4 Logging on to the Activity Maker requires a user name and password. Enter the User name and password in the Sign in input box and click the Log In button If you do not have a username and password, or forgot your user name and password, Please info@fourieredu.com The My Activities is an overview of all the activities saved to the account that is logged in. Activity Maker will open to this view by default each time you log on.

5 The My Activities area will show all the activities saved in your account in thumbnail form. Each Activity will show the Title, Date Saved, Status, and Category. To open an activity, simply click the activity thumbnail and it will open in the Activity Maker workspace. The logout button will log you out of the Activity Maker software. The Create a new activity button will create a new Activity NOTE: The Create a new activity button will automatically open the Activity Maker Workspace

6 The Activity Maker is setup in 6 areas Slide Browser Update Button Main Toolbar Content Toolbar Stage Weight Indication Bar Each of these areas will be described later in the documentation Slide Browser Main Toolbar Content Toolbar Stage Update Button Weight Indication Bar The Slide Browser lets you control each slide, select the slide to work on, and create new slides. New Slide Creates a new slide in the project Preview Preview the Activity. Will give you a sense of how the Activity will look on a tablet. Slide Thumbnail Shows a thumbnail of each slide in the project. Note the thumbnails will only appear once you have clicked the Update Slide button. Slide notification bar Shows the current slide number in the Stage Shows the total number of slides in the project

7 Clicking the New Slide button will add new slides to the project. Each slide added is numbered and added to the Slide Browser. Note: A new slide will always be added after the slide appearing in the Stage. EXAMPLE: If Slide 3 is on the Stage and you click New Slide, a new slide will appear as slide 4. Clicking the Preview button tablet. will allow you to preview the slide as it would be viewed on a Preview mode will show the Activity slide by slide in a window. The preview area is setup in 3 areas: Preview Toolbar Preview Thumbnails Slide Preview

8 The preview toolbar shows the current slide you are viewing in the Slide preview area and has the Close Preview button to exit out of the preview window. Click the X button to exit out of the preview window The preview Thumbnails is a quick overview look of each slide in the project. In this section you can click directly on the thumbnail to view the slide in the Slide Preview window or use the left and right arrow keys to go to the previous or next slide. Note: The preview thumbnail area can only show 3 thumbnails at a time The Slide Preview window shows the selected slide of the project. In this view the slide is fully functional and allows you to interact with it. Use the Next button slide in the project. to move to the next Note: In Preview mode, no edits or changes can be made to the activity

9 Each slide added to the current Activity Maker project will be shown. Each slide also shows a trash icon Click the trash icon and a confirmation window will appear with a prompt to confirm delete Click the checkmark to save and the X button to cancel Each slide also shows a Duplicate Slide icon Click the Duplicate Slide icon to duplicate the slide that in currently on the Stage. The new slide will appear directly under the duplicated slide.

10 The Update Slide button in the Slide toolbar will update the thumbnail to match the Slide as it appears on the stage (and as it will appear in the Activity). The Thumbnail Slide has not been updated and shows as blank Slide Workspace Area Press the Update Slide button and the slide thumbnail will update to match the slide work area as seen below NOTE: The Update Slide button will only update the current slide. It is not possible to update all the slides at once

11 New Activity Creates a new activity Save Activity Saves the current activity Publish Activity Publishes the activity to the Einstein store Back to My Activities Goes to the overview of all activities saved Activity Details Shows the overview of the activity User Details Shows the User information menu Use the New Activity button activity to create a new Activity Maker will prompt you to save the current Activity Click the checkmark Click the X button to save to close without saving

