1 SECTION ELECTRIC CHAIN HOIST PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION A. Scope: This document specifies Electric Chain Hoist equipment. B. Hoist Summary Hoist #1: Capacity: 3 tons Height of lift: 50 ft. Hoist speed (two speed): 16/4 fpm Trolley speed: 80/20 fpm Voltage: 460V, 3Ph., 60Hz Motor: 2.8/0.75 HP C. Work includes the following: 1. Detailed design of completed system, including hoists, cabling, controls, and all appurtenances specified hereinafter. 2. Shop drawings. 3. Inspection and shop testing. 4. Documentation and schedules. D. Quality Assurance 1. Contractor shall adhere to OSHA, state, and local safety guidelines, laws, rules, and regulations. B. Contractor shall conform to all applicable ANSI and HMI specifications and/or standards. 1.5 WARRANTIES Provide two-year hoist warranty. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS A. Hoists shall be R&M LoadMate electric chain hoist, or approved equal. 2.2 MATERIALS ELECTRIC CHAIN HOIST

3 Components Hooks Hoist body Load Chain Material 316 Stainless Steel Pressure-cast aluminum Grade: 316L Stainless Steel 2.3 EQUIPMENT A. Hoist 1. System shall utilize the LoadMate electric chain hoist as manufactured by R&M Materials Handling Inc., Springfield, OH, or approved equal. 2. The hoists shall be designed for outdoor use where the ambient temperature is between 14 F and 104 F, elevation is less than 3280 ft and the relative humidity is less than 90%. 3. The hoist shall have a durable polymer control enclosure with IP55 / Nema 4X type protection rating. 4. The hoist nameplate shall carry an enclosure protection rating of NEMA 4X type and have a CSA c/us rating. 5. The sound intensity level of the hoist in the assumed operating location shall not exceed 75 db. 6. The hoist body is to be constructed of durable pressure-cast aluminum for light weight and easy handling. 7. Hoist gearing shall be a minimum AGMA quality class 10. Gearing shall be lubricated with semi-fluid grease or oil and shall be sealed. 8. The type of paint for the hoist shall be a non-reflecting matte black, powdered epoxy where the paint thickness is 70 to 100 microns. Before the paint is applied, the surface must be degreased. 9. The hoist shall be equipped with electro-zinc plated load chain specially designed for chain hoist use. The weld on the chain shall face towards the load sprocket of the hoist. 10. The hoist shall be equipped with a load sprocket (or load wheel) with a minimum of five precision-machined chain pockets providing exceptionally smooth lifting and reduced chain wear. 11. The hoist shall be equipped with a chain container resistant to oil and dirt and that completely encloses the chain exit area of the hoist. 12. The hoist shall be equipped with upper / lower limit switches for over-travel protection. The limit switches are to be load block or chain-stop activated when the hook reaches the top or bottom limit of travel. A slip clutch that also serves as a safety device for overtravel protection if the limit fails due to phase reversal shall be included. ELECTRIC CHAIN HOIST

