid from the Moving On Section that contains - pictures and topic words to teach key language about Space - pictures and words for pupils to sequence and make sentences. Similar resources can also be sent home to support home-school communication.
