Make a difference in your community! Exhibition Prospectus Smithsonian Institution Green Revolution is based on an exhibition originally created by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, and its Black Creativity Council and made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.
What is Green Revolution? With Green Revolution, the title says it all this is a revolutionary way that YOU can be a part of the green solution. We ve minimized our carbon footprint to bring you a completely customizable exhibition. Participating venues license our design and planning files to use as a blueprint to build their very own Green Revolution eco-zibit! Host organizations can minimize their own carbon footprint by using found and repurposed materials to build Green Revolution text panels and interactives. Pioneered at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the research and design are already done. You provide the creativity and the people power to tailor this exhibition precisely for your own space and community! anne e. dyson At the Bob Jones Nature Center in Texas, Boy Scouts helped convert old doors into exhibition panels.
With Green Revolution, adaptation is the name of the game. There are no wooden crates to ship, no gas-guzzling trucks for delivery, and with just a few clicks of a mouse, our GREEN exhibit ideas are yours to customize. We call it our eco-zibit. You ll get the chance to educate visitors by developing content and interactives specifically for the community YOU live in. For example, in Southlake, Texas, the average daily water consumption per capita is 290 gallons. For their version of Green Revolution, the Bob Jones Nature Center displayed this surprising community stat by hanging 300 cleaned gallon milk jugs from a tree. The display was both thought provoking and visually impressive.
How can I start my organization s Green Revolution? Generate power using an array of working windmills and turbines. Build a worm composting center, and plant a community garden. Use the sun s rays to operate a remote-controlled car outfitted with solar panels. Recycle or repurpose used exhibition components and cases by incorporating them into your Green Revolution exhibition fabrication activities. Conserve natural resources and raise awareness in your community by incorporating sustainable building practices. The introductory section of Green Revolution at Chicago s Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) included dozens of green tips for keeping the planet healthy. green tip Bring your own mug to the coffee shop. museum of science and industry, chicago green tip Make your own all-natural household cleaners: Mix vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. An exhibition visitor pedals a stationary bike to power the lights and race cars fitted with solar panels.
Exhibition at a Glance exhibition includes Digital design files, including graphics, banners, and text panels; all files in Adobe Illustrator Floor plans Technical resource and installation guide Complete exhibition script and biographies of green pioneers Educational and promotional resources created with Adobe InDesign size and cost 500 to 5,000 square feet, completely scalable to fit your space $5,000 participation fee for entire exhibition; individual sections can be licensed separately with à la carte pricing Green Revolution includes design files for full-scale exhibition panels like this one about eco-friendly jobs.
Fun computer games make this exhibition especially appealing for school-aged visitors. museum of science and industry, chicago green tip Bring a cloth towel to school or work to cut down on paper towel waste. You ll receive all Green Revolution design files and exhibition content (including the introductory video, fabrication plans, text panels, graphics, and banners) through a passwordprotected account on Google, and we ll walk you through the download and production process. Suggested resource and materials lists, an installation guide, and educational and programming ideas are all included. Flexibility and creativity are key as organizations pick and choose which elements to feature and when to install (and de-install) the exhibition. How much will it cost to fabricate these displays? We encourage hosts of Green Revolution to incorporate recycled materials (like water bottles and used display cases or panels) into the building process. Acquiring donated goods from local retailers is another way of greening your exhibition and saving money. However, if you need to purchase building components, especially for interactives like the wind turbine, estimated materials costs begin at $150. License the entire Green Revolution experience for $5,000, or you may select from these individual components: waste not Many materials that we use everyday can be reused and recycled. Explore the ways you can reduce the amount you throw away and how these materials come back to life. Also includes instructions on how to make recycled paper. $1,500, if licensed separately energy Find out what s so hot (and cool) about solar and wind power. Watch cars, toys, and even a mechanical bug run with solar power. Includes instructions on how to build interactives. $2,500, if licensed separately hybrid house How could you make your home, office, or school greener? An interactive computer game and the Museum of Science and Industry s Smart Home resource list will give you some tips. $1,000, if licensed separately carbon footprint Use a computer interactive to measure your impact on the environment! Create a display showing the results. Also includes the Footprints and Fumes board game as well as information on calculating carbon footprints. $1,000, if licensed separately composting/gardening Take a look inside a worm composting bin and get the dirt on how they turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil for plants. Bonus instructions on how to build a composting display and garden. $1,000, if licensed separately
museum of science and industry, chicago See a sample text panel and fabrication plan from Green Revolution. How do you make a wind turbine out of recycled goods? Museum staff at MSI fabricated one out of a bicycle wheel, plastic plates, and spoons. Whether you invest in one or all components, these added features are always included with every Green Revolution purchase: The exhibition introduction and associated video, text panels, and graphics African-American green pioneers biography text panels and a template biography panel so you can highlight environmental stewards from your community An educational Earth from Space poster set, created by SITES in collaboration with the Smithsonian s National Air and Space Museum and the U.S. Geological Survey, which presents the human impact at the global level and includes science curricula for classroom use on the associated website Programming ideas and resources Public relations support, including sample press release, images, logos, and advice on promoting the exhibition and hosting special events Ability to link to and from the SITES website and social media platforms
Green Revolution is more than an exhibition, it s an event and experience for your entire community. an eco-challenge! Green Revolution is an exhibition that anyone from scout troops and high-school students to museum professionals and volunteers can help build. Whether you re located in a large metropolitan area or on Main Street in rural America, challenge your community to get involved. Put out a call for donated materials or for volunteers to help create the exhibition itself. There s plenty of opportunities for community engagement! Programming ideas abound: hold a contest to determine who can build the greenest display, or have your visitors write their own green tips on a wall covered with brown paper bags. Unlike ordinary traveling exhibitions, which must fit into tight schedules, Green Revolution is flexible! You decide when to install the exhibition, and you decide how long to keep it up. Learn more about why your organization should book today! Worms anyone? A composting table at the Bob Jones Nature Center allowed visitors to get their hands dirty.
Exhibition Collaborators museum of science and industry, chicago Chicago s Museum of Science and Industry, one of the largest science museums in the world, is home to more than 35,000 artifacts and nearly 14 acres of hands-on exhibits designed to spark scientific inquiry and creativity. Our vision is to inspire and motivate our children to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and medicine. smithsonian institution traveling exhibition service SITES has been sharing the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research programs with millions of people outside Washington, DC, for almost 60 years. SITES connects Americans to their shared cultural heritage through a wide range of exhibitions about art, science, and history, which are shown wherever people live, work, and play. To move ahead in the Footprints and Fumes game, players have to go green, replacing lightbulbs with CFL lights, conserving water, etc. how is sites going green? At SITES, we re taking small but meaningful steps to reduce our own carbon footprint. We re providing resource materials online instead of in bulky notebooks, and some of our exhibitions replaced heavy text panels with vinyl lettering, applied directly to the walls. This means less material to fabricate, less to crate, and less to ship. Check out a recent blog post about our GREEN initiatives, and Like our Facebook page. Never booked a SITES exhibition? Here s what others are saying about the SITES exhibition experience!
