1 National Symposium on Advances in Separation and Purification Science & Technology NSST 2016 The Department of Chemical Engineering, G H Patel College of Engineering & Technology Vallabh Vidyangar organized two day National symposium on Advances in Separation and Purification Science & Technology during September The two day programme was inaugurated by Dr, Amitava Das, Director, CSMCRI, Bhavnagar and Dr. C L Patel, Chairman Charutar Vidya Mandal. The two-day symposium was aimed to create a platform for knowledge sharing for all stakeholders in the area of separation and purification technologies. It covered a rich variety of subjects, technologies and practices, thereby giving a comprehensive overview on the subject. The event featured a mix of eminent speakers from research institutes, academia and the private sector, providing examples and case studies of changed and changing paradigms that will provide the fuel for attendees looking for possibilities. In his inaugural speech Dr. Das appraised the role of CSMCRI for the water purification and the development of new technology for cleaner production processes. Dr. C L Patel in his presidential remarks highlighted the importance of the topic and its social relevance; He congratulated the participants and the organizers. Other Secretaries of Charutar VidyaMandal, Dr. Himanshu Soni Principal GCET, Dr. Kaushik Nath, Head of Chemical Engineering and the Organizing Secretaries Dr. M S Bhakhar and Dr. Anand Metre were also present. 1

2 There were more than 160 delegates and participants from various academic institutes from all over India, R & D organization and industries like, RIL, Baroda, HPCL, Bangalore, AMUL and many more. Eminent speakers of the event include Dr. S Sridhar from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, (IICT), Hyderabad, Dr. Satish Kumar from Reliance Industries,Baroda Dr. V K Shahi from CSMCRI, Bhanvagar, Dr. Sanjay Sengupta, National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCASIR), New Delhi, Mr. Arun Kuinyl from HPCL Bangalore, Dr. S M Manocha from IP University, Nedw Delhi and so on. About 95 papers and posters were presented in the technical sessions. Various professional societies like ISTE, IMS, MRSI, IE (I), IIChE and about 18 Chemical Industries were the partner of the event. Some of them put up exhibitions stalls. The organizing committee brought out an informative souvenir and book of abstract on this event. The students of Chemical Engineering also presented a colorful cultural evening as a part of the symposium. There were also technical visits of the delegates to AMUL dairy. The event was highly recognized all over Gujarat and beyond and the organizing team received very good feedback from the participants.
