1 Guide to using Lynda.com Lynda.com is a learning resource for various skills far from just IT Skills as most people believe. There are courses on Communication skills, photography, customer service and lots more. Logging in There are a two methods to access Lynda.com both of which are displayed below: Method 1 Method 2 Go to the Lynda.com website by typing into the address bar lynda.com Once there on the top right hand side there is an option to log in or sign up, as an Anglia Ruskin Staff member you already have an account so will need to select Log in. Open up My.anglia on the staff page. Once you are here please scroll down until you are able to see the Application Links on the right hand side. Once selected a window will then appear in the centre of the screen, please select the Right hand option: Organization Log in at the top of the window. This will then ask for either log in details or the Organization URL, please enter the University s web address (URL) There will then be a link called Online Learning with Lynda.com This will then open up a page and you will need to select the second link in blue within the text.

2 Once you have selected Go or the link, the computer will then re direct you to a page that looks similar to the log in screen on our website. Please use full username (abc123@anglia.ac.uk) and password, this will log you into your Lynda.com account and will take you to the main Lynda website.

3 How to use Lynda to learn? From here you will be able to navigate through the different sections to find courses that are of interest. Some useful ones that may appeal are within Business (relating to customer service, communication and more) there is also the option to brush up your skills on Microsoft office. Also when you are ready to progress further there are many Advanced IT courses such as web design. On the homepage if you hover over library at the top of the page a drop down menu will appear with a selection of topics on the left hand side. This will then update the topics that are presented on the right hand side. When a topic on the right hand side is selected a new webpage with a list of different videos will appear. These can be refined by a number of different options including skill level on the left hand side.

4 Once you have selected a course, it will open up a new window with a video in the centre of the screen The first step on opening the course of your choice is to download the exercise files, above the main video please select the exercise files button. This particular course has three exercise files, if you select each one it will then download onto your computer. You can see the progress of the download at the bottom of your screen.

5 Please click on the download and it will then open into a folder view. The contents of this folder will then be referred to throughout the video so that you can have hands on experience. I would recommend you complete all downloads before starting the course. Once this has been completed, please open Lynda again and you are now ready to watch the course being taken through the steps and exercises with an instructor. However, if you would prefer to read about the subject, pause the video and click on the Transcript tab.

6 Another feature is the Contents Panel which lists the chapters of each course. As some of the videos are quite long, this enables you to navigate to any section to watch. The running times are also shown here enabling you to plan your time accordingly.

7 Your account To view your account on Lynda, please select you name in top right hand corner. From here you are able to view your history, certificates and any courses that you have saved. Another option under your account is the playlist, this allows you to save any courses that you find so that you are able to watch them in the future. So if something takes your fancy when looking through hit the + sign and it is then saved for your use in the future. Another feature of this site is recommendations, this means if you select your interests, the website will then make suggestions of courses that match your interests. This is especially useful if you want to keep updated with particular skills or work through courses according to their skill level to

8 become an expert. This is an overview of how to start to use Lynda.com, however there are other options and features that allow you to keep notes and more on the site. If you would like to know more then there is a course for using Lynda on the website or feel free to ask.
