MANOR PRIMARY SCHOOL MANOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Learning Together, Achieving Our Best

Welcome to Manor Primary School Our school was built in 1973 and is situated in the heart of Ivybridge. We benefit from spacious, modern buildings and a beautiful and varied outdoor environment, including a heated outdoor swimming pool, covered play area and a wildlife garden complete with pond! Our school is a very special place. We pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and our absolute commitment to meeting the needs of every child. Our aim is to personalise learning so that all are enabled to succeed to their fullest potential, regardless of background, ability or need. Our motto Learning Together, Achieving Our Best lies at the heart of all we do. Our governors, senior leaders, teachers and support staff are fully committed to ensuring the highest quality learning environment and experiences for our children. I hope that this prospectus will give you a flavour of what Manor School can offer and would be delighted for you to visit us in order to find out more. Mrs K Dixon (Headteacher) Our vision is to create a school community where children grow into happy, confident and responsible individuals, who work hard together to achieve their full potential. The nurture, care and support systems provided by all staff benefit all pupils Ofsted December 2013

Starting School Starting school is a momentous time for any child! In order to provide a secure transition, we have a comprehensive programme of induction opportunities for you and your child to take part in. This includes a number of afternoon visits, a Welcome Meeting, a chance to come in and enjoy lunch together and a Teddy Bears Picnic! We have close links both with Manor Pre-School, which is on site, and other local Early Years providers. By the time they start in Foundation, our children are already very familiar with the staff and the environment in which they will be learning. Pupils behave well in their classes, at break times and around the school. Pupils are polite, friendly and courteous to visitors Ofsted December 2013 Behaviour Policy and House System We have high expectations with regards to behaviour - we teach and encourage children to take responsibility for their conduct and their learning behaviour, and to follow our three school rules at all times Be friendly, caring and polite to others Take good care of everyone and everything Always try our best Our Behaviour Policy has a clear system of sanctions and rewards which is used fairly and consistently. Each child is a member of a House Oak, Sycamore, Willow or Beech. Good behaviour is rewarded with House Points, which accumulate towards both individual and team rewards. When children have achieved 100 House Points, their parents are invited in to assembly to see them receive their very special Golden Certificate!

Curriculum At Manor, we place a strong emphasis on providing a solid foundation in reading, writing and maths. This includes the teaching of basic skills such as handwriting, spelling and times tables which are taught daily and tracked carefully to ensure they are embedded. This foundation is then built upon with a rich, dynamic and exciting range of learning opportunities. This takes the form of a topic approach, whereby children develop skills in all areas of learning through termly topics such as Viking Raiders, Jungle Explorers and Food and Farming. In order to ensure that children are making good progress we set challenging targets for every individual child. We have regular Pupil Progress Meetings at least half-termly for all children and for some children as often as weekly. At these meetings, we discuss the child s current attainment and progress, and agree on actions to take if they are not on track to meet their targets. Parents are informed where this is the case, and involved in the process of providing support. This rigorous approach ensures that no child is able to slip through the net. Learning outdoors A strong focus is put on outside activities and visits which extend pupils experiences. Ofsted December 2013 Learning outdoors and developing active, healthy lifestyles are important elements of our ethos. We are lucky to have a beautiful outdoor environment which supports this and we also make full use of our local area, with frequent outings into the town, Longtimber Woods, the River Erme, and Henlake Down. The curriculum is effectively planned to provide an enjoyable range of topics and activities which enhance pupils learning Ofsted December 2013

Sport We take part in a wide range of sports and offer opportunities for all children, both through curricular and extra-curricular activities. We participate in a comprehensive programme of local school events and are well-known for our significant success in competition across a variety of sports. We also provide a range of non-competitive opportunities for children, including dodgeball, multi-skills and dance. Our aim is to support all children in developing active, healthy lifestyles - and there really is something for everyone! Enrichment and Clubs Every Friday, all the children from Years 1-6 take part in Enrichment Afternoon. Each half-term, they choose a new activity and join a mixed age group to enjoy pursuits such as cookery, art, bushcraft, book-making and local walks. The activities are designed to be fun and exciting whilst also equipping children with a wider range of life skills, and it is always a great way to round off the week! We also offer a range of extra-curricular clubs which take place at lunchtimes and after school on different days of the week. These include a range of sports clubs, drama, art, gardening, choir and ICT.

Trips and Residentials Our curriculum is enhanced through a wide variety of school trips and residential visits which give children a broader perspective and some wonderful memories! Most children will have a school trip each term to support the topic they are studying in class for example, when studying The Jurassic Coast, Years 5 and 6 visit the fossil beaches of Dorset. We currently run an overnight residential trip for Year 4 children to Embercombe, near Exeter, and our Year 6 children enjoy a week s stay at Heatree Activity Centre on Dartmoor. Breakfast Club Breakfast Club provides an affordable, early drop-off childcare facility for parents and carers. It is available for pupils from Foundation to Year 6 and during the year prior to which they are due to start school. Breakfast Club is open from 7.45 am 8:45 am. It provides a welcoming, safe and secure environment for pupils to enjoy before the beginning of the school day, with a nutritious breakfast in a pleasant, calm and relaxed atmosphere. The Club also provides a range of structured play activities, enabling them to engage and learn with children from other year groups. An After-School Club is provided by the on-site Pre-School.

School Meals Our catering service is run by Norse Catering - meals are cooked on site and we are proud of their nutritional value and excellent quality. The children sit in the same place each day with a group of friends, combining school dinners and packed lunches. We encourage this to be a sociable and enjoyable occasion whilst also placing a strong emphasis on the importance of good table manners.
