4 14 Finding the Rule for a Function Table 2b (DOK 2) Getting the Idea The function table below gives input numbers that change to output numbers by following a rule The rule for the function table above is Multiply by 2. EXAMPLE 1 What is the rule for the function table? STRATEGY STEP 1 Find how the numbers are related. Each output number is greater than the input number, so use addition or multiplication. Look for a number that can be added to or multiplied by the input to get the output number each time. The rule does not appear to use multiplication because , but , not 15. STEP 2 Try addition.
