After School Club & Breakfast Club Jesse Gray Play Services is an integrated part of Jesse Gray School, under the umbrella of the Extended Services Provision. It is overseen by a Management Team made up of school and After School Club staff, parent representatives and school Governors. We are a non-profit making facility. Our Aim We aim to always provide you with the very best care for your child and an excellent service for parents and carers. We offer the children a safe, caring and stimulating environment with a wide range of activities available each session.

What happens at the Breakfast Club Breakfast will be a very social time where the children will all sit together with the staff team and enjoy breakfast. There will be a variety of breakfast choice and we aim to tailor our choices to the children that we have attending. Once breakfast has finished being served at 8.15pm there will be a variety of things available for the children to do on a free choice basis. This may include organised activities such as model making and painting and also a quiet area. Additionally the children can choose any of our games to play, with the support from the staff team. In nicer weather and when time allows we shall have the opportunity to play outside on the patio area. What happens at the After School Club There will always be plenty for your child to do. Each evening there is an organised creative activity, both for the younger children, and for the older ones. A list of the weeks planned activities can be found on the planning notice board near to the office. We have a range of games and toys which will vary each day, so no matter how many days your child is with us, there will always be something different for them to do. We have a play station and a Wii, which is available on a rota, so every child can have a go if they want to. We have board games, imaginative play, construction, a quiet area, a junk table, dressing up and much more. Sports coaches come in twice a week. Small clubs include cookery, jewellery making, dance, arts etc. We have a large outdoor area, which is used every day unless the weather is too bad, where there is a large range of equipment. This includes hoops, rackets, football, cricket, table tennis, construction, musical instruments, large connect 4, draughts and hopscotch to name but a few! All the children who attend the Club are encouraged to be independent and to access the Club freely. We operate a free flow system meaning the children can choose to do as much or as little as they wish each evening and are able to choose exactly what they want to do.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) For all children up to the age a six we offer the full Early Years Foundation Stage structure. We work very closely with the school staff to ensure that the care your child receives is a smooth transition within the EYFS from topic planning and assessments to collection of the children each evening. From the moment your child arrives with us we will be providing them with a full range of opportunities that will develop their learning outcomes. We do this by using observations that we have taken of the children and providing activities and play that will steer them towards their next early learning goal. Rest assured however that all of this is done through fun and play which is very important to us. Our evenings are nothing like the school day and no child is ever made to sit and contribute to something or meet targets. Our thorough planning ensures that they never actually know they are learning through their play and whilst having so much fun! Staffing We currently have a staffing team of 15 permanent staff and 1 supply staff. All of these staff are very experienced in working with children and the majority of them hold a qualification in either Playwork or Childcare. The Play Services Manager holds a level 6 qualification in Management and Leadership in Playwork and all senior staff are qualified to at least NVQ Level 3. The key people to contact regarding our services are Kelly Harris-Whittle, Play Services Manager and Fiona Thomas Assistant Play Services Manager. For full details of our current staff team, the days they work and their qualification please see the attachment at the end of this booklet. The After School Club uses two rooms for the children, one for the younger ones and one for the older ones. Each of these rooms is run and managed by a senior member of the staffing team. Breakfast Club uses both rooms; breakfast in the dining room and games/play in the sandwich bar. All staff take an active part in their own development and frequently attend courses on paediatric first aid, food hygiene, completing observations, safeguarding children, behaviour management, working with parents and carers and many more.

We work on a ratio of 1 staff member to every 8 children under the age of eight. You will find photographs of all our staff members on our notice board along with their job titles. In addition, all staff wear name badges that include their photographs. Fees and Charges All fees are payable in advance by cash, cheque or bank transfer. Details for childcare voucher users are shown below. You will receive an invoice detailing your fees at the beginning of each school year with payment details. All fees are subject to an annual review in June. As a registered facility you may be eligible for tax credits. Please let us know if you would like any help in this matter. ASC BC 1 st child cost per session Subsequent children per session Late collection per child up to 5.59pm x Late collection per child after 6pm x Telephone call to locate child 50p x Late payment 1 st letter reminder Late payment 2 nd letter reminder Childcare vouchers We accept payment of your child s fees using childcare vouchers and are registered with many companies. If you wish to pay your fees using this method you must let us know in advance as we have additional paperwork for you to complete and a variation on our terms and conditions. Contact us for a full list of companies. Please do not pay into a CCV account until we have confirmed our registration with them. Session times The Breakfast Club operates from 7.45am until 8.45am, Monday to Friday, term time only. The After School Club operates from 3.15pm until 5.45pm, Monday to Friday, term time only. This is the time we are registered to provide care for children and also the time that our insurance is valid until. Therefore it is imperative that you have collected your child and be off the premises by 5.45pm at the very latest. We operate a very strict fine system if you are late collecting your child.