12 Use the Save Activity button to save the current activity This will save the Activity to the current account you are logged on as. The first time you Save your Activity, you will be prompted to enter you Activity Details. These details must be filled out before saving the activity. Note: This will not save any files to your local computer. All data is saved within the Activity Maker account Note: To access all saved activities, go to the My Activities Window by clicking on the open button in the main menu. For further instructions on Activity Details, go to the Activity Details section on page 11. Use the Publish Activity button to submit your Activity to the einstein Store The content of your Activity will be reviewed by an einstein Store Manager and, if it is approved, it will be added to the einstein Store. Activity Details must be filled out before publishing the activity. If the Activity Details have not been filled in, Activity maker will show the Activity Details window. Note: The review and approval process per activity may take up to two weeks to complete Use the Open button activities. to go back to the My Activities screen where you can access all your saved

13 Activity details provide overview of the Activity to anyone browsing the einstein Store. The Activity details include: Display in Store check box Title Description Category menu Thumbnails If you want your Activity to be shown in the einstein Store for others to download, make sure to click the Display in Store checkbox. Note: Display in Store must be checked the first time the Activity is saved, otherwise the Activity will not be able to properly be sent for review and published. Add the Title of the activity in the Activity Name input box. Add an overview of the Activity. Choose a category the Activity should be grouped with. Note: If the Activity does not exactly fit the listed categories, select the category that is the best fit

14 Adding thumbnails lets others preview the Activity if it is displayed in the einstein Store. This also allows a general overview of the Activity and its contents. Enter a title for each thumbnail slide Enter a short description of the thumbnail slide Click the Browse button to select an image file. When clicking the browse button, an open file box will appear. Navigate to the file location and select it, the click Open The Thumbnail window will now show the image selected

15 To delete the Thumbnail or select a different one, place the mouse over the thumbnail image and a trash can icon will appear. Each slide also shows a trash icon Click the trash icon and a confirmation window will appear with a prompt to confirm delete. Click the checkmark to save and the X button to cancel Clicking the User Details will show the User information menu Logout Logout or exit out of the Activity Maker. Back to my Activities Takes you to the My Activities screen where you can access all saved activities. To logout of the Activity Maker, click the User Details button to show the User Details menu and then choose Logout

16 If the current project has not been saved, Activity Maker will prompt to save the project. Click the checkmark to save. Click the X button to close without saving Takes you to the My Activities screen where you can access all saved activities. Note: This button has the same functionality as the Open button in the main toolbar The content toolbar includes various content elements you can insert into your Activity. Text Box Add a Text Box to the Activity Shapes Add a shape to the Activity. When clicking the Shapes button, a sub menu will appear allowing the choices of different shapes such as rectangle, circle, triangle, arrow, and speech bubble. Please see the Shapes section for more information

17 Picture Add a picture to the Activity Background Change the background color of the slide Audio Add an audio clip to the Activity Video Add a video clip to the Activity When clicking the Video button, a sub menu will appear allowing a choice between embedding a video from YouTube and uploading a video from your computer Add a Sensor Graph to the Activity When clicking the Sensor Graph button, a sub menu will appear allowing the choices of different graphs such as Bar Graph and Line Graph Please see the Sensor Graph section for more information A Content add-on can be any type of content added to the slide weather it is a Text box, Graph, or Audio clip. Each add-on had its own set of controls that allow it to edit, move and resize that add-on. To activate a content add-on, place your mouse over the content add-on and the cursor will change to two double arrow markers. Left Click to activate the add-on.

18 To move a content add-on, activate the Add-on; Now hold down the left mouse button. Drag the content add-on to the desired location. Once the add-on is at the desired location, release the left mouse button. To resize a content add-on (make it smaller or bigger), start activating the Add-on; Now place your mouse over the content add-on 's borders or corners and the cursor will change to a double arrow. Left Click and hold down the mouse button. Now drag the content add-on to the desired size. Move the add-on up and down Move the add-on left and right Move the add-on in any direction By using the control buttons within each add-on in the slide, more options can be accessed Add-on Edit Button Exit add-on edit mode By Clicking on the Add-on Edit Button, an options menu will appear. Each add-on may have different options available Edit Text Opens the text editor window

