INTRODUCTION Personal leadership and management development is an action through which the productivity and performance of the employees can be enhanced and they can be made more devoted to the workplace. Through such actions organization can improve the productivity of the workers by a huge margin (Appelo, 2010). This report discusses about the impact of organizational objectives, culture and values on the leadership and management and skills required to support the success of organizational objectives. Successful organizations require effective management, strong leadership and better client care through quality service. An attempt can be made through which the employees can lead in a much positive manner and they can be select the right way of development. The degree of personal development of management and leadership require training and support to maximize their effectiveness. Task 1 Analyze the range of organizational objectives, culture and values Lo 1.1 The impact of organizational objectives, culture and values on management and leadership Management and leadership are the activities which are extremely important for an organization. With the help of such actions employees can be motivated to give their best outcome and remain dedicated to the company (Bittner and Spence, 2006). Both are similar from one another, as there is a very few functions that separates them. Put a light on management, it is a function through which one can keep an eye on the daily routine of the organization and it is also used to complete the tasks with the help of group members in an effective and efficient manner while on the other leadership is a way through which the individuals can be inspired and motivated to give their best performance (Cacioppe, 2008). Management and leadership have a very significant impact on workplace and behavior of the team members. They are affected by organizational goals and objectives, values and cultures. This means for management of an organization to make these two successful and be able to get the positive results (Elo and et.al, 2014). It is very important for any organization to determine the targets in such a way that management and leadership are not adversely affected the functions. Organizational objectives, culture and values to a great extent exercise their influence on management and leadership activities. This can be understood through a fact that the type of 1
target that higher authorities will decide leadership styles and it has to be shaped according to the working condition (Holden, 2014). It is very important to make sure that such technique are used in an effective manner, otherwise results can affect the business operations negatively. Also the organizational objectives, culture and values also play a key role in management and leadership. The type of culture and structure adopted by the company along with values will decide how managers and leaders perform and how they will make the workforce to execute different duties through which aims and targets can be achieved with ease and comfort (Kur and Bunning, 2006). Lo 1.2 Management and leadership skills required to support organizational objectives Management and leadership play a very important role in deciding the employee s roles and duties. They are very vital because they frame and manage the whole activity or functions of an organization. Management and leadership skills are required to achieve organization goals and objectives (Rausch, 2005). To sustain in the competitive market it is very essential to ensure that the company have such managers and leaders who can motivate and inspire their employees to give their best performance and thus contribute in achievement of organizational goals and objectives. There are so many different skills and abilities that the managers and leaders of today need to have, as it is a way through which they can make the employees to improve the productivity of the company as well as their performance (Strange, 2012). One of the most important and essential skill require for managers and leaders is communication. It is a well known fact that it is not only important, but also one of the only effective ways through which it can be make sure that information is shared at the workplace. Communication with management and employees is a very effective way through which individual can give their best outcome throughout and thus also contribute in accomplishment of an organizational goals and objectives (Robson and John, 2009). Without good communication skills no assigned duty can be carried out, and thus aims of the company cannot be achieved with efficiency and effectiveness. Other than this skill, managers and leaders also required to inspire and motivate the employees on a regular basis because that it is a way through which their performance and productivity can be enhanced along with their loyalty and commitment to the company (Vloeberghs and Berghman, 2003). In this modern world, leadership and management is a very important part because it is a way through which the productivity and performance of an organization can be improved. 2
Task 2 Personal assessment of skills and development plan Lo 2.1 Personal leadership and management skills Management and leadership are two basic factors that must be considered by an organization to achieve its goals and objectives efficiently. It is the only way through which employees can be motivated to give their best performance and increase the productivity (Austin, 2002). Significance of management and leadership can be better understood through statement that they are the only way through which the employees can perform well and the commitment of employees can be ensured. As discussed above, without management and leadership, organization will not be able to execute its plans and strategies with great efficiency and effectiveness and thus its existence can be put into danger (Agha, 2001). According to me there are so many different skills and abilities that managers and leaders requires in this modern business world. The most common and important skills is communication. Managers and leaders are able to interact with internal and