2 Michael H. McCain Michael McCain is President and Chief Executive Officer of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., one of Canada s flagship food companies with a family of top consumer brands including Maple Leaf and Schneiders. His leadership values of transparency, integrity and bias for action define Maple Leaf Foods and have created a dynamic, ethical and forward-thinking culture. Michael has devoted his career to the food industry, starting at McCain Foods Limited in the late 70 s where he held a variety of roles culminating in his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of McCain Foods USA Inc. He joined Maple Leaf Foods in Since then, he has been instrumental in establishing Maple Leaf as a destination of choice for top talent and leading the company to overcome challenges that have tested the North American food industry, and the Canadian manufacturing sector in particular. This includes implementing a bold transformation strategy to shed costs, reduce currency exposure and establish Maple Leaf Foods as a world class food processor, positioned to compete with the best in the world. Michael is a director of McCain Capital Corporation, McCain Foods, Maple Leaf Foods, and the Royal Bank of Canada, and is also Chairman of Canada Bread. He is a member of the Richard Ivey School of Business Advisory Board and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, where he is a passionate advocate for transparency and action on mental health issues. Michael attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and received an Honours Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario.
3 Richard Lan Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Richard Lan will be Chief Customer Officer for Maple Leaf Foods Inc. until his retirement at the end of In this capacity, Mr. Lan will have senior responsibility for working with Maple Leaf s Sales leaders to establish the customeroriented foundation for the Company s business, building on the strong relationships that are already in place. Mr. Lan is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Food Group of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Bread Company. Appointed to his current role in 2006, Mr. Lan is responsible for leading the organizational alignment and establishing additional synergies between the meat and bakery businesses. Under his leadership, Mr. Lan and his team have helped establish the businesses as leaders in all core categories, including Fresh Pork and Poultry, all forms of Processed Meats, Canadian fresh bread, North American par-baked market, U.K. bagel and specialty manufacturer, and Canadian fresh pasta. Since joining Maple Leaf Foods Inc. in 1995, Mr. Lan has held a series of progressively senior positions, including President of Maple Leaf Bakery USA, President and Chief Operating Officer for Maple Leaf Foods Bakery Division, Chairman of Canada Bread, and Executive Vice-President for Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Lan served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of McCain Citrus, and President of Dell Products Corp. (frozen juice manufacturers) in the U.S. Mr. Lan is a director of Canada Bread Company Limited, a director of the Tim Horton Children s Foundation, and a past member of the Young Presidents Organization in both the Chicago and New Jersey chapters. Mr. Lan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Rhode Island.
4 Gary Maksymetz Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Gary Maksymetz will be Chief Operating Officer at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this role, Mr. Maksymetz will have primary responsibility for leading Maple Leaf s commercial activities in prepared meats, as well as the Company s fresh pork and poultry businesses. He will be actively engaged in the day-to day operational performance of the business and will work closely with the President and Chief Executive Officer on strategies to expand Maple Leaf s business within existing categories, into adjacent categories and into new markets. Mr. Maksymetz is currently President of Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, a business unit of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this role, Mr. Maksymetz is responsible for the company s market-leading fresh and value-added meats business, anchored by the flagship consumer brands Maple Leaf and Schneiders, as well as a family of strong sub-brands, including Maple Leaf Prime, Maple Leaf Natural Selections and Schneiders Country Naturals. Mr. Maksymetz brings to Maple Leaf Foods Inc. more than three decades of experience in the food industry having served in a number of key positions in the Company including Executive Vice President, Fresh Meats; Executive Vice President, Fresh Pork; Senior Vice President of Retail Sales for Canada and the U.S.; and Vice President, General Manager with the Consumer Foods U.S. operations. His industry experience also includes roles with Canada Packers, Swift/Gainers and Burns Foods, which were acquired by Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Mr. Maksymetz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science from the University of Manitoba.