4 Note: The upper and lower limit switches are not to be used as automatic stops during normal operation of the hoists. 13. The hoist shall be equipped with a chain stop assembly attached to the load chain to reduce the possibility of the dead end of the load chain from running out of the hoist. 14. The standard load hook shall be forged alloy steel (34CrMo4 or StE355). The hook is to be equipped with a spring-loaded safety latch and supported on a thrust bearing to allow the hook to rotate 360 easily even under load. 15. Capacity plates shall be affixed to each side of the block and to the hoist body clearly identifying the rated capacity of the hoist. 16. The hoist shall be equipped with a combined torque-limiting device and motor brake. Both must be easily adjustable without opening the hoist gearcase. The friction materials for the brake and the torque-limiting device shall be asbestos free. The hoist motor shall be equipped with a D.C. electromagnetic disc brake to bring the load to a smooth and quick stop and to hold the load when the hoist motor is not energized. The hoist shall be equipped with a torque-limiting device that shall prevent lifting of excessive loads (more than 125% of rated capacity), which could damage the hoist and/or the supporting structural members, and provide over-travel protection. 17. A lower chain guide and one-piece internal chain guide are to be provided to help guide and hold the load chain in the pockets of the load wheel for safe operation and to prevent jamming. Both should be easily removable for inspection. 18. The hoist shall have a round cable gland for power connection and shall accept a cable diameter from 5/16 to 5/ Hoisting motor shall be totally enclosed with IP55 protection, minimum class F insulation, Klixon type bimetal switch for thermal protection and shall have a 50% ED rating. 20. Hoisting motor shall be two-speed/two winding squirrel cage type with a speed ratio of 4: The hoist shall be equipped with a two-speed motorized trolley (80/20 fpm) attached to the hoist body with a coupling or lug connection. The two-speed motorized trolley shall be equipped with crown tread wheels for use on standard I-beams and wide flange W- beams. Safety drop lugs, rubber bumpers & a trolley motor brake shall be included. 22. The hoist shall be equipped with a plug-in pendant with appropriate drop for lift of hoist. Pendant station enclosure shall have a rating of NEMA 4X. P/B station to include emergency red mushroom stop button - push to maintain, turn to release, two buttons for hoist motion one for each direction of travel, and two buttons for trolley motion one for each direction of travel. 5 PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION AND INSPECTION A. Inspect system for conformance with reviewed shop drawings and contract documents prior to installation of equipment. Bring nonconforming work to the attention of the Owner prior to proceeding with installation. Non-conforming installation must be corrected prior to testing of system and shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. B. Provide all necessary accessories to make the system complete, usable, and capable of meeting the operating requirements specified in the Operating Requirements. Test, adjust and clean equipment for acceptance by Owner. 3.2 TESTING A. All hoist equipment shall be operated through a complete lift and lowering cycle to determine that the equipment shall perform smoothly and safely. Any defects shall be corrected by the hoist provider without any expense to the Owner. 3.3 USE BY CONTRACTOR A. If the hoist is used by the Contractor, it shall be repaired, repainted, and otherwise refurbished to like new condition prior to its acceptance. The Contractor assumes all responsibility for operation and maintenance until the system has been accepted by Owner. 3.4 CLEANUP A. Upon completion of work, area shall be cleaned and restored to original condition, acceptable to the Owner. END OF SECTION ELECTRIC CHAIN HOIST

7 Overhead and Gantry Cranes. 1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: A. Crane shall consist of free standing mast requiring only foundation support and a rotating boom. 1. Rotation: a. Primary boom: 360 degrees. 2. Crane shall be designed for minimum effort manual rotation. 3. Boom shall not drift when at rest. 4. Maximum deflection at boom end: 1/150 span based on capacity plus 15 percent for hoist and trolley weight. B. Crane shall be designed to withstand: 1.4 SUBMITTALS: 1. Crane and hoist dead load. 2. Live load capacity equal to net rated hook load: 3 tons 3. Inertia forces from crane and load movement. 4. Wind load: N/A 5. Thermal load: N/A 6. Snow live load: N/A 7. Seismic load for N/A seismic zone. A. Provide in accordance with COS Standard Specifications, Section 104 Control Of Work: 1. Product data for crane and accessories. Describe capacities, performance, operation, and applied forces to foundation. 2. Shop drawings showing crane configuration, dimensions, and construction and installation details. 3. Copy of warranty required for review by Engineer. 4. Manufacturer's installation instructions. 5. Manufacturer's operation and maintenance manual. FREE STANDING JIB CRANE