external environment. For most of the companies it is the only way through which they can be sure that information of the aims and objectives will be offered to employees and their problems or issues will be known to higher authorities (Elegbe, 2012). As we all known that communication is the key for organizational success. Other than this skill, managers and leaders also required to motivate the employees regularly, so that they give their best shot and help to increase the overall performance of an organization. There are so many different areas that I need to develop in so that I can give an excellent performance and also able to contribute in a positive manner to company aims and targets. For effective leadership, it is important to manage pressure and stress along with time management (Marc, 2012). With the help of all such skills, I am able to handle stress and remaining calm and can give the best performance and make sure that it is as per the company s quality standards. With effective time management skills I can complete the assigned task in a positive manner in the given time. Lo 2.2 Opportunities for the development of own leadership and management skills There are many opportunities present through which I can try to improve my skills and can enhance management and leadership abilities (Bryman, 2014). It is an important factor for employees to hold on to each and every opportunity that come in their way throughout their 3
employment. With the help of such opportunities they can increase the work efficiency. Many organization, especially modern have appreciate this fact and make sure that employees give their best performance and others remains loyal to it, they require to provided with such opportunities through which they can grow. If such things cannot work accordingly, then the only thing guarantees that they will not be able to contribute in a positive way to organization goals and objectives (Klagge, 2006). There are so many opportunities which I found while working for an organization. It is very important for me to concentrate on to them, as they will be the only basis through which I can enhance my efficiency and performance which can lead to complete the organizational goals and objectives. There are different opportunities for me and some of them are discussed below: Seminars and workshops: I attain many seminars and workshops because they are the most effective source through which I can learn innovative and new thing which are important in the market. It is important for me to attend such workshops and seminars I can interact in a positive way with other experts in an organization along with professionals of other sector. Training and development sessions: I can learn a lot of new things which I never came through or I cannot use them ever by taking part in many training and development sessions. These are the another source which can help me a lot, as through joining such sessions I will be able to enhance my performance and get to know about the successful and efficient sources through which I can carry out the work assigned to me in a very effective way. Lo 2.3 Prepare a personal development plan My evaluation Management & While managing and Leadership leading the team I am Skills (e.g. change average and get 6/10 focus, strategic from higher authority. influence and impact) Personal effectiveness I able to influence (e.g. communication, people by good Feedback received from others Positive feedback from executives. Positive feedback from my colleagues. Activity undertake to improve such skills Focus on strengths, developing clear vision and communicate with everyone. Join coaching classes and attain seminars and 4
connection and communication skills. workshop to improve networking, influencing communication. skills, initiative, problem solving and decision making, service delivery, time management) Business Skills Try to learn new skills Negative feedback from Take part in training (e.g. planning and and able to solve friends. Require more programs through which organizing resources, problems. improvement. knowledge and skills Finance for non-finance Can be improved. professionals, IT skills, managing budgets, managing projects) Task 3 Implement the personal development plan Lo 3.1 Manage personal development of leadership and management skills Personal development plans are very important because they are the sources through which people can learn about the areas that need to be enhanced, so that productivity and performance can be improved (Schmidt-Wilk, 2013). It is also very important for an organization that they help their staff in preparation of such plans. By implementing such plans into the real life they can make a considerable contribution to accomplishment of tasks given to them. After preparing the personal development plan, I will need to implement. It is very important because it helps to develop new skills and enhance the knowledge which is required to achieve the goals (Head and Sorensen, 2006). The plan that I have designed states that for management and leadership skills I will need to focus on strengths, communicate with everyone and developing clear vision. If I develop all such skills I can implement the plan in positive manner and work effectively. For personal effectiveness skills I get positive feedback from my colleagues. But to enhance this skill I will need to start attending the various workshops, training sessions and seminars on communication skills. Taking part in all such programs may prove to be a very useful and effective way through which I can improve this ability. Such sessions are very time 5