5 Debbie Simpson Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Debbie Simpson will be Chief Financial Officer at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this capacity, Ms. Simpson will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Company s Finance organization, which includes financial reporting, controller and treasury functions, internal audit, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as facilities. Ms. Simpson joined Maple Leaf in 2007 and for the past seven years, she has held senior Finance roles at the Company and has been responsible for financial reporting and consolidation, compliance, debt financing, divestitures, treasury, capital spending and risk management. Currently, Ms. Simpson is Vice President, Business Services. Ms. Simpson has more than 20 years of knowledge and expertise in Canadian and international finance, accounting and treasury. Prior to joining Maple Leaf, she was Vice President and Treasurer for Vincor International Inc., which she joined in 2000 as Director of Corporate Finance after moving to Canada from Scotland. During her tenure at Vincor, she was responsible for financial reporting and investor relations, treasury and taxation, as well as working on mergers and acquisitions activities. Her previous corporate finance experience in Scotland included progressively senior roles with a number of companies including Highland Distillers Brands Ltd. and John Menzies PLC. Ms. Simpson began her career with Ernst & Young and obtained her professional designation from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in Ms. Simpson holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Accountancy as well as a Master of Science in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Stirling, Scotland.
6 Randall Huffman Upon the completion of the Bakery transaction, Dr. Randall Huffman will be Senior Vice President and Chief Food Safety Officer at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this expanded role, Dr. Huffman will be responsible for leading Maple Leaf Foods Inc. s prepared meats manufacturing, engineering, food safety, Six Sigma, and health and safety initiatives. Dr. Huffman joined Maple Leaf Foods as Chief Food Safety Officer in 2009, and later assumed leadership of Six Sigma and Quality. Dr. Huffman leads the Company s Food Safety Advisory Council, a team of external experts with the mandate to increase Maple Leaf s access to global knowledge and expertise in areas of food safety, microbiology and public education. Prior to joining Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Dr. Huffman served as President of the American Meat Institute (AMI) Foundation. Previous to his work with AMI, he held senior positions related to food safety, quality assurance and product development in the food industry. Dr. Huffman holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science degree in Meat and Animal Science from the University of Florida, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University. Dr. Huffman is an active member of the American Meat Science Association, the International Association of Food Protection and the Institute of Food Technologists.
7 Ben Brooks Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Ben Brooks will be Senior Vice President and General Manager, Poultry at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Mr. Brooks will be focused on expanding Maple Leaf s presence in the value-added chicken and turkey markets, and enhancing the company s manufacturing base. Mr. Brooks joined Maple Leaf Foods in 2004, and was responsible for leading the Pork Network Transformation program from planning through to implementation. In April 2009, he joined the Fresh Poultry team as Vice President, Business Optimization, where he established the optimal organization and processes to drive profitability across the Fresh Poultry value chain. During this period he was also the business lead for the flagship SAP implementation within the Maple Leaf Consumer Foods function. In March 2011, Mr. Brooks was appointed Vice President, Complexity Management, where he was responsible for leading the Commercial Transformation teams and implementing Project Simplify, a strategic initiative focused on reducing the complexity of product formulations and brands, both at market level and plant level. In January 2013, Mr. Brooks assumed the role of Vice President and General Manager, Poultry. Prior to joining Maple Leaf, Mr. Brooks spent 12 years in the automotive industry working for the Ford Motor Company. Mr. Brooks holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Economics from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Windsor.
8 Rocco Cappuccitti Rocco Cappuccitti is Senior Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this role, Mr. Cappuccitti s responsibilities include corporate secretarial, Board of Directors affairs, legal affairs, taxation, insurance, real estate and mergers and acquisitions transactions. Mr. Cappuccitti joined Maple Leaf Mills Limited in 1988 as Manager of Taxation. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed to the position of Corporate Secretary. In 1990, following the creation of Maple Leaf Foods, Mr. Cappuccitti was appointed to the position of Vice President and Corporate Secretary. Previously, Mr. Cappuccitti spent seven years with Arthur Andersen & Co. in the firm s Toronto and Calgary offices, working primarily in the tax group. Mr. Cappuccitti holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Accountant. He is also a member of a number of industry associations, including the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Tax Executives Institute.
