In 15 years, the club has gone from 6 swimmers to over 575 registered athletes swimming out of more than eight different facilities in the Greater Raleigh area. Paul oversees a staff of eight full-time coaches and over 20 additional part-time staff. Paul runs a weekly staff meeting, writes a weekly newsletter and negotiates all facility contracts, including organizing the overall practice structure. His primary coaching role is with the top Senior group in downtown Raleigh. On a daily basis, Paul has a laser focus on the tasks that need to be accomplished and delegates projects to staff to insure that the weekly details are getting accomplished. He pushes the staff to always give

4 their best effort and become better leaders in the sport. Paul expects the best from every coach on the staff and I think usually gets everyone s top efforts. Paul drives those around him to understand that there are no shortcuts to good coaching. He believes because our customers expect the best, we need to provide great product for them. Many team issues are discussed as a group, but we always know that Paul has usually made up his mind and is just leading us to agree with his decisions! Though Paul is often described by some as tough to deal with, he s definitely someone you d love to have on your side of any issue. He s a bulldog in a fight and has the keen ability to see all sides of an issue and once he decides where he stands will never back down until you re standing on the same side as he sees it. That s what a leader does. His accomplishments this season have been numerous and he is most deserving of the Coach of the Year Award.

5 Franke Bell Senior Coach of the Year Award Nomination David Marsh SwimMAC Carolina (MAC) Nominator: Russ Kasl 1. Achievements: 2016 USA Swimming Women s Olympic Head Coach 15 medals in total were won by the women s team- 6 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze in individual events; 2 gold and 1 silver in relay events including the 1000 th USA gold in Olympic history in the women s 400 medley relay. He coached 23 members at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials. 14 of them were from our Team Elite program and 9 of them were from our Senior 1 side of the program. 8 SwimMAC members made the Olympic Team accounting for 6 medals in total. Anthony Earvin (2 gold), Kathleen Baker (1 gold, 1 silver), Katie Meili (1 gold, 1 bronze), Jimmy Feigen (1 gold), Ryan Lochte (1 gold) 2. Community Support: David is on the steering committee for USA Swimming. 3. Club Leadership: David serves as the Head Coach and Director of Coaching at SwimMAC Carolina in which he specifically has direct influence with swimmers and coaches at the senior level. He is responsible for creating the team s vision, educating the senior and age group staff and inspiring the members toward being the best swim club of which we are capable.

President of the Greater YMCA Sunbelt Swimming Association Member of the YMCA of the USA Upper Southeast Regional Swimming Committee CLUB LEADERSHIP Jon is starting his 23rd year as the Director of Competitive Swimming at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. (26th year with YSST). His job includes: supervision of all assistant coaches, head coach of 100+ swimmers (including national group), all administrative and website duties for the team, and YMCA Director responsibilities outside of the pool. Jon was just recently named Director of Aquatics and Competitive Swimming with Association-wide responsibilities. Jon Jolley is a leader in our sport. Not only do his swimmers excel at every level, he also gives of his time to present opportunities in the way of clinics for swimmers as well as being involved in the governing bodies of the sport both in NC Swimming and the YMCA. When he was Age Group Chairman he redefined the role of NC Swimming AG chair and after he fulfilled both terms as AG Chair he has served as both the Junior and Senior Coaches Rep.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT Participating in the LSC administration: Casey served on the NCS Nomination Committee Working to promote the sport of swimming in the local area: Casey selflessly gives his time and energy to bringing competitive swimming to the local area and surrounding counties. He volunteers time and served as computer operator for Eastern Carolina Conference High School Championship meet. He also attended multiple board meetings of the local summer swim league.

9 3. CLUB LEADERSHIP Coach Casey works tirelessly to advance swimming in eastern North Carolina. Through spearheading the expansion of the ECA brand into Roanoke Rapids, Casey brought quality year-around swimming into an area where it did not exist. This year he has worked equally hard to bring the Camp Lejeune Swim Team under the ECA umbrella as they were left without a US Swimming sponsor. This merger will begin in September Casey s swimmers have improved greatly under his guidance again this year. His passion for the sport and genuine care for his athletes is unparalleled. His commitment to his team is also unwavering as he is constantly sacrificing personal time for the advancement of the ECA brand. He is a strong leader for his coaches and sets the standard for excellence by example. Casey is deserving of the 2016 Coach of the Year Award.
