6 Defining CSR CSR is a company's commitment to operate in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner, while recognizing the interests of its stakeholders -DPE Guidelines on CSR for CPSEs,

7 DPE Guidelines Identification of projects near operational areas of the organization ONGC: Putting it into Practice 25 ongoing projects in ONGC operational areas. 3 projects in non-operational areas Shift towards project-based approach Clear demarcation between (28 ongoing and 39 upcoming) social projects and ad-hoc sponsorships Shift from ad-hoc charity to long-term sustainability approach Sustainability of projects taken into account during initial screening and project development Corporate Social Responsibility Action Plan Mix of short, medium and long-term projects. Project developed and implemented following defined stages Deciding implementation guidelines Physical and social milestones set. Milestone-linked payment and PICs set up Baseline surveys mandatory Baseline survey integrated into long-term projects as a necessary first step

8 DPE Guidelines ONGC: Putting it into Practice Implementation through specialized agencies and not staff Implementation through Community Based Organizations; Panchayats; NGOs; Academic institutions; Trusts and Missions etc. Project Monitoring Concurrent and final evaluation by independent external agencies PMCs set up and monitoring plan incorporated into MOU Agencies to be identified for carrying out impact assessment CSR plan to be integrated with business plan No duplication of CSR activities Documentation of CSR work CSR aligned by means like: Greening the supply chain; Mangrove Plantation etc. Annual Report, DPE, Ministries, reporting to National CSR Hub to bring transparency Movies, documentaries, video clips, articles, presentations on CSR at ONGC

9 CSR Framework DPE mandates that in CPSEs with profits over Rs. 500 crores, 0.5 2% of PAT needs to be spent on CSR activities ONGC has committed 2% of PAT towards CSR activities CSR activity is taken up at: - Corporate level: Pan-Indian, NCR, Projects in locations where ONGC does not have operations - Work center level: Initiatives specific to single work center 14 Corporate CSR, Delhi

12 Varishthajana Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan Mobile Medicare Units that take health care to the doorsteps of the neglected elderly on regular basis Focus Area: Healthcare Partner: Help Age India Geographical Coverage: 20 locations across operational areas of ONGC Beneficiary Coverage: 1.5 lakh elderly per annum (6 lakhs/5 yrs) Financial implication: Rs Crores (5 yrs) Launched on : 25 th October, 2010

14 The Elderly in ONGC Operational Areas: Baseline Survey Findings 35% of the population is above the age of 55 years. 35.8% of this elderly population are women. 55.6% of these families live Below Poverty Line. 62.7% belong to SC/ST/OBC category and 8% belongs to minority. 54.4% of elders are illiterate and 68% of elder women are illiterate.

15 The Elderly in ONGC Operational Areas: Quick facts 61.2 % of the elders are not economically active, the same for elder women is alarmingly high at 88.9%. 30% of the elders consume tobacco, gutkha, beedi and cigarette Joint pain and Hypertension, Asthma, diabetes, heart problem and ulcers. 4% of these elders suffer from some form of disability.

17 The Case of Malkipuram A Mandal in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh Ten villages: Karava, Torpu Pallem, Golla Palem, Kesanapalli, Padamati Pallem, Gudapali, Chintala Mori, Sankaraguptham, Kesavadasu Pallem, Tatipaka 3903 households with persons and 5277 elders 98.5% of the families Below Poverty Line 40.5% of the population were more than 55 years of age. 57.6% of the elders are illiterate and 56% of the elders are with out any economic activity. 8.74% of the elders have disability in some form.

20 ONGC s reach in Malkipuram Date of Launch of MMU: 29th October, 2010 Staffing: 8 staffs ; 2 drivers, 2 Special Protection Officers, 2 Auxiliary Nursing Midwives and 2 Medical Consultants Action: From October,2010 to December, 2011, the MMU visited 330 times to 10 villages carrying out 47,751 treatments in total. Average Village visits per month: 3.3 times A total of 12,236 medical cases screened Diagnosis, treatment, Medicines and consultations were provided for the same
