This is widely celebrated in Singapore too. We are embarking on the year of the monkey. Traditionally Chinese New Year is celebrated with dragon and lion dances. The Chinese New Year celebrations end with the lantern festival on the fifteenth day of the New Year. During this interval people visit their family, friends and other relations. We will also take part in the festivities at school. On Wednesday 17 February at 8.40 am the traditional Lion Dance will be performed on our main field for all students and their parents. You are all most welcome to join us. In this past Thursday s assembly the group 3c students taught us a few things about the meaning of the Chinese New Year. They also performed some wonderful Chinese dances. During this assembly we also took our leave from our departing families and welcomed quite a large number of new students as well. We wish them a good time and happy learning at the HSL. Next week the HSL team is professionalizing further. Various training programs will be offered to the Jip & Janneke and groups 1 thru 8 (specialty) teachers t/m 8 by the educational organization Bazalt.

3 My name is Mirjam van Rooij. In November 2015 I moved to Singapore with my husband Luc and our two children. My son Sam (8) is enrolled at the Hollandse School (in group 4c) and my daughter (2.5) attends group Red atjip & Janneke. 15 years ago I started working as a teacher. I love the purity and positive energy of children. It is a great challenge and pleasure for me to help and stimulate each individual child in their learning adventure at school. As a teacher I'm happy when children are feeling good and secure. I believe this is most important for the children to ensure a good learning process. In these 15 years I have worked at two primary schools, located in Nootdorp and Delft. As I lived in Asia before I also have experience teaching at an international school. I worked at two Dutch primary schools in Hong Kong for several years. In this period I also learned to differentiate children in one and the same grade level. In my career I also worked with toddlers and groups 3, 4, and 5 children. As I am beginning to get settled in Singapore now, it is becoming time for a great new challenge. My first impression of the Dutch school is very positive and I would love to be able to work and contribute as a teacher again! The advisory council is complete again; below Amcke Becker introduces herself. Dear parents, My name is Amcke Becker and I moved to Singapore with my family three years ago when I was being sent out here for work. In the past 15 years I have been a marketing manager for Unilever and Friesland Campina. Together with my partner and our children Jurre (8) and Nola (6) we are fully enjoying life in Singapore and traveling in South East Asia. We love sailing and think it is wonderful to discover places like Thailand, Malaysia and Australia from the water. I stem from a family where working in education was the standard and I even taught at the Faculty of Psychology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. As parents we are most pleased with the high quality education and guidance offered by the Hollandse School. This is why I feel honored to take a seat on the Advisory Council. It is with great enthusiasm that I would like to contribute so all children enjoy going to school and are able to continue to receive a high quality education. I look forward to working closely together in an open dialogue with the parents, the staff, the management team and the school board. 3

4 The NOB Foundation decided to cease their yearly NOB summer camp. The initiative and organization are prolonged by the World Wide Juf Foundation and Stefan Kops will continue to manage the camp. The camp takes place from Saturday 23 through Saturday 30 July. The camp is for groups 7 and 8 children (average age y/o). As in previous editions, the camp is for all children taking Dutch classes at a school liaised to the NOB Foundation. We can take no more than 42 students. The camp will continue with a minimum of 25 participants. Applications are honored on a first come first served basis. For more information and registrations please go to: D-Teach is offering a unique Dutch language camp following a completely new concept: full submersion in Flemish culture! A total package concept where we meet our online friends in real life and take on a playful journey from West to East. The camp will take place from Sunday 3 tot through Friday 8 July. 5 From Monday 18 July through Friday 22 July and from Monday 22 August through Friday 26 August the Basisclub in Amsterdam offers a Hollandse Summer week for Dutch language and culture. In the course of this week the children gain greater mastery of the Dutch language (reading, writing and speaking) and additionally we offer a lot of fun, educational and cultural activities. On top of this the children will meet others with similar backgrounds and experiences. The camp is meant for Dutch children living abroad, children who speak Dutch as a second language and foreign children living in the Netherlands and learning to speak Dutch. Age group: 7 thru 12 year olds. Our group size will be between 8 15 children. For more information and registrations please go to: 5
