2 Milton Keynes Council have two Day Centres that offer older people in Milton Keynes the opportunity to spend their day a in a safe and stimulating environment. The day services also provide a break for carers, enabling them to have some time away from their caring responsibilities. Our Day Centres are able to provide personal care from fully trained, dedicated and experienced staff, including assistance with toileting and the option to have a shower for those who do not have facilities at home, especially for those who require the use of a hoist. Our shower facilities are also available to clients who do not attend a Day Care Centre and do not have access to a purpose built facility at home. Eligibility To attend the day centres you need to have an assessed, eligible social care need. You will need to have a Community Care Assessment to determine this eligibility. Is There a Charge? There is a charge for day care; however, following your Community Care Assessment a financial assessment will also be carried out. Financial assessments are carried out to identify if you will have to make a contribution for these services. Aims of the Service To provide therapeutic day care to help maintain independence. To play an active role in rehabilitation and maintain already developed skills, as well as providing a social support network, transport and meals. What we provide Activities to encourage stimulation, motivation and participation, e.g. quiz days, bingo, arts and crafts, reminiscence, current affairs, games, theme days including: cooking, gardening, painting, art and craft, table top games, skittles, arm chair exercises and much more. 2

3 Entertainment from outside providers etc. Transport can be provided to and from the centres by minibus with tail lift for those in wheelchairs or who have mobility problems. Morning tea and biscuits and afternoon tea and cake are provided. A two course cooked meal on the premises with dietary needs being catered for. (There is a small charge for this). Outings may also be arranged to go out and about, visiting the local park for tea and feeding the ducks, to going to the safari park or visiting the vintage aeroplane museum and talking to their mechanics. Social interaction and inclusion. Who is the Service for? Older people who would like to remain at home and in the community for as long as they are able and wish to do so. Older people who would like to remain part of a social network and combat isolation. Older people who are cared for by a relative. Providing the carer with a flexible respite service, and enable them to have some time away from their caring responsibilities.. 3

4 Kitchener Day Care Centre Timpsons Row Olney MK46 4JJ Tel: Opening hours: Monday Friday, 09.00am 3.00pm (excluding bank holidays) Number of places: 15 daily Our clients include those who are physically frail, have a poor memory or have a diagnosis of Dementia. General Information: The Kitchener Centre has a beautiful garden with a water feature and pond, which is accessible to all, including wheelchair users. There are some raised flower beds and a vegetable patch which is attentively maintained by clients, staff and volunteers. In addition to our regular activities we are visited by a podiatrist once a month along with a hairdresser who visits us weekly. Both offer very good competitive rates. Appointments with outside agencies such as District Nurses, Social Care Services and Advocacy can also be held on site. 4

5 Transport can be provided to and from the centre in our minibus. The minibus can collect and return clients from both Olney and the surrounding villages and has a tail lift to aid those in wheelchairs or those who are physically frail and who are unable to manage steps safely. The driver always has an escort and both have received first aid training. There is a mobile phone on the minibus to aid communication throughout the journey and the number for this will be provided to clients and their carers. 5

6 Manor Road Day Care Centre Manor Road Bletchley MK2 2HP Tel: / Opening hours: Monday Friday, 8.30am 5.00pm (excluding bank holidays) Number of places: 26 daily Our clients include those who are physically frail, have a poor memory or have a diagnosis of mild Dementia. General Information: Manor Road has a large interior area with integrated dining room and lounge that has views out over a grassed area. In addition to our regular activities of crafts, current affairs, quizzes and varied entertainment programmes, we have a visiting podiatrist as required and a hairdresser who visits us weekly, both of which offer very good competitive rates. Appointments with outside agencies such as District Nurses, Social Care Services and Advocacy can also be held on site. 6

The driver is accompanied by an assistant and both have received first aid training. Service users journeys are planned, where possible, to be flexible so that they accommodate the service users and carer s needs. Shower facilities/personal care is also available and is carried out by our fully trained staff. Day Opportunities As well as the Day Centre Care Service, the Manor Road Centre can also offer Day Opportunities. This comprises of a staff or volunteer member visiting a service user in their home to either stay with them and engage in conversation, assist and encourage them with hobbies etc. or to accompany them on an outing of their choice e.g. a shopping trip, game of golf, swimming, visiting friends or relatives or just going out for coffee, or to the pub for a meal, or any other social activity within reason. Duration of these visits are set in 2 to 3 hourly time frames; these can, if requested, be saved up and used for longer visits as required and with reasonable notice. An adapted vehicle can be provided for those with mobility issues or wheelchair users. Please note; a charge will be made for mileage to and from your chosen activity. 7

8 What Service Users Have to Say about our Day Care Centre s Staff are positive, friendly and supportive one initial visit made me feel very welcome and instilled trust It gives him a very enjoyable day out, so he is much more calm and relaxed thank you so much for all the help and support you gave Tom and I. Due to this I was able to look after him at home right to the end. I will always be grateful for that.
