1 Canada Revenue Agency s Cmmunity Vlunteer Incme Tax Prgram (CVITP) The bjective f the CVITP is t help eligible individuals wh are nt able t prepare their incme tax and benefit returns by themselves. The CVITP is a cllabratin between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and cmmunity rganizatins such as the Lrd s Peace Chapel. Student vlunteers at the Lrd s Peace Chapel s tax preparatin clinic prepare tax returns fr eligible taxpayers individuals wh have lw incme and a simple tax situatins. Eligibility criteria Determining eligibility fr the CVITP Taxpayer status Family incme Single persn up t $30,000 Cuple up t $40,000 One adult with ne child up t $35,000 Vlunteers d nt prepare tax returns fr cmplex situatins such as: returns fr deceased persns; individuals wh file fr bankruptcy; self-emplyed individuals; individuals wh reprt capital gains r lsses; r individuals wh reprt emplyment expenses, r business r rental incme and expenses. Eligible taxpayers nrmally served by the CVITP may include: lw-incme individuals and scial assistance recipients; newcmers t Canada; senirs; and students.

2 2013 Vlunteer Tax Clinic Hurs The Lrd s Peace Chapel s 2013 vlunteer tax preparatin clinic takes place n : Saturdays and Sundays, frm 2pm t 4pm, between March 9 t April 28 (except March 31 Easter Sunday r April 21 Sun Run) At the Lrd s Peace Chapel Ministry Centre Rm West 73 rd Avenue (at the Airprt Square) Vancuver, BC Tax return preparatin is prvided fr eligible taxpayers n a first-cme, firstserved, walk-in basis. Please bring all relevant incme tax frms, receipts, and relevant persnal infrmatin such as scial insurance number, last year s tax return, etc. See belw fr a cmplete checklist. 3 D yu have t file a return? Yu must file a return fr 2012 if any f the fllwing situatins apply: Yu have t pay tax fr CRA sent yu a request t file a return. Yu and yur spuse r cmmn-law partner elected t split pensin incme fr Yu received wrking incme tax benefit (WITB) advance payments in Yu dispsed f capital prperty in 2012 r yu realized a taxable capital gain (fr example, if yu sld real estate r shares). Yu have t repay all r part f yur ld age security r emplyment insurance benefits. Yu have nt repaid all amunts withdrawn frm yur registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) under the Hme Buyers Plan r the Lifelng Learning Plan. Yu have t cntribute t the Canada Pensin Plan. This can apply if, fr 2012, the ttal f yur net self-emplyment incme and pensinable emplyment incme is mre than $3,500. Yu are paying emplyment insurance premiums n self-emplyment and ther eligible earnings. Even if nne f these requirements apply, yu may want t file a return if any f the fllwing situatins apply: Yu want t claim a refund. Yu want t claim the Wrking Incme Tax Benefit WITB fr Yu want t apply fr the GST/HST credit and related BC credit. Yu may be eligible if yu turn 19 befre April Yu r yur spuse r cmmn-law partner want t begin r cntinue receiving Canada child tax benefit payments. Yu have incurred a nn-capital lss in 2012 that yu want t be able t apply in ther years. Yu want t carry frward r transfer the unused part f yur tuitin, educatin, and textbk amunts. Generally, yur return fr 2012 has t be filed n r befre April 30, If yu file yur return after April 30, 2013, yur GST/HST credit, Canada child tax benefit payments, and ld age security benefit payments may be delayed.