19 Color Fill Fill the current content of the window with the color of choice Order Select the order of the window to bring the window in front of or in back of other windows Save Text To save the changes made to the text in the window before exiting the window edit mode Rotate Rotate the contents of the window in a counterclockwise direction Delete Delete the window and all its contents The Edit Text button will appear only when working with Text in the Text Add-on and in the Speech Bubble Shape Add-on A text box editor window will appear in the slide. Here you can change the size, color, and style of the text. Click the Checkmark button save the changes Click the X button to discard changes and exit the text editor window Note: It is recommended that each text box includes only a single font size to

20 Choose Color Fill will appear and the Color Fill window Select the current color can be done in 4 different ways. Type in the color hex directly Manually type in the Red, Green, Blue OR Hue Saturation, and Brightness Drag the color bar using the mouse to reach the desired color Drag the circle on the color palette to reach the desired color Click the Checkmark button to save the changes, and the X button to discard changes and exit the background color selection window Select an Add-on and click on the Windows Control Button to show the add-on edit menu.

21 When selecting the order button, a submenu will appear When two or more windows overlap, one window will appear to be in front of the other. By using the order button, one or more windows can be set to be in front or in back of the other windows. In the this example, the text window with the words Einstein Activity Maker is in front of the window with the orange square. By selecting the order button the text window control button choosing send to back, and on the text window is now in the back of the window with the orange square. To delete an Add-on, select any created add-on and click on the Add-on Edit Button to show the add-on control menu. Click the Delete button to delete the current window. CAUTION: By deleting a window the contents cannot be restored. The data will be permanently deleted. There is no UNDO button!

22 Click the Text box button allows you to add a text box to the Slide Click the Shapes button the shapes toolbar. to add a shape to the Slide. The shape button will then open to show Rectangle Add a Rectangle shape to the Activity. Circle Add a Circle shape to the Activity. Triangle Add a Triangle shape to the Activity. Arrow Add an Arrow shape to the Activity. Speech Bubble Add a Speech Bubble shape to the Activity.

23 In this example all types of shapes have been added to the slide. Each shape is shown in a window The rotate button will appear only when working with Arrows and Speech Bubbles Select a Shape Add-on and click on the Add-on Edit Button to show the add-on edit menu. Each time the rotate button is selected, the content in the window will rotate 5 degrees in the direction of the arrow (counterclockwise) The Save Text button will appear only when working with Speech Bubble Clicking it will save all changes made to the text in the speech bubble. You can now click the X control button editing of the window to exit

24 Click the Picture button to add a picture from a file off your computer When clicking on the Picture button an open file box will appear. Navigate to the file location and select it, the click Open NOTE: The open dialog box will show all file types. Only PNG files types (Portable Network Graphics) are supported to use with Activity Maker. The selected picture will appear in a new picture window Click the background button slide to change the background color of the When clicking on the background button an background color selection window will appear. Selecting a color is done similarly to selecting a Fill Color, see page 18.

25 Click the audio button from your computer to add an audio clip When clicking on the audio button an open file box will appear. Navigate to the file location and select it, the click Open Note: The open dialog box will show all file types. Only MP3 files types (MPEG Audio Layer III) are supported to use with Activity Maker. The selected audio clip will appear in a new audio window Play/Pause Button Plays or paused the audio file When the audio clip is playing, the Play button will change to a pause button. Progress Bar Shows the current location in the audio clip with a progress bar and a time in seconds Note: If the audio clip is not playing and is at the start of the clip, the time reflects the total length of the audio clip. Volume Slider Increase or decrease volume by dragging the slider to the right or left. When the volume slider is all the way to the right, this represents 100% volume. When the volume slider is all the way to the left, this represents 0% volume.

