Building Materials, Tools, and Paint Home Improvement, not just a tv show from the 90s. Cars No, not the ones that talk. Clothing Knowing who wears the pants in the family, both metaphorically and physically. DVDs and CDs I m sure no one will judge your collection. Maybe. Page 4 Electronics idonate. Page 4 Food Yum. Page 4 Furniture Chairs, sofas, mattresses, and anything else that keeps you indoors. Gardening The original hoe-down. They have a truck to pick up items if you can t deliver it yourself. Call The United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) accepts smaller appliances. You can call them at Baby Items, Children s Items and Toys Peter Young: Housing, Industries, and Treatment accepts children s toys, children s books, and baby supplies (including diapers, formula, and playpens). You can visit them at or call their offices at Albany s Capital District is a very eclectic area, and with this diversity comes countless places to donate items. For both the benefit of the environment and the ease of you, we have compiled a huge list of where to donate almost any item. Now you can make space for that entertainment room you always wanted, popcorn machine and all. Grassroot Givers is a non-profit organization that takes in donations and distributes them to other non-profits. They accept Children s clothes, toys, and games. They also accept board games and toys Bicycles The Troy Bike Rescue accepts donations of bicycles, bicycle parts and tools. To donate, bring them to either one of their locations in Troy or Albany Troy Bike Rescue: th Avenue, Troy; Open shop hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 5-8pm. 3 arrange a pick-up. Books Dove and Hudson buys and sells used books of all genres. They are located at 296 Hudson Ave, Albany, NY. They take them no matter what school you attended (yay!). They buy back books any time that they are open, which is Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm, Fridays 9am-5pm, and Saturdays 12pm-5pm. Call Jezreel International Local Warehouse accepts building materials. 10 Interstate Ave, Albany Cars Habitat for Humanity has a Cars for Homes Program, where you can donate your car and 100% of the proceeds are distributed to your local Habitat Affiliate, allowing them to build houses in your own community. Catholic Charities Wheels for Work Program invites members of the local community to donate their used cars to their organization. These vehicles are serviced mechanically and given out to individuals or households within a certain income level. Having a car can mean a better paying job and an escape from poverty Hegeman St, Schenectady, NY. You also have the choice to donate your car to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. You can call or complete an online form at 0. Clothing Trinity Alliance s Family and Neighborhood Resource Center at 15 Trinity Place, Albany, accepts all different kinds of clothing donations. You can contact them at Dress for Success Albany provides professional attire for women to help promote self-sufficiency through career development. Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless has a Drop- In Center that accepts clothing donations for those living in extreme poverty or those moving from homelessness into an apartment. Donations can be dropped off at 26 Sheridan Ave, Albany, and on weekends at their Emergency Shelter at 176 Sheridan Ave, Albany. United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) accept donations of winter coats and boots. You can fill out a Goods Donation Form and see their full wish list at gator/albany/givegoods. They are located at 991 Broadway, Suite 223, Albany The Cinderella Project of the Capital Region collects new and like-new prom and bridesmaids dresses, fancy shoes, and jewelry. They provide them free of charge to high school girls who are experiencing financial difficulty, so they can attend school events like Prom. They have many collection events where you can donate. PYHIT helps to provide treatment, housing, and industry for the previously addicted who have been through, or are seeking treatment. You can call their offices at or visit their website at Albany County Nursing Home accepts donations of working TVs and clocks. They are located at 780 Albany Shaker Road, Albany Equinox, Inc. accepts donations of cell phones and chargers. Their program distributes the phones to victims of domestic violence. The phones can be used to dial 911 even without a regular plan or service. Equinox is located at 95 Central Ave, Albany Listed on the wish list of Girls, Inc, there are scientific calculators, CD Players, and cameras. Girls, Inc has two locations in the Capital District. They also accept some appliances, fluorescent bulbs and batteries. Apple, Dell, Gateway, and Toshiba all have buy-back or trade-in programs for your old desktop computer or laptop. Apple: You get an estimate on the value online which will be given to you in the form of an Apple Store Gift Card. They will send you a box and prepaid shipping label. Apple also destroys computers for a $30 fee and recycles Mac batteries for free (just bring them into the nearest Apple Store!). Dell Buyback Plan: corp-comm/environment-recyclingbuyback-plan.aspx. Consumer Reports Greener Choices - If you are worried about someone committing identity theft from your old hard drive, stealing ultra-personal information, or are just completely paranoid, there are two sites online that can wipe or destroy the information on your hard drive. Food The Bethany Hospitality Center, located at 27 State Street in Troy, prides themselves on being the only place in Rensselaer County that anyone in need can get a hot meal every single day of the year. To help them fulfill their mission, they have a wish list which asks for paper towels, plates, and bowls, powdered drink mix, condiments, and creamer. They also accept donations of seeds and seedlings. To donate, call them up at Jezreel International Local Warehouse accepts donations of farming equipment and supplies.
