6 The Second International Workshop of Glocal Digestive Disease Center in Konkuk University Medical Center The Second International Workshop of Glocal Digestive Disease Center in Konkuk University Medical Center The workshop dealt with a variety of concerns on advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. There was real-time transmission of live demonstration from 8 countries including USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, China, Korea, and India using DVTS via academic network. Professor Gotoda, Uedo and Saurin gave a lecture and live demostration. About three hundred Korean audiences participated in this workshop.

10 Results of Teleconference Using KOREN Network 1. Monthly International Teleconference on KSJ Teleconference / International GI Teleconference Technical points: Much more improved for last one year Echo -> decreased / image -> improved / sound -> improved 2. Endoscopic Teleconference at APAN Screen/Sound was disconnected several times or did not have good quality sometimes during the session. But technical quality was improved compared to last year. Session chair was important in Multi-Site Teleconference: Quality of session management was improved than last year Different Technical Expertise in Different Center: Very Important Results 2012 International Live Workshop of Glocal Digestive Disease Center of KUMC Transmission from UC Irvine, Kyoto 2 nd Red Cross Hospital, National Taiwan University, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, and Peking Union Medical College Hospital, were generally good in quality for both image and sound transmission. One minor thing may be that the room view was a little bad in quality probably due to a camera quality attached in the endoscopic room in UC Irvine. Concerning Chulalongkorn University in Thailand 1. The video stream that they received was captured from the auditorium not a direct stream from the demonstration room, so the quality and sound was suboptimal except the stream from Taiwan that they got a direct stream. 2. They had an accident cut off in the afternoon before the demonstration from India. 3. The level of audible sound was inconsistent, a frequent adjustment is needed.

11 Above all, Team built-up up between medical staffs and engineers for collaboration is very important. Continuous Session Participation Technical support of full participation for the teleconference is necessary so that the remote participants can participated in Q&A through the whole workshop. International cooperation between engineers are important too. Future plan 1. More countries will be added (e.g. GEANT3 for Europe, Internet2 for USA) 2. More channels will be utilized (e.g. ch5, ch6 )