consuming but are very much useful as well. Through them I am able to develop this talent and also build a good network. It also helps me and motivates to interact with different people. These kinds of programs are very important in ensuring that an individual is able to develop his interactive skills (McDonald, 2010). Other than that, I will also have to work hard to develop my business skills. This is a skill which is extremely important in this modern world. I get negative feedback from friends and it requires more improvement. For enhancing my business skills I join training programs which are organized by the company. In such training programs I came to know how to use different skills in different areas. Task 4 Evaluation of personal development plans Lo 4.1 Review personal development plan My main aim was to develop leadership, management, communication and business skills to a great extent with the help of personal development plan. The plan that I had designed above helped in making sure that the original objective or reason behind constructing the plan is achieved. Through this plan I get idea that where I am lacking behind in management and leadership skills. To improve such skills I have to develop clear vision, focus on strengths and interact with everyone. By using this plan I came to know that I will have to take part in different workshops and seminars to improve communication skills. Such sessions are the only source through which I can try to improvement in it. The main aim behind developing this plan is to improve my performance and working in such a manner that I can add on in a positive manner to organization goals and objectives. My purpose behind this has been very clear that I wanted to build up skills in a way that I can implement it and get positive outcome. By implementing the plan, I was able to develop my management and leadership skills and organize many functions and lead my team from the front. My communication skills also improve by a great margin. Through all such capabilities I was able to develop my performance, and thus be able to make sure that aims and objectives are achieved with ease and comfort. During the course of this plan, I could see many changes in me, as I started to feel much more confident while interacting with people and presenting them with my opinions and thoughts. Through this plan I have been able to accomplish my main aim of being able to communicate 6
with people easily and openly. The personal development plan designed above has been very helpful in developing my skills. Lo 4.2 Effectiveness of personal development Personal development plans are very essential because they are the sources through which an individual can learn about the areas that need to be enhanced, so that performance and productivity can be improved (Wheelwright, 2007). Organization uses this plan to help their employees through which they can develop new skills. Management and leadership skills require for planning and organizing. I organize many functions during my tenure in the company and get positive feedback from my executives. These skills are very necessary for every individual and with the help of different abilities I can work in such a way through which better performance can be ensured. Management skills require for managing people. I get positive response from my team members through which I can guide them with flexibility and increase the overall performance of my team. It is very important for me to develop leadership skills. With the help of this skill I can influence people and motivate them towards achieving the goals. Effective leadership require good communication, time management, etc. I discuss and share my ideas or opinions with my team and listen to them. By exercising such actions I get positive feedback from my team member. For improving such skill I will join many coaching classes and take part in seminars and workshop through which I can improve my communication skills. With the help of this skill I can lead my team from the front. For leadership it is also require motivating and inspiring other because it is one of the most important tool to develop and through which one can complete the aims and targets easily (Tobin and Pettingell, 2008). With the help of this skill I get more effective results because through I can increase the interest in the individual mind regarding their work and motivating them. By performing such activities they can give their best performance to increase the overall productivity of the organization. Lo 4.3 Areas for further development in personal development plan The personal development plan which was developed above has been very helpful to me in developing many skills such as leadership and management skills, communication skills and business skills (Appelo, 2010). There are so many other skills which require improvement. Personal development plan are very essential in ensuring that my skills and abilities are up to 7
date. The goals and objectives of the organization can be attained not only through this skills but other than that there are so many other skills where I need to work effectively. The other areas where I need to improve include stress and time management. In this modern era, time management is very essential and performing work without any kind of stress, tension and pressure (Bittner and Spence, 2006). I will need to learn how the time is managed properly, because my performance is dependent this to a great extent. For proper time management I will have to keep a track of each and every activity. With the help of time management skill I will learn about how to schedule time. And to manage pressure, stress and tension I will take some rest and brakes during working hours. Most of the people are suffer from stress. To overcome with such this problem I take several steps such as do one thing at a time, get creative, simplify my schedule and communicate with more and more people. With the help of all this things I can improve and release all my stress and work in an efficient manner. CONCLUSION Management and leadership signify two completely diverse business concepts. Personal development is an ongoing process which helps individual to evaluate their qualities and skills. This report discussed about the impact of organizational objectives, values and culture on the leadership and management and skills required to support organizational objectives. Both this activities are very important for an organization. Leadership is a way through which the individuals can be motivated and inspired to give their best shot. Whereas management is a function through which one can keep a track on the day to day activity of an organization. 8
