1 PARK VIEW PTC Meeting Minutes 01/26/2016 CALL TO ORDER President Megan Rafferty-Flatter called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm and was seconded by Tiffany Crawford. Approval of November 12, 2015 meeting minutes: A motion to approve the minutes was made by Megan Rafferty-Flatter and was seconded by Anne Lange. ATTENDANCE: Anne Lange, Autumn Usalis, Tiffany Crawford, Uzma Muneer, Rick Nevious, Mrs. Beth Powers, Dr. John Perdue, Mrs. Peterson, and Teacher Representative Sara Nemeth. GUEST SPEAKERS: Mrs. Beth Powers o Down to 1 candidate, very hard decision o Will announce at February 8 th meeting o Transition process will take place o Official first day will be July 1 st, 2016 Dr. John Perdue o Science Integration Process Life Science was one of the primary reasons the school day was lengthened 15 MAC air computers will be purchased for the school The dreams of the future would be a science classroom in each building and science teachers hired to teach the students o Lowest property taxes amongst all the Glenbards o Enrollment is up for all the school districts PRINCIPAL REPORT Mrs. Peterson reported: Mid Year assessment completed this week o Kindergarteners took MAP assessment and data will come home this week

2 o Teaching math for 60 minutes per day in all day kindergarten o PARCC 1 test completed in April school completed as a whole very well Trivia night projects are coming along beautifully The Poet was amazing The Lemonade War Author Jacqueline Davies is coming to performance 3/18/2016 FACULTY REPORT Teacher representative Mrs. Sara Nemeth reported: Kindergarten: Students are focusing on Poetry and Narrative and Opinion writing. We are all excited to celebrate the 100th day of school next week! 1 st Grade: First graders finished up a writing workshop unit on Personal Narratives and just started their next unit on Nonfiction all about books. This will tie in nicely since they just started our new science (life science) unit on animals and plants. The children seem very excited about starting these new topics Grade 2: 2 nd grade has been working on letter writing and learning about the continents. Grade 3: 3 rd grade is currently learning ways that plants and animals become endangered and extinct as part of the NGSS in Life Science. The students will be working in groups to complete a presentation on an endangered species and how to preserve the species. They will use technology and other resources to collect their information and then create a poster. The groups will present their poster and findings to the class. Grade 4: 4th grade is working very hard on large number multiplication. They will be starting their new Life Science unit that aligns to NGSS. Grade 5: 5 th grade is currently working with fractions in Math. They are learning to compare/contrast characters and themes. Students are also learning about the Revolutionary War. 4th and 5th grade LAH: Students are reading the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night and will see it in April at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Art: Kindergarten just finished creating an illuminated first letter of their first name. First graders are working on a still life collage inspired by Henri

3 Matisse. Second through fifth are celebrating Black History Month by making Black American Hero Trading Cards. Ask 'em about their heroes! Music: K-2 is beginning to expand on basic music concepts such as rhythm, pitch, and instrument technique. 3rd grade has been focusing on learning the treble clef notes in preparation for starting recorders next month. 4th grade is practicing reading notes and more difficult rhythms through recorder practice. 5th grade just started a ukulele ensemble project in which they will work with a small group to prepare a song that they will perform for their peers in a couple of weeks. Chorus is busy preparing music for the district 89 choral festival in March, where they will perform some pieces with the other elementary schools, middle school and high school! P.E.: 4th grade has just completed a basketball unit in PE. They will be starting a short unit of games designed to teach the cardiovascular system. 1st grade just completed a bouncing, shooting unit. They will also be playing cardiovascular games. OFFICERS REPORTS President Megan Rafferty-Flatter reported: o Registration for school year On-line registration will be open to new students and kindergarten starting February 17 After spring break the rest of students can register o Walking/Running Club Westfield is piloting this program Using charms for each mile you walk/run Co-Vice Presidents Nia Esposito and Rhonda Nevious had nothing to report at this meeting. Treasurer Nia Esposito had nothing to report at this meeting. Secretary Jennifer Ledet had nothing to report at this meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS Donuts for Dad (Planning) o Flyers went home o 2/5 and 2/19 from 8:00-8:30

4 Panther Pride Fest (Planning) o The event is coming along nicely o Sent an for volunteers need a ton more o Have a lead for a photo booth o Room assignments for games Cake Walk, ER room, dance room, photo booth Square 1 Art (Planning) o The artwork has been shipped to the company o 461 students participated o Orders due by February 26, 2016 o Orders will be delivered to school by mid March Family Fitness Night (Planning) o March 18, 2016 at 6-7:30 pm o Health Track o Bring your bicycle in for a tune up o Reserve 22 for gift cards Trivia Night (Planning) o Only 3 tables left o MC are awesome o Music planned o Picture slide show will run for 2-3 minutes Pasta Dinner (Results) o 93 pre-paid o 11 walk in o Later date in January would be ideal o $300 profit o 5:30-6:30 to eat, then 6:30-7:30 for literacy night Bake Sale o $218 profit o Lauren Miller will be taking over for upcoming school year

5 Pancake Breakfast (Results) o Had almost 400 students attend, most in recent years o Used same budget as last year o $835 profit o Jen Ledet and Nicole Krebs will be the chairs for next OLD BUSINESS Multiple chair retirements for school year Board position replacements August 15 or 16 th for the 5 th grade meet and greet at Glen Crest o The principal is on board o Amazing Race Theme o Volunteers all set o Will let the school know if we need anything else NEW BUSINESS Nominating Committee No PTC meeting February 25 th PTC meeting March 10 th at 7 pm ANNOUNCEMENTS There will be NO SCHOOL November 8, 2016 due to voting for elections, but we will have school November 11, 2016 ADJOURNMENT President Megan Rafferty-Flatter called the meeting to end at 8:16 pm and was seconded by Rick Nevious.
