1 FACULTY OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES School of Art, Media and American Studies SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (40%fte) Ref: RA1332 The Post The post holder is expected to conduct research on forms of religious heritage in East Anglia, using a combination of fieldwork, literature review and museum research, resulting in the publication of research papers in peer-reviewed journals and an exhibition by the end of the project. The post holder is expected to conduct the following tasks: To conduct 6 months of full-time fieldwork To attend meetings and festivals related to the research subject To research the material culture of religious heritage, in particular in East Anglia To write and present research papers To publish at least two articles in peer-reviewed academic journals To organise an exhibition on the subject in Hungate Medieval in 2019 The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager/PI. The Project This project is funded by Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA). It seeks to investigate the paradoxes and tensions inherent in the heritagisation of religious sites, objects and practices within Europe. The project seeks to take theories of heritage and heritagisation into novel directions by linking it to the analytical categories of religion, the secular, and the sacred. The region of East Anglia is historically characterised by a great diversity of religious practices, varying from those associated with well-known prehistoric sites (Seahenge), Celtic sites (Sutton Hoo), and Christian sites of pilgrimage (Walsingham, Bury St Edmunds). In the UK division of this research project, we will examine how such sites are appropriated as religious heritage. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix A.

2 GENERAL Salary Salary will be 31,656 to 37,768 per annum, pro rata for part-time, on Grade 7 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting date The post is available from 1 January 2017 on a part-time basis (40%FTE) for a fixed term period to 31 August Terms and Conditions of Appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Research and Analogous Staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of six weeks plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays, pro rata for part-time. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. Proof of Qualifications The person specification for this post lists qualifications that are essential and/or desirable and you may hold some or all of these qualifications. 3 Occupational Health Assessment Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Occupational Health Assessment to be carried out by the University s Occupational Health Service. This research proposal will not be a fixed commitment, but will serve as starting point for the development of the research during the first months of the project, in discussion with the Principal Investigator.
