8 TOURISM Minneapolis, Saint Paul and their neighboring communities make up an inviting metropolitan area with an appealing array of things to see and do. TWINS MLB - Minnesota Twins NHL - Minnesota Wild NFL - Minnesota Vikings NBA - Minnesota Timberwolves 2010 marked the Grand Opening of Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. The new 39,500-seat stadium, located in Downtown Minneapolis, is a modern take on the popular designs of stadiums such as Camden Yards in Baltimore and PNC Park in Pittsburgh. VIKINGS The newly constructed Guthrie Theater, in a spectacular award-winning facility designed by Jean Nouvel, sits along the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. The Saint Paul Winter Carnival, dating back to 1886, operates from late January to early February and is one of the oldest and largest festivals in the nation. 11 EDUCATION There are currently 13 universities and colleges in the Twin Cities area providing both undergraduate and graduate studies. University of Minnesota is the state s largest college system. The main campus is located in Minneapolis, where more than 51,000 students attend class every year; making it the 4th largest American campus by enrollment. It is located 10 from Twin Cities. University of St. Thomas is a liberal arts college based in St. Paul that serves the educational needs of approximately 11,000 students annually. It is located approximately 7 from Twin Cities. Mayo Medical School and University of Minnesota are the only two medical UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA schools in the State. The Twin Cities are home to 4 American Bar Association accredited law schools; Hamline University, University of St. Thomas and William Mitchell College in St. Paul and The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
