2 About The Championship FORMAT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP 156 competitors will play 36 holes of stroke play on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 July. The leading 70 players and ties will play a further 36 holes on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July. The Champion will be the player with the lowest 72 hole aggregate. In the event of a tie, the players will play a four hole play-off. The Champion will be the player with the lowest four hole aggregate. If there is still a tie, sudden death will be played over the 18th until a winner emerges. The presentation ceremony will be held immediately after the conclusion of play. 3 Travel Information TRAVEL BY ROAD It is anticipated that, given the high number of spectators likely to attend The Open Championship, the road network in and around Lytham St Annes will be busy. Lancashire Constabulary is urging all motorists to use the designated traffic routes, all of which will be clearly signed by the AA. If visitors are travelling from outside Lancashire, please use the M6 and travel to junction 32. At this junction, follow the M55 for Blackpool. All public cars and coaches should continue on the M55 until they reach signs instructing them to leave the motorway. Signs will direct drivers to the appropriate car parks. Drivers with Reserved parking labels should follow the appropriate colour coded Open signs along the M55. Those ignoring the identified routes are likely to experience lengthy delays. PARK AND RIDE Designated routes will lead to Park and Ride faclilities operating from all Public car parks. These facilities will reduce delays, allowing motorists to travel free to and from the course on the dedicated buses provided. Lancashire police officers will be on hand to assist with these journeys. The Constabulary encourages spectators to use the Park and Ride facilities to minimise disruption to local traffic and ensure a swift transfer to the Championship. PARKING CHARGES Weekly Car Park labels are available at a cost of Weekly labels are only available in advance from The R&A and are subject to availability. Please note that owing to the limited number of Greenside Club, Reserved Grandstand Seats and Fairways Club tickets available, a maximum of four per application is permitted. Any junior who is accompanied by a responsible adult will be admitted free of charge on the day and will be given the appropriate ticket at the paygate. 3. Spectator Facilities BANKING SERVICE HSBC, the world s local bank and Patron of The Open Championship, will be providing a comprehensive banking service, including several ATMs within the Tented Village. At the Championship, there will be no charge to non HSBC customers for using the ATMs. ACCESS TO THE COURSE Spectators can move freely around the golf course but please stay outside the ropes. Controlled crossing points, which are clearly marked by yellow signposts, should be used when crossing fairways. FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED Viewing areas have been set aside at a number of greens for those in wheelchairs. GRANDSTANDS Approximately 20,000 seats will be located around the course and at the Practice Ground. Please note that smoking and alcohol are not permitted on grandstands. SCOREBOARDS A comprehensive service throughout the course and Tented Village will keep spectators fully informed. LARGE SCREENS Keep up-todate with the action on the large screens located in the Tented Village.

7 Spectator Facilities SAFETY Please be reminded that under wet conditions the ground may become slippery and appropriate footwear should be worn. MEDICAL AND FIRST AID Full medical and first aid facilities will be available at several points around the course and in the Tented Village. STEP LADDERS Step ladders or similar are not permitted within the paygates and should not be brought to the course. PETS No pets are allowed at the course and we respectfully suggest that you do not leave your pet in the car. INCLEMENT WEATHER In the event of inclement weather, it may be necessary to evacuate the grandstands. Please observe the instructions of marshals. CATERING FACILITIES There are many licensed catering points both on course and within the Tented Village. CRECHE FACILITY Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this facility for children of the general public, given the size of the expected crowd. BINOCULARS Nikon is a Patron of The Open Championship and a full range of binoculars is available for sale or hire from the Nikon Marquee in the Tented Village. LEFT LUGGAGE FACILITIES There will be several complimentary left luggage facilities located throughout the Tented Village, operated on a first come, first served basis. Please note that security bag searches may be in operation. THE SENIOR OPEN 2012 The Senior Open Championship will be held at Turnberry from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July Spectators who hold a valid admission ticket from the previous week s Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes will be entitled to purchase a half price Senior Open admission ticket at the paygates.