9 Chris Compton Chris Compton is Senior Vice President, Foodservice Sales and Marketing for the Consumer Foods division of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. He is responsible for leading the growth of the Company s Foodservice business. Mr. Compton joined Maple Leaf Foods with the acquisition of Schneiders in 2003, where he has since led the expansion of Foodservice sales in Maple Leaf s prepared meats business. Mr. Compton began his Foodservice career with the FG Bradley Company in 1983 and he has over 30 years experience in roles of increasing responsibility, specifically in the area of foodservice. During his time at Schneiders he also had the sales responsibility for retail private label business in Canada. He is an active member in a number of industry organizations such as GS1 Canada, Woman's Foodservice Forum and Canadian Food Retailers Association (CFRA), and he and his organization were recently recognized as 2013 Supplier of the Year by the Canadian Foodservice and Hospitality Association. Mr. Compton is a graduate of Humber College.
10 Curtis Frank Upon the completion of the Bakery transaction, Curtis Frank will be Senior Vice President, Retail Sales at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Mr. Frank will be responsible for leading the company s crossfunctional retail selling and customer business development efforts. Currently, Mr. Frank is VP & GM, Loblaw Customer Business Team, where he is responsible for leading a cross-functional team accountable for the execution of the Company s growth strategy with Maple Leaf s largest retail customer. His responsibilities include the development of both the Company s branded and private label businesses. Mr. Frank has more than 14 years of experience with Maple Leaf Foods in sales roles of increasing responsibility that reflect his talent and passion for sales, demonstrated leadership skills, ability to continuously add value for customers, and excellence in joint business planning. Mr. Frank holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Regina.
11 Adam Grogan Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Adam Grogan will be Senior Vice President, Marketing and Innovation at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Grogan will be responsible for leading the growth of Maple Leaf s retail fresh and prepared meats business in the areas of marketing, innovation and product development, and category management. In addition, he will oversee Marketing Strategy, Consumer Affairs, Digital Media, Packaging, Packaging Graphics and the Company s ThinkFOOD! Innovation Centre. Mr. Grogan has more than 16 years of experience with Maple Leaf Foods in areas such as supply chain management, category management, brand marketing and customer business development. Currently, he is the Vice President and General Manager, Retail Sales for Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, where he is responsible for leading the Company s cross-functional retail selling and customer business development efforts in Canada and the United States for Maple Leaf s portfolio of retail branded and private label products. In this capacity, he leads the Customer Business Teams and oversees the joint business planning process, which has resulted in the development of strong retail customer relationships and the expansion of the Company s fresh pork, poultry and prepared meats businesses. Mr. Grogan holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Masters of Business Administration from York s Schulich School of Business. In 2013, he won the Generation Next Award, which recognizes leaders under the age of 40, for Outstanding Innovation and Contribution to the Canadian Grocery Industry.
12 Ian Henry Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Ian Henry will be Senior Vice President, People at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Henry will be responsible for leading the Company s leadership development, people administration, labour relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, and diversity and inclusion programs. Mr. Henry joined Maple Leaf in 2002 as Vice President, Labour Relations where he was responsible for leading the Company s labour relations efforts for both the bakery and protein lines of business. His role expanded in January 2011 to include Human Resources responsibility for Maple Leaf Foods Home Office organization. Prior to joining Maple Leaf, Mr. Henry held a variety of increasingly senior industrial and labour relations roles with recognized leaders in the grocery, publishing and broadcasting sectors. Mr. Henry holds a Bachelor of Administrative and Commercial Studies from University of Western Ontario and an Honours Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
13 Bill Kaldis Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Bill Kaldis will be Senior Vice President, Supply Chain and Information Solutions at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Kaldis will be responsible for leading the Company s supply chain management and information solutions programs and strategies. Mr. Kaldis is currently Senior Vice President, Logistics and Purchasing at Maple Leaf, where he is responsible for delivering excellence across all aspects of the Company s logistics functions and delivering on customer expectations in a cost-effective manner. He has more than 20 years of senior leadership experience in supply chain management, manufacturing and the strategic application of technology, such as business process systems in an SAP environment, in both Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Mr. Kaldis held a series of senior leadership roles in the areas of supply chain, manufacturing and operations strategy with respected industry leaders, such as KIK Custom Products and Kraft Foods. Mr. Kaldis holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Concordia University.