8 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in designing and manufacturing cranes with 25 years successful experience. B. Installer: Company experienced in assembly and installation of cranes with 5 years successful experience and acceptable to crane manufacturer. C. Crane shall be designed, fabricated, and installed in accordance with ANSI B30.11 and OSHA D. Base crane structural design on live load capacity plus 15 percent for hoist and trolley weight and 25 percent for impact. E. Perform welding by certified operators in accordance with AWS D14.1. F. Bolted connections shall be in accordance with torque tightening procedures specified in AISC Manual, Part 5. G. Clearly label crane with rated load capacity. Place label at height and location easily read from floor level and loading position. 1.6 WARRANTY: A. Provide 10 year warranty for crane to cover defects in materials and workmanship. 1.7 GUARANTEES: The Contractor guarantees, by signing the contract, all installed project equipment, apparatus, materials, and workmanship provided under the contract for a period of two (2) years after final acceptance. Instruction sheets that are required to be furnished by the manufacturer for installed project equipment, materials, supplied, and operation shall be delivered by the Contractor to the Engineer prior to final acceptance of the project, with the following written warranties and guarantees: 1. The manufacturer s standard warranty for each piece of installed project equipment or apparatus furnished under the contract. 2. The Contractor s guarantee that, during the guarantee period, necessary repair of replacement of the warranted equipment or apparatus will be made by the Contractor at no direct pay. 3. The Contractor s guarantee for satisfactory operation of installed project equipment including, but not limited to, the mechanical and electrical systems furnished and constructed under the contract for the guarantee period. If it should be found that parts failed due to defective material or faulty workmanship and if such parts should, within the manufacturer s warranty period, cause any breakdown or accident, the Contractor will not only be required to furnish and install the replacement part, but will also be held responsible to the City of Shreveport for all expenses due to accident or breakdown caused FREE STANDING JIB CRANE

9 by such a failure. The Contractor shall insert one copy of all warranties and guarantees into the maintenance manuals specified. Routine maintenance during the guarantee period will be performed by the City of Shreveport. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS: A. Gorbel, Inc., P.O. Box 593, Fishers, New York ; ; B. Requests to use equivalent products of other manufacturers shall be submitted to the Project Engineer. 2.2 FREE STANDING JIB CRANE: A. Type: Free standing, base plate mounted, motorized, steel jib crane with rotating boom, electrical entry collector, tagline festoon system, and other accessories; Model No. FS W24 as manufactured by Gorbel, Inc., or approved equal. B. Span: 20 feet C. Under boom height: 14 feet D. Construction: Fabricate from ASTM A36 steel sections with finished ends and surfaces. 1. Mast: Stationary steel pipe, perpendicular to boom. Equip mast top with plate and pivot pin to receive head assembly. 2. Boom: Horizontal, wide flange steel beam bolted to head assembly and designed for hoist trolley traveling on bottom flange. Reinforce with cap channel as required for lateral stability. Equip boom with stops to limit movement of trolley. 3. Head assembly: Welded steel plate and channel fabrication fitted over mast, bolted to boom, and designed to transfer boom load to mast and to rotate. Assembly shall allow for installation of head prior to boom attachment and provide maximum hoist lift. a. Top pivot bearing assembly: Designed to connect head assembly to mast and transfer load from boom. Weight bearing channel connecting sides of head assembly shall contain tapered roller bearings allowing easy rotation. b. Retaining pin: Inserted through mast pivot pin above weight bearing channel to prevent accidentally dislodging head assembly. Cranes without retaining pin are not acceptable. c. Trunnion roller assembly: Designed to rotate around mast and transmit moment force from boom to mast. Provide trunnion rollers with tapered bearings held in steel channel with 1 inch diameter bolts. Masts less than 18 inches diameter shall FREE STANDING JIB CRANE

