Last Day of BOOK FAIR Last Day for Chocolate Orders FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a lovely break over Easter. The students have certainly arrived back at school refreshed and ready to go. Congratulations Olivia Runner-Up Junior Mayor Olivia, our very talented School Captain, is to be congratulated on achieving the runner up trophy at the Kingston Council Junior Mayor Competition held yesterday. Olivia performed an excellent presentation and should be very proud indeed of her result. There were 28 schools in the competition so Olivia did very well indeed. It was also a pleasure to see Naveen, our last year s School Captain, on the official table on the stage. He was the Junior Mayor last year and handed the Mayoral robes over to the new Junior Mayor. Thank you to Mrs Kegen and the Year Six team for assisting with the process. New Little Toilets As a result of feedback from parents at the end of last term we have installed four new little toilets in the junior toilet block. The Foundation students can now easily use the toilets because they are the right size. Thank you to the parents who suggested this. A great idea! Thank you to Graeme, our handyman, who organised this over the holidays. Also parent feedback raised the issue of congestion at the main gate at 3.30pm each day. To address this we have opened the middle exit gate next to the gym so this can be used to ease the amount of people exiting through the main gate. Thank you once again to the parents who raised this issue. Hopefully this will make a difference.

2 Year 6 Shrine Visit The Year 6 students had a wonderful day at the Shrine of Remembrance on Wednesday. Thank you to the Chelsea RSL who provided the bus for the students. It was a wonderful event and one the students will certainly remember for a long time. Year 6 Year 7 Transition A number of our local schools are currently holding open evenings and school tours. We advise parents to take up this opportunity to explore the options to make a well informed decision for your child. All information can be found on the individual school website. Application for Year 7 forms are to be returned to school by Friday 22 nd May. Should you need further direction on completing the form please see Mr Baker. Athletic Sports The Year 3 6 Inter-House Athletic sports will be held next Wednesday 22 nd April. Parents are welcome to come and cheer the students along. There are also some places where parent volunteers are required. If you can spare an hour or two that would be great. Please see Miss McDougall if you can. Students are encouraged to wear their House colours on the day. House wristbands are available to purchase from the office for $3.00. YEAR BOOK 2015 Cheryle Osborne If you would like a copy of our fantastic 2015 Yearbook and have not included payment with your school fees, the cost is $20.00 and can be made payable to the office. We need to finalize numbers to be printed by the end of this term. So make sure you don t miss out on this spectacular offer! Glenys Balik MOTHER S DAY CLASSIC Mother s Day is less than a month away and this year is a very special year for us. Back in 2010 Helen and I were both diagnosed with Breast Cancer. We stood together as sisters, put our fists up and fought! We could not have done it without each other and the support of our friends, family, colleagues and AGPS community. This year we celebrate 5 years of being Cancer Free and we want to celebrate! The first part of our celebration will be walking the Mother s Day Classic with each other and anyone else who would like to join us on Sunday 10 th May. Please and join our team Always Smiling We are in WAVE 3 which starts at 9.55am but you can join in whenever it suits you; walking, running or even strolling! 3 UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES (UNSW) TESTING We are offering students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 the opportunity to participate in the University of New South Wales assessments in the following subject areas: English, Maths and Science. These tests will be held on Wednesday 3 rd June (Science), Tuesday 28 th July (English) and Tuesday 11 th August (Maths). Each test is approximately 45 minutes in length. The tests will be administered in school time and then sent off for external marking. Parents will receive a detailed report of how their children performed in the assessment, as well as the students receiving a certificate. Please see the letter that went home this week for further details as this includes the application form. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on Jonathan Baker PERFORMING ARTS Hi we are Lauren, Belle, Ellie, Alex and Emilie, the 2015 Performing Arts Leaders and every week we will be updating you on the production for this year, Seussical the Musical Junior! The musical is based on the work of Dr.Seuss. It is at least 15 of his most famous tales made into a full length book musical. Many of the characters have not been seen in the same books but they will meet in our musical. During the course of the production, some characters will fall in love, some will have crazy adventures and some will save the world! They will travel through different lands such as the Jungle of Nool. Dr. Seuss believes in the idea of not giving up and keeping a promise and our promise is to deliver you a fabulous production. From the Performing Arts Leaders ANZAC DAY ITEMS FOR SALE Some of our SRC representatives will be coming around to classrooms, and will also be at the flag pole between 8.45am 9.00am and 3.30pm 3.45pm each day next week selling items to celebrate Anzac Day. A very special mention to Emma Thorneycroft for her beautifully moving choreography allowing us to share the story of Cambodian children whose lives are so different to ours at our Harmony Day Assembly.

9 ASPENDALE STINGRAYS SOCCER CLUB would like to welcome NEW soccer players to our skills program delivered by our partner, FSA (Football Star Academy). The Skills program is delivered by FSA qualified coaches to develop skills in young boys and girls aged 4 to 8 to go onto playing competitive games of soccer with our club. The program is from April to September, starting Sunday 19th April 2015 at Parkdale Secondary College Oval off Magnolia Street for 16 weeks.