Session routine Breakfast Club When children arrive they should be signed into the Club by a parent/carer. We expect all children to have breakfast as soon as they arrive and parents will be informed if they refuse. After this it s free play and children can choose to do as much or as little as they wish. Just before the start of the school day children in classes 1 to 8 are taken onto the playground and once the whistle has gone they line up with their class. Children in classes 9 16 are taken through the school to their classes and are handed over to their class teacher. After School Club At the start of each session the younger children are collected from their classrooms and the older children make their way to us. At this time we have registration and a small snack. Once this has ended we offer a free flow play system. Activities are already prepared and out for your child to access but they are free to come and go as they choose. We place no emphasis on making the children participate in anything but instead encourage them to try new things. Most importantly we want your children to have fun in what they are doing. Snacks After School Club We do not have the catering facilities to offer tea for the children but we do provide a small snack each evening. Each child has one sandwich with a range of fillings and a piece of fruit or yoghurt. We also have fresh drinking water available for the whole of the session. You are more than welcome to send in alterative food for your child should you so wish. Dietary requirements All snacks that we provide can be varied to meet any child s dietary requirements including nut free diets and lactose free diets. Please ensure this is discussed fully before your child starts at the After School Club or the Breakfast Club. Medication Medication will only be administered in extreme circumstances. In this instance it must be prescribed by the child s GP with full details on how to administer, possible

side effects and include your child s name and the date. Prior to administration a fully completed medication form must be given to a senior member of staff who will discuss the requirements. Special Needs We welcome all children to the Club as long as we feel confident that we can provide a quality experience, which is effective in meeting individual needs. Each application for admission will be dealt with on an individual basis and we will work with the parents and carers to ensure we meet staffing requirements, sessions, suitably qualified staff and also to secure additional funding should this be required. Collection from classes After School Club All children in school classes 9 16 are collected directly from their classrooms. All older children are expected to make their way to the After School Club. Every class teacher throughout the school has a list detailing which children from their class attend the After School Club on which evening. This ensures that all parties understand where the children should be at the end of the day. Keyworkers When your child is accepted to the Breakfast Club and/or After School Club, they are assigned a keyworker. This staff member will be the person who takes registration for your child each session they attend and is also the one to go to initially if you wish to discuss something regarding your child. Your Childs keyworker will always be available on the days your child attends the Club. Ofsted regulator As a Club we are inspected by Ofsted alongside the school s Ofsted inspection to ensure that we are meeting the statutory standards that have been set to provide childcare. These inspections usually take place at least every three years. A copy of the school s Ofsted inspection can be found via the school s website, or you can request a hard copy from us.

Links with others We work very closely with the school in a number of ways from our topic planning to day to day matters. We also work with a number of outside agencies including Nottinghamshire County Council, the Extended Services Provision and the Out of School Service. Contact Information The Play Services Manager is Mrs Kelly Harris-Whittle. Address: Jesse Gray Play Services Musters Road West Bridgford Nottingham NG2 7DD Telephone: Please use this number for any general queries you have. Outside of these hours there is an answer phone service Please use this number if you wish to speak to the manager directly in an emergency or urgent situation.

How to apply for a place Included in this pack is a registration form and contract. These must be completed in full and sent back to Play Services. We often have a waiting list and so if there are currently no sessions available or you require a place at a future date you will be placed on the waiting list and contacted once a place becomes available. You are of course very welcome to visit the Club at any time to have a look around and see what we do. No appointment is necessary. Also if you have any questions or queries please feel free to give us a call on our landline number. Key policies and procedures On the next few pages you will find full copies of the policies we believe you should be made aware of before you apply for a place at our Club. We do have a full range of policies covering every aspect of the Club and you are more than welcome to request a copy of any or all of them. Alternatively we have a condensed policy booklet which outlines the basics of all of our policies which you can also request a copy of from us. During your child s time with us, and to meet our legal obligations for the protection of children, there could be occasions where we may speak to you about sensitive or safeguarding children information. Please do not be offended if this does take place. And finally... Thank you for showing an interest in our Club. We look forward to welcoming you in the future.
