JESUS HEALS A MAN WITH LEPROSY mark 1:40-45 A man with leprosy knelt down in front of Jesus. He begged Jesus to heal him. People with leprosy had to stay away from other people. They could not live with their families. "Please, please, heal me," the man said. "If you want to do it, I know you can." Jesus felt sorry for the man. He touched him. No one ever touched a leper. Leprosy was catching. It spread very easily from one person to another. "I want to heal you," Jesus said. "Be healed!" Suddenly the man was healed. He did not have leprosy anymore. So Jesus sent him to see a priest. People who were healed had to show a priest that they were well. The priest would then officially say that they could go back and live with other people. "Go to a priest immediately," Jesus said. "Don't stop along the way. Take an offering as the law of Moses requires. Show yourself to the priest. Then you will have proof that you are healed." The man rushed away. But as he went, he told everyone what had happened to him. The news spread, and before long there were crowds around Jesus all the time. It was hard for Him to go into any public place because of the crowds. He had to stay out in places away from towns and cities. Even there many people gathered around Him to be near Him. DISCUSSION: Did the man with leprosy want to be healed? How do you know? Did he really believe that Jesus could heal him? How do you know? Did Jesus want to heal him? How do you know? Why did Jesus want the man to tell a priest what had happened? When Jesus does something special for us, we should tell others what He has done. Has Jesus forgiven your sins? Has He become your Savior? What can you tell other about Jesus today? Some content taken from the One Year Bible for Children, New Living Translation, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. and V. 2 A HOLE IN THE ROOF MARK 2:1-12 When Jesus came back to Capernaum, news spread that He was there. The house where He was staying filled up with people. Soon there was no more room, not even for one more person. No one could get near Jesus inside or outside the house. Then Jesus preached to these people. Four men came to the house. They were bringing a friend to Jesus. Their friend couldn't move, so they were carrying him on a mat. But they couldn't get through the crowd to the door. What could they do? Then they got an idea. They made a hole in the clay roof and let their friend down through the hole. The man lay on his mat as his friends lowered him until he was right in front of Jesus. Jesus saw how much the friends believed in Him. So He spoke to the man who couldn't move. He said, "Your sins are forgiven." Some Jewish religious leaders were there. "What a terrible sin against God!" they whispered. "Only God can forgive sins!" They didn't think Jesus heard them, but He knew what they were saying. "Is it easier to tell this man, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?" Jesus asked the leaders. Then He said, "I will prove now that God has given me the right to forgive sins." Jesus turned to the man who couldn't move. "Stand up, take your mat, and go home," Jesus said. "You are healed." The man jumped up. He picked up his mat and pushed his way through the crowd. The people were all shocked to see this. Then they all praised God. "We've never seen anything like this before," the people said. DISCUSSION: Why couldn't the men get to Jesus with their friend? What did they do to get their friend to Jesus? Why were some men not happy when the man was healed? Why was Jesus able to heal the man? Can you heal someone? Why not?

Four men cared about a friend. They also believed in Jesus. So they helped a man get healed. Do you care about a friend? Do you believe in Jesus? You may help a friend get a special gift from Jesus. Some content taken from the One Year Bible for Children, New Living Translation, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. and V. 4 ` ` JESUS ASKS MATTHEW TO FOLLOW HIM matthew 9:9-13 Matthew was working at the booth where he collected taxes from people. As he was sitting there, Jesus came by. "Come with me and be my disciple," Jesus said to Matthew. So Matthew left his work behind and followed Jesus. That night Matthew invited Jesus and His other disciples to dinner. He invited them to come to his house. He also invited more tax collectors and other people who were known as sinners because of the bad things they did. Matthew wanted all of these people to know Jesus too. But some of the Jewish religious leaders, who were called Pharisees, were angry about the dinner. "Why does Jesus eat with such bad people?" they asked Jesus' disciples. Jesus heard them. So He said, "People who are well do not need a doctor. Sick people need the doctor." Jesus knew that the Pharisees were not kind. So He said, "You should learn what this Scripture means." Then Jesus quoted Hosea 6:6 which says that God wants us to be kind and merciful. That's more important to Him than our offerings. Jesus knew that the Pharisees also thought they were better than the other sinners around them. So Jesus also said to these men, "I have come from heaven to help bring sinners to God. I have not come to help those who think they are so good they don't need me." DISCUSSION: What kind of work did Matthew do? What did Jesus ask Matthew to do? Where did Jesus go to dinner that night? Why were the Pharisees angry? The Pharisees thought Jesus should hate sinners. But God loves all people. He wants sinners to give up their sin and turn to Jesus. Then they can live with Him forever. If God loves everyone, so should we!

JESUS HEALS A SICK MAN JOHN 5:1-18 one day Jesus went to Jerusalem for a Jewish holy day. As He came near the pool of Bethesda, He saw crowds of sick people lying around it. They believed that the first person in the pool after the water stirred would be healed. Some of the people couldn't see; others couldn't walk; some couldn't even move. One man had been sick for 38 years. "Would you like to be healed?" Jesus asked. "I can't," the man said. "When the water gets stirred up, I have no one to help me into the pool. Someone else always gets there first." "Get up, pick up your mat, and walk," Jesus said. Right away, the man was healed. He rolled up his mat and walked away. Some Jewish leaders saw the man carrying his mat. "You can't do that," they said. "That's work, and this is the Sabbath." "But the man who healed me said I should carry my mat," the man said. "Who was this man?" the leaders asked. The man who had been healed didn't know. Later, in the Temple, Jesus said to the man, "You are healed, so stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." Then the man told the leaders that Jesus had healed him. The leaders were upset that Jesus broke the rules about the Sabbath. They even wanted to kill Him. "My Father always works," Jesus said. "So why should I stop working?" The Jewish leaders hated Jesus. He not only broke the Sabbath rules, but He called God His Father. DISCUSSION: How long had the man by the pool been sick? How long did it take for Jesus to make the man well? Do you think the man said "I can't" after that day?