14 Lynda Kuhn Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, Lynda Kuhn will be Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this capacity, Ms. Kuhn will lead the development of a strong social responsibility program that will be embedded in the Company s culture and business, including environmental sustainability, animal welfare, public affairs and community outreach. She will also continue to lead Maple Leaf s Communications function. Prior to this, Ms. Kuhn was Senior Vice President, Communications for Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this role, Ms. Kuhn had executive responsibility for the Company s corporate, investor and employee communications, philanthropy and public relations functions. Ms. Kuhn joined Maple Leaf Foods Inc. in 2002 as Vice President of Investor and Public Relations. Previously, she served as Senior Vice President, Public Affairs at Philips Services Corporation, where she had responsibility for all aspects of corporate and employee communications, investor relations, marketing communications, change management and crisis communications. Ms. Kuhn also spent five years as the Executive Director of the Richmond County Industrial Commission in Nova Scotia and seven years working with a Miq Maq native community in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. In these roles, Ms. Kuhn was extensively involved in community-based economic development, industrial promotion, and government relations, as well as developing and implementing social, cultural and educational programs. Ms. Kuhn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University and a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology from McGill University.
15 Rory McAlpine Rory McAlpine is Senior Vice President, Government and Industry Relations with Maple Leaf Foods Inc. In this role, Mr. McAlpine has overall responsibility for working with government and industry partners on matters of public policy, programs, regulation and trade. Upon completion of the Bakery transaction, he will also lead the Company s regulatory affairs and food science initiatives. Mr. McAlpine brings to Maple Leaf Foods a wealth of experience gained during more than 25 years of working in government, trade and agribusiness. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. McAlpine served as Deputy Minister of the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries from 2002 to He also obtained significant experience with the Federal Government as Executive Director and Director General, International Trade Policy Directorate; Director Grains and Oilseeds Division; and Deputy Director Multilateral Trade with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Mr. McAlpine also held the position of Executive Director of the National Farm Products Council and was a Trade Commissioner with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, with postings in Kuwait, Bangkok, Brussels, Edmonton and Ottawa. Mr. McAlpine serves on a number of boards, associations and industry-government committees, including the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Food Innovators cluster. He is on the advisory board for the Program on Agri-Food Innovation and Regulation, Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, the national Agri Sub-Committee on Food Safety and the National Pork Value Chain Roundtable. Mr. McAlpine holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
16 Iain Stewart Iain Stewart is Senior Vice President and General Manager, Fresh Pork at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Mr. Stewart is focused on leading the operations and growth of Maple Leaf s value-added domestic and international pork business. Mr. Stewart s career in the food industry spans more than 25 years. He joined Maple Leaf Consumer Foods in 1997 as a Pricing Manager, and in 1998, he was promoted to Director of Finance, Sales & Marketing. In 2000, Mr. Stewart became Director of Financial Analysis and he was promoted to Vice President, Foodservice in In 2005, Mr. Stewart was appointed Vice President, Six Sigma and in 2008, he assumed the role of Senior Vice President, Food Safety & Transformation. In 2010, Mr. Stewart was appointed to Senior Vice President, Fresh Meats, where he led both the Pork & Poultry Operations, a position he held prior to assuming his current role. Prior to joining Maple Leaf, Mr. Stewart worked for Swift/Gainers where he progressed through a series of increasingly responsible roles in the areas of Distribution, Sales and Office Management.
17 Richard Young Rick Young is Senior Vice President, Transformation at Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Mr. Young is responsible for leading major prepared meats transformation initiatives, including plant network optimization, SAP implementation and the streamlining of processes and products to help support Maple Leaf s financial goals and competitive advantage. Mr. Young s career with Maple Leaf Foods spans more than three decades, during which he has served in a number of progressively senior roles, including President, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, President of Shur-Gain, Vice-President, Business Development for Maple Leaf Meats, and Director of Sales & Marketing for Maple Leaf Prepared Meats. He began his career with the Maple Leaf Foods Inc. family of companies as an Assistant Product Manager with Canada Packers. Mr. Young holds a Marketing degree from Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology. He obtained certification in Crosby s Quality Management System and also completed the Executive Program (Supply Chain) at Stanford University in 1998.
