2 History of DVES: Toronto Employment & Social Services in partnership with: Local Immigration Partnership (North Toronto LIP) Employment Ontario Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office (TNO) Labour Education Centre (LEC) Skills for Change (SFC) Centre for Education and Training (CET)

3 Community based group that evolved from the original Local Immigration Partner ship in early 2012 to address local area labour market needs. Group originated with three local area Employment Ontario agencies: Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office Skills for Change Labour Education Centre Who partnered with North Toronto Local Immigration Partnership and Toronto Employment and Social Services In 2014, expanded to include Centre for Education and Training

4 Objective: To implement a workforce development strategy to bring employers and local area job seekers together in filling the ongoing employment opportunities available.

5 Events: March 2012 Don Valley LIP Power Employer Breakfast Ontario Science Centre A forum for various employers, community agencies, and all three government levels to discuss labour market trends and the advantages of hiring local talent.

6 October 24, 2013 DVES Hiring Event City of Toronto s Golden Mile Employment and Social Services Office Collaboration amongst the respective Employment Ontario Job Developers in the Don Valley area who have taken a joint approach to engaging local employers and job seekers. This has resulted in a coordinated employer outreach campaign increasing the amount of employment opportunities for residents and job seekers.

7 May 29, 2014 Ontario Science Centre DVES Learning Forum For job seekers looking for work in the financial/administration sectors. Objective of the event was to provide job seekers with an opportunity to learn about and connect with employers, Human Resource Professionals and employment service providers.

9 Outcomes -DVES Learning Forum 141 jobseekers registered 16 Employers represented Job seeker feedback: 93% believed the Learning Event provided a good to excellent opportunity to get information about what employers are looking for 91% believed the information and resources provided were useful Employer feedback: Were impressed with the calibre of clients and wanted to participate in future events.

10 October 24 th, 2014 DVES Hiring Event - Ontario Science Centre Event was by invitation only to candidates who were screened and coached by 4 Employment Ontario partners and TESS offices. 13 employers in attendance representing the following sectors: Healthcare, Telecommunications, Digital Media, Finance and Administration, Construction, Customer Service/Retail. There were a total of 295 scheduled interviews between employers and candidates. Overall 95% of the candidates indicated satisfaction with the event.

11 History of Association of Professionals in Thorncliffe (APT): Established 2012 Number of members served: Association of Professionals in Thorncliffe is a networking group of internationally educated professionals in the Thorncliffe (and Flemingdon) area. APT advisory committee members provide leadership for the group. Based out of Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office Meetings: Every 2 nd Friday of the month Lead Staff: Hafiz Khan