Jesus wants to do many good things for us. Instead of saying "I can't", we need to say "Thank you, Jesus." Make a list of good things Jesus does for you. After each one write, "Thank you, Jesus." 8 JESUS HEALS A CRIPPLED HAND mark 3:1-6 One Sabbath day Jesus went to the synagogue in Capernaum. While He was there, He saw a man who had a hand that he couldn't use. Since it was the Sabbath day, the Pharisees watched Him. They were the Jewish leaders who hated Jesus. Would He dare to heal this man's hand on the Sabbath? That would be work, and it was against the rules that the Pharisees wanted everyone to follow. If Jesus healed the sick man's hand, the leaders could arrest Him. Jesus told the man to come and stand where everyone could see him. Then Jesus looked at the people around Him. "Is the Sabbath a day to do good things or bad things?" Jesus asked. "Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?" None of the people -- not even the Jewish leaders -- would answer Jesus. Then Jesus looked at the leaders angrily. He was very upset with their hard hearts. "Reach out your hand," Jesus said to the man. The man held out his hand, and it became healthy like it should be! When the Pharisees saw what Jesus had done, they went away. Then they began to make plans to kill Jesus. DISCUSSION: Why did Jesus' enemies want to arrest Him? The Pharisees thought you should not do any work on the Sabbath. They thought healing was work. So they thought Jesus should not heal on the Sabbath. They thought it was better for the man to have a hand that he couldn't use than to be healed on the Sabbath. Why was Jesus angry at these leaders? Would you be angry at them? Why? Any time is the right time to help someone. We must have rules, of course, but they must be good rules. Talk with your parents about rules. Is there ever a time to disobey a rule? 9 A MAN IS HEALED FAR AWAY matthew 8:5-13; luke 7:1-10 A Roman army officer had a slave who was very special to him. But the slave became so sick that he couldn't move, and he was in great pain. He was almost dead. The officer sent some Jewish leaders to see Jesus. They begged Jesus to heal the slave. "This Roman officer deserves your help," they said. "He loves the Jewish people and does so much for us. He even built a synagogue for us." "All right. I will come and heal his slave," Jesus said. Before they came to the house, the officer sent some friends to Jesus. They brought this message from the Roman officer. "Don't bother coming to my house," he said. "I am not good enough for you to come here. Just say that my slave will be healed, and he will be. I obey the officers who are over me, and the soldiers I'm in charge of obey me. My slaves obey me too. When I tell them to do something, they do it. So I understand how this works." "I haven't seen an Israelite person in all the land with this much faith," Jesus said. "Many people like this Roman officer will sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to feast in my kingdom. And many Israelites who come from the family of Abraham will be sent out into the darkness. There they will cry hard because they will be so sad." Then Jesus told the Roman officer that his slave was healed. And he was! DISCUSSION: Who was sick? Who asked Jesus to heal him? How did he want Jesus to heal his slave? What did Jesus think of this Roman officer? Did Jesus heal the young man? What if the officer had not believed in Jesus? Would his slave had been healed? Do you want Jesus to help you? You must believe that He can! You must believe that He will! Trust Jesus to always help you in the way that is best.

Read Matthew 8:10 What did Jesus say about the centurion's faith? It was Roman. It was the greatest faith in Rome. It was the greatest faith in Israel. Read Matthew 8:8-9 The centurion knew that Jesus was in charge of: his soldiers. his servant. the hospital. the world. all of these. See how many words you can make from the letters in these words: CENTURION'S SERVANT Read Matthew 8:5-6 Paralyzed means unable to move. See how many minutes you can sit without moving at all. How do you think the servant felt when he was paralyzed? Some content taken from the One Year Bible for Children, New Living Translation, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. and V. 11 jesus helps a boy come back to life luke 7:11-17 Jesus was going to the village of Nain one day. Crowds of people were with Him, as always. When they came close to Nain, they saw a line of people marching out of town. A widow's only son had died. His body was wrapped up, and some men were carrying it on a hard cot. Many of the people of Nain were there with the widow, crying with her over the death of her son. The poor woman was a widow -- her husband was dead. Now her son also was dead. She had no one to take care of her. Jesus went over to the woman. "Don't cry," He said. Then He went to the young man's wrapped up body and touched it. The men carrying the body stopped. "Young man, get up!" Jesus said. The dead boy suddenly sat up. He was alive again! He even began talking to those around him. Then Jesus gave the boy back to his mother. The people in the crowd were afraid when they saw this. But they praised God and said, "A great prophet has come to us. We have seen God at work here today." The news of what Jesus had done spread all over the land of Judea. It even spread out beyond that to other places. DISCUSSION: Who had died? Why was this especially sad? What did Jesus say to the boy who had died? How did the people there feel about this miracle? How would you have felt if you had seen this happen? Would you have praised God too? It is good to praise God when He does something special for us. Think of something good that God has done for you. Say "Thank you." You may also want to say "Praise God!"
