1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Lead Clinical Pharmacist/Deputy Pharmacy Manager CLINICAL UNIT: Pharmacy BASE: The Portland Hospital for Women and Children MANAGED BY: Pharmacy Manager ACCOUNTABLE TO: Pharmacy Manager HOSPITAL PROFILE Internationally renowned for clinical excellence, The Portland Hospital is the only independent hospital in the UK entirely dedicated to women and children. Our inpatient and outpatient specialties reflect this, providing clinical expertise in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Women`s Health. The hospital has been consistently growing over the past few years, almost doubling since Our Paediatric wards hold 56 inpatient beds + 11 day case and are equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced medical and surgical care, including a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit which reflects the acuity and complex nature of the children who are admitted to our hospital. The Portland Hospital has a large number of international Paediatric patients, often funded by relevant embassies. The Portland Hospital is the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK. The hospital provides for both consultant-led and midwifery-led deliveries, having an 18 bedded ward to facilitate this. Alongside this there is a 12 bedded Gynecology and Women s Health in-patient ward. The Portland Hospital also has a large outpatient department for all areas of its clinical expertise, to facilitate continuous care or simpler procedures. This is accomplished through our core set of Positively Portland values that all employees will work to: JOB SUMMARY Greetings, Respect, Teamwork, Initiative, Responsibility and Acknowledgement Responsible for: Leading and delivering specialist pharmacy services, undertaking risk management and ensuring compliance with medicines legislation Supporting local and corporate strategies Providing expert advice on pharmaceutical matters in specialist field Leading and developing clinical audit and undertaking research Deputy Pharmacy Manager role Page 1 of 5
2 MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To comply with relevant legislation, code of conduct, professional standards and policies/procedures. To lead and provide expert pharmaceutical care across the hospital. To actively support the medicines management framework. To lead and demonstrate best and evidence based practices. To provide and analyse highly complex drug or medicine related information to prescribers, clinicians, patients and relatives. To plan and organise the provision of specialist services; audit and research activities. To schedule department activity to meet the needs of the service. To comply with the Medicines (Pharmacies) (Responsible Pharmacist) Regulation and participate in the Responsible Pharmacist duties, ensuring safe and effective running of the pharmacy in relation to the sale and supply of medicines. To undertake risk management and ensure compliance with medicines legislation. To propose and actively contribute to policy and guideline development. To provide active input to service changes. To provide and actively support the clinical supervision of pharmacy staff. To maintain robust, comprehensive documentation. To support quality initiatives and promote the image of pharmacy services. To promote a learning culture and provide mentorship at local and corporate level. To actively contribute to the multidisciplinary team (e.g. attending rounds/committees). To actively contribute to the HCA Lead Clinical Pharmacist group. To continually develop own knowledge and skill to specialist level. To provide and support out of hours services. Interim appraisal to be completed within first 3-6 months of employment. Full appraisal to be completed biannually thereafter. The Portland Hospital is a regulated organisation and as such, all post holders must have their criminal record checked.