26 Note: The audio add-on control bar will resize with the audio add-on. This can cause the progress bar and volume bar to change size Do not use any other file type besides those of MP3 format. Other formats will cause the Activity Maker Software to become unstable For best results use (64kbps 160 kpbs) encoded MP3 files When adding audio files, make sure not to use copyrighted material Total project size cannot exceed 50 megabytes. Please make sure to check the size of the audio files before you add to the project Click the Video button video toolbar. to add a video clip to the Slide. Clicking the Video button will open the Embed Video Link video from YouTube Upload Video Upload video from your computer to Activity Maker

27 Step 1: Get the video link To copy a YouTube Link, go to YouTube s website and open the video you want to get the link to Once the video is open, Right Click the mouse and you will get a pop up menu from your Web browser Click the Copy video URL button to copy the video link Note: Your web browser may have a slightly different pop up menu Example link: detailpage&v=m2356u23yr52raare4s3g4y572tk Note: This is not a real link to a YouTube video, this is just an example of how it will look Step 2: Use the embed video button in Activity Maker Click the embed video button video from a YouTube site. to link a Once the embed video button is clicked, a video link window will appear with and input box Step 3: Paste the video link into the video link window In Activity Makers video link window right click the mouse to bring up a pop up window. Choose paste to copy the video link. Click the Checkmark button changes to save the

29 The selected video link will appear in a new video window. You will be able to preview the link directly in the window by clicking the play button Video Window Controls Play/Pause Button Plays or paused the audio file When the audio clip is playing, the Play button will change to a pause button. 30 Note: The video windows control bar will resize with the video window. This can cause the progress bar and volume bar to change size Only one video can be added to each slide. A project can have more than one video, but each slide can only have one. When trying to add more than one video per slide, a Warning box will appear Clicking the Checkmark button will exit the warning box and the will not add the selected video to the workspace area Do not use any other file type besides those of MP4 format (H264 codec only). 32 Sensors Use the down arrow in the graph. to select the sensor used Note: The Units will automatically change with the sensor chosen. Adding more than one sensor (Line Graph only) Once a Sensor is selected, you can add another sensor by click on Add sensor Use the X button needed to delete a sensor if it is not Note: A maximum of 2 sensors is allowed.

33 Title Window In the Title Window, type the title of the graph If using one sensor you will have a title window for the Y-Axis If using more than one sensor you will have a title window for the left and right Y-Axis Sensors The sensors chosen in the General Tab will appear here. If using one sensor you will see the sensor listed to be shown on the Y-axis If using more than one sensor you will see both sensors listed for each Left and Right Y-Axis

34 The checkboxes show the sensors Left or Right Y-axis Range The Y-axis range can be set from automatic to manual. When in automatic mode, the range on the Y-axis will change to fit the data as it is logging. When set to manual mode, the Y-axis range will not change. To set to manual mode, click the radio button and manually change the values using the drop down arrow Note: The range is set to automatic by default If using more than one sensor you will see both ranges listed for each Left and Right Y-Axis

35 Title Window In the Title Window, type the title of the graph Time Format Set the Time format using the drop down arrow

36 Duration Set the duration of the experiment using the drop down arrow Note: If you changed the time format, you must also open the Duration drop down and select a new duration Title Window In the Title Window, type the title of the graph Prediction Prediction allows you to predict the Y variable for a specified value. When the box is not checked, prediction is disabled When the box is checked, prediction is enabled Note: Prediction is disabled by default

37 Sampling Rate Set the sampling rate of the experiment using the drop down arrow The Duration is greyed out and cannot be changed in the Sample tab. The duration can only be set in the X-axis tab The Number of samples will update with the sampling rate and duration chosen Note: The default sample rate is 10 samples per second

38 Changing the Color of the Graph Lines In the Y-axis or X-axis tabs in the graph setup window, you can change the color of the graph sensor lines or bars Next to the sensor selected, you will see a colored box. Click the box to change the color. When clicking on the colored box, a color selection window will appear. For details regarding color selection, please see Color Fill section on page 18. After finishing the Graph Setup window for either the Line graph or Bar Graph, click the check button to complete the Graph setup and add the graph to the Slide Below are examples of the Bar graph and Line graph added to the slide. Each graph will appear in its own window.
