An ideal site for all ages offering both traditional Scouting opportunities combined with more modern activities and safety requirements Glenny Wood, the Gordano District campsite, is set in 23 acres of woodlands. This undulating site is ideally suited to traditional Scout camping, with many good camping plateaus. Backwoods events and wide games are ideal at Glenny Wood. In addition there are activities and facilities available for everyone to use as the site now boasts a Confidence course, Wetlands area, games equipment and a good range of Pioneering equipment. Glenny Wood is an excellent base for Bristol, Weston Super Mare and area plus the Mendips, which offer a wealth of walking opportunities. The site is open all year round. Glenny Wood therefore is an ideal site for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network members to come along and enjoy their Scouting

2 Camping - For those wishing to camp there are plenty of Plateau areas for you to use. The Plateaus will hold between 1-4 patrol tents and have space for kitchen areas and cooking. Altar Fires only are allowed on site, and are supplied for this. The exception to this is a campfire in the Campfire circle and the stone fire area on Willow. The lodge - We have our newly refurbished lodge, which is great for Beaver Scout Sleepovers, Pack Holidays, and other residential experiences needing indoor accommodation. The building is suitable for sleeping up to 30, with two side rooms for leader/young leader accommodation. Please note that bunk beds are not provided. Normal services are available and in the refitted kitchen there is a cooker, fridge etc. Please bring your own cooking utensils, pots & pans plus crockery and cutlery. There is a freezer in the campers area at the front of the toilet block. The campers and games store this is in the area in front of the toilet block. In this store area there is a fridge and freezer for all site users to access. We also keep in here games which you are welcome to use and are free of charge. Please treat this facility and equipment with respect and care. Please keep this area tidy and return all kit used to the room storing away neatly. Pioneering stores (Green shed and pole store) We hold a large range of pioneering equipment and project ideas. To use the pioneering equipment please book with the secretary and you will be given the code to access the store. The pole store key is held in the green rope store. The equipment is sufficient for most large pioneering projects. We have plastic (synthetic) and natural fibre ropes and long ropes (Monkey Bridge etc..). Building your own Pioneering activities, including Aerial Runways. These must comply with the Scout Association s Rules and Regulations. Ropes attached to trees can cause bark damage. Please ensure all points of attachment are suitably protected and ensure that all ropes and swings are removed completely at the end of your stay. There are Pioneering poles and ropes available to use on site. Day / Evening visits - Glenny Wood is ideal for a section meeting night, for practicing traditional Scout craft activities, wide games, bivvy building and much more; just let the imagination go wild. Leaders are responsible for the young people on these activities, have undertaken risk assessments and comply with Scout Association rules. 4 Guidelines for using Glenny Wood. THE RULES OF GLENNY WOOD ARE THE SCOUT LAWS. Below therefore are a few simple guidelines so everyone can enjoy their time at Glenny Wood and the site is treated with respect, as all Scouts should do. No dogs on site please. Except for Guide dogs and Police dogs Good neighbourliness. When entering or leaving the site, please could all visitors keep noise to a minimum and drive slowly 10 mph maximum and carefully, watching out for Children and animals, when going past the adjoining house and the road leading to the village. Please remind your parents of this who drop off their children, as we have received complaints of parents speeding out of the site. There is no parking from just above the Motorway bridge to the camp site. Please always issue the statement below to parents / adults driving to and from Glenny Wood:- Parents please drive SLOWLY- max 10mph on the road to Glenny Wood from the motorway bridge and into the site s Car Park. If the road is busy please park near to the Motorway bridge and walk up, being careful not to block any entrances or park on the privately owned verges. Please comply to the no parking and speed restriction signs Vehicles. You may use the access track around the site to take kit nearer to your camping area, but NO vehicles are to go off this track. All vehicles are then to be parked in the car park unless otherwise agreed. Wildlife. Please no not damage or cause disturbance to wildlife. Camping areas and Altar Fires. Please camp only in open camping plateaus. Please restrict fires to the altar fires provided around the site. Any fallen timber can be collected and burnt. Any wood not burnt please return to the wood pile. It is important to ensure that no stones or large pieces of wood are left on the camping area, as these become hidden and cause damage to equipment when the area is maintained. Most importantly please ensure all fires are out when you leave the site and any rubbish not burnt is taken away with you (i.e. Tin foil). Please return Alter fires to the concrete area opposite the toilets before leaving. Central woodpile. Please do not remove or use more than you need. Return unused wood to the woodpile. Bivouacs. These should only be constructed in the wooded area above the main track or up on the new land at the far end of the site, not on the formal camping areas. Please dismantle after use, so that the area is quickly returned to normal and is of use to others. Barbeque on the patio. A BBQ area is available on the patio outside the lodge. Charcoal or wood can be used. Please return any wood not burnt to the wood pile. Please return Altar Fires to the concrete area opposite the toilets. Rubbish. We do not have a refuse collection therefore; please take all your rubbish home with you. You are encouraged to burn your rubbish in an Altar Fire, to make this less of a problem. However, you must ensure all the rubbish is burnt, that all fires are out by the time you leave, and that you take away any burnt tins etc. Please do not leave food waste lying around. We expect you to have completed a litter sweep of the areas you have used before departure, as with good Scouting practice. Toilet Block. Please could all site users ensure that the toilet block is kept clean. Mops and buckets are provided; please use them when necessary to ensure conditions are as you would wish to find them. Showers We have 4 showers around the back of the toilet block. These are available for you to use for no additional charge. Please ensure they are kept clean and tidy condition. Confidence Course including Monkey Bridge. This must be a leader supervised activity and Leaders are responsible for the safety of the young people whilst using this area. It is ideal for an individual challenge or team working. Safety gear (helmets) can be obtained on site Wetlands Area. Please ensure this area is leader supervised when in use, the area is not damaged and the plants and other wildlife are treated with respect and nothing is pulled out of the ground or thrown into the water. Night exercises If you are planning a night exercise, which stretches beyond Glenny Wood, please let the booking secretary know, so we can inform the local people. A number of properties have security systems and dogs, and to help with good neighbourliness and your safety we will let them know what s going on. Evening Shelter During the summer months we will have a Wet Weather Shelter area near the loos where you can store your kit. There will be light and power in this area and you will be able to access this free of charge.

5 Fireworks, Firearms, Archery, Shooting. These activities may not take place on site without prior permission. Site Usage It is likely that there will be other sections using Glenny Wood during your stay. You are encouraged to mix, enjoy the fellowship of Scouting and share out the general cleaning / site tidying jobs during your stay. Site Allocation To help with the overall site management and to avoid over camping some areas you will be allocated a site / area by the booking secretary prior to your stay Payment a 25% non returnable deposit is be sent to the booking Secretary with this form. Upon receipt of the deposit your booking will be confirmed. Once you have stayed at Glenny Wood you will be asked to confirm your numbers using the site, young people and adults and you will be bill for the remaining amount outstanding. Payment to be made within 14 days of invoice date please. Late payments will incur a 10% surcharge. Site Fees The following are the charges for using Glenny Wood.