10 have 2 rollers and larger masts shall have 4 rollers. Assembly shall rotate around mast with full roller face contact. Roller surface shall be sufficiently large to prevent cutting into mast. Cranes with small rollers or cams requiring wear band on mast are not acceptable. E. Base plate mounting: Provide hexagonal steel base plate welded to mast for anchoring crane to concrete foundation cast flush with floor slab. 1. Gussets: Weld triangular, full-web gusset plates to mast and base plate for stability and reinforcement. Cranes with open gussets or base plates made from rings and subject to warping are not acceptable. 2. Base plate to be installed on foundation with anchor bolts of number, size, and pattern as indicated on shop drawings. 2.3 MOTORIZED OPERATION: A. Provide motor operator to rotate crane boom. Operator to be bolted to back side of head assembly. B. Type: Variable frequency, direct drive allowing single or multiple speed applications, with torque limiter and worm gear reducer in oil bath. C. Motor: 1 HP, 1800 RPM, 3 Phase, Class B, 40 degrees C ambient continuous, C faced, 30 minutes rated. Motor shall be enclosed and fan cooled. D. Controls: Pre-wired controls in NEMA 4X enclosure with magnetic reversing starter, thermal overload protection, voltage transformer, and fuse block. Power supply to be 460 Volt, 3 Phase, 60 Hz. 2.4 ACCESSORIES: A. Electrical bottom entry collector: Provide electrical collector installed in weight bearing channel of head assembly to conduct electrical power from inside mast through mast pivot pin to electrically operated hoist on boom. Collector shall allow continuous 360 degrees crane rotation. B. Tagline festoon system: Provide system of wire rope tagline, S-hooks, and brackets and eyebolts for attachment to boom. System shall support electrical cable supplying trolley hoist moving along boom. 2.5 SHOP FINISHING: B. Steam wash steel crane components with iron phosphate solution and apply yellow baked enamel finish. C. Provide spray can of matching color, air-drying paint for field touch-up. PART 3 - EXECUTION FREE STANDING JIB CRANE

11 3.1 PREPARATION: A. Coordinate provision of crane with: 1. Design and construction of reinforced concrete footings as detailed on Drawings and specified in other sections. Ensure that accurate crane applied forces and anchor bolt patterns are provided for foundation design. 2. Provision of electrical supply, conduit, wiring, disconnect switch, and other electrical components for powering motorized crane and electrically operated hoist. B. Prior to installation: 3.2 INSTALLATION: 1. Verify reinforced concrete foundations have cured 7 days minimum. Ensure that foundations have cured 28 days minimum prior to using crane to full capacity. 2. Verify type and location of power supply. 3. Inventory parts. Verify all required components are available and undamaged. A. Install crane and accessories in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and shop drawings. B. Do not modify crane components in any manner without advance, written approval by crane manufacturer. C. Clearances for moving crane components: 1. 3 inch minimum vertical clearance from any overhead obstruction inch minimum horizontal clearance from any lateral obstruction. D. Mast: Cover base plate foundation area with 1 inch grout. Set mast into place and completely seat base plate in grout. Use plumb bob with 60 inch minimum line to plumb mast. Check alignment at 60 degree points. When mast is plumb and grout cured, tighten anchor bolts to full compression of lockwasher. E. Head assembly: Install head assembly with electrical bottom entry collector on mast. Bolt motor operator to back side of head assembly. Make electrical connections. Adjust rollers for smooth, full contact rotation. F. Boom: Set boom on head assembly attach with bolts and other manufacturer provided hardware. Level boom with shims or adjusting hexnuts. G. Electrical top entry collector: Attach with mounting plate and bolts to top flange of boom. H. End stops: In conjunction with hoist trolley installation, bolt end stops to boom ends. 12 I. Install tagline to boom with brackets and tension wire rope with eyebolts. Run festoon cable through S-hooks for connection to hoist. 3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL: A. Move boom through entire travel to ensure boom is clear of obstructions, rotates freely, and does not drift. Verify motorized operation, controls, and limit switches function properly. B. Inspect installed crane. Verify all bolts are tight and lockwashers fully compressed. Verify mast is plumb and boom is level. C. Field test crane and accessories for operating functions. Ensure crane movement is smooth and proper. Adjust as required and correct deficiencies. D. Clean surfaces. If necessary, touch-up paint damage, scratches, and blemishes with manufacturer provided matching paint. E. Protect cranes from other construction operations. 3.4 DEMONSTRATING AND TRAINING: A. Provide demonstration and training session for Owner's representative covering operation and maintenance of free standing jib crane. END OF SECTION FREE STANDING JIB CRANE
