We d like to welcome back all the students and staff and extend a warm welcome to new students and staff. Madison Junior High is a GREAT school and we are excited about the coming year. Students always need to check in and out of the office if they are coming late or leaving early. Parents need to call the office to pick up their child for any reason. If a child is sick, please call early in the morning to excuse them. We collect homework only when the student has been sick for 2 or more days, but please call early because teachers do homework requests during their prep.

3 Parking and Drop Off Many of you have no doubt experienced the recent parking and loading/drop off procedures at the school. Fire safety regulations requires these rules. For the safety of everyone, please take a moment to review and understand these procedures. Please do NOT drive down the main road in front of the school, it is closed to general traffic. It is for emergency vehicles and handicap buses only. S No cars should be driving, parking or waiting in the lane along the front of the school. The correct procedure is to drive along the west road to the parking lot entrance. The south side of the parking lot has been converted into two driving lanes. These lanes should be used for dropping off and picking up students. There should be no parking in these lanes at any time. They are for immediate loading/ unloading purposes. There are two entrances on the West side, one exit on the NE corner and one exit on the West side.

4 School Information Dress Code Review These items may not be worn: Hats, caps, head scarves, or hair nets. Halter-tops, tube-tops, tank-tops, backless-tops, tops with thin or no straps. Shirts or tops that are sleeveless or muscle shirts, see through or fish net, low cut, or half shirts. Clothing that is deemed to be too tight. Shirts with any offensive or obscene symbols, slogans or words. Sunglasses may not be worn inside the building. Any clothing that has excessive holes or rips. Clothing traditionally worn as under garments, such as boxer shorts, may not be worn as outer garments. Areas normally covered by under garments may not be exposed, including under garments being visible. No leggings with short skirts. No pajama bottoms and slippers. We are pleased to announce that the second year of the after school program at Madison Jr. High is well under way. This year we will have five different sessions with new enrichment classes offered each session. We are currently in our first session of after school and we are offering the following classes: Long Boarding Woodworking (Make your own long board) Small Engine Repair Tennis Camp Web Design After School Program Super Snacks (Our cooking class this session) Rockets Sports Camp Circle of Life (An ecology class) Arts & Crafts Photography Mind Games Outdoor Games Our homework segment is 40 minutes this year and we will be providing learning activities during this time for those students who have homework done. We still provide early morning (7:30-8:30) math tutoring from Mr. Fujimoto with the option of breakfast (lunch status applies) and ping pong 30 minutes before school starts. You are welcome to join us anytime, although some of our classes require consistent attendance to finish projects. Registration forms are available in the library and the office. Our second session will start the first week of November and we will have new classes. Some of the classes that will be offered during that session will be: Spanish Auto Mechanics I Sign Language Keyboarding Modern Dance We are in the beginning stages of planning and finalizing for this session so watch for the new registration forms coming out the middle of October. 5 PTO Information Dear Parents & Students at MJH, Cooler days are here, school is well under way for the year, and the MJH PTO is off to a great start. During registration we had so many volunteers sign up to help on our various committees that we ran out of spaces on some sheets. We also collected over $200 thanks to the generous donations of many. Thank you, thank you for your willingness to assist in the great work of educating our students. Some of the highlights ahead for this year include the second annual lock-in party in mid-march and the Bobcat Dash (a 5K, 3K and Fun Run) to be held in early May. We are also looking forward to donating supplies to various classrooms through our Teacher Grant program. If you have any ideas for things that may help the school, please contact either the office staff or a PTO member. You are also welcome to attend any of our PTO meetings. They are held near the beginning of each month. Our next meeting is October 8th at 9:30 am in the office conference room. Please send your old inkjet or laser cartridges to school. There is a box in the front lobby by the office where these items can be dropped off. CFK (Cartridges for Kids) is a recycling program that pays schools cash for cell phones, laser and inkjet cartridges, laptops, MP3s, PDAs and tablets/ereaders/ notebooks.
