2 All-State VFW LONE STAR POST McKinney, TX Monthly Newsletter December COMMANDER S CORNER AUXILIARY CORNER Greetings Comrades, On January 1st the Post will open at 11:30am. A great way to start the New Year with friends and football!! As you can see December is a busy time at the Post. There are several opportunities to participate by volunteering for the various events. Volunteers are needed for Toys 4 Tots, Children's Christmas Party, Bonham Vets and setting up for our annual New Years Eve Celebration. Note: On November 5th we had our Veterans Day Buddy Poppy event. We had two locations and only had 6 Post members, 3 Auxiliary members and several members of Boy Scout Troop 2150 volunteer for this event. As Commander of Lone Star Post 2150 with over 300 plus members I find this hard to understand. The BuddyPoppy Program is essential to our Post being able to reach out and help fellow Veterans in need in our community. This being said I encourage our membership to step up and be an active part of your Post. The activities at the Post in December are an intricate part of the Post being involved and moving forward in our community!! TACO TUESDAYS ~ This is a great time to come to the Post mid-week for good food and comradeship!! In addition to enjoying great homemade tacos you are also eligible for the weekly drawing. Each week $25.00 is put into the drawing and a name is pulled from all the members of the Post. If that person is not present the $25.00 rolls over to the next week. (cont d next page) Hi Auxiliary members, Merry Christmas Well, here it is December already. Hoping this finds everyone happy and healthy as we come into the Holiday Season. We have been very busy this last year, and only getting busier. We had our Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy contests in November, I am very happy to announce the we forwarded a young lady from our own Post 2150 on to District competition as our Voice of Democracy winner. Congratulations, Tiffany Royko, You did an outstanding job. Dec 3 is our 10th annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle ride, we will need volunteers for registration and help with serving lunch afterward. Please me if you can help at shelley.rule@gmail.com Dec 10th is our annual Children's Christmas Party, there are signup sheets for you at the Post, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be stopping by and we need to make sure we have gifts for all of them. Dec 12th will be our meeting 6:30 pm. Dec 16th will be our Christmas Bake Sale- THANKSGIVING SALE WAS OUTSTANDING, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT PARTICIPATED. Bring in your donations for the Christmas Auction by 7 on Friday the 16th. We will also be doing the Girls swap party. If you would like to bring in a gift to join in the fun, you are more than welcome. We have about a $20 limit for gifts. 3 Commanders Corner (cont d) If your name is pulled twice and you are not present that name is eliminated until someone wins the current drawing. The name is then put back in for the new drawing. TACO TUESDAYS ~ Two additional items regarding Taco Tuesdays. One, we need additional people to volunteer to prepare and serve so that those that have been doing it can have a break. Also, there have been several individuals that have donated the meat and if you are able to donate to this event please call me, Ray Richardson at QUEEN OF HEARTS ~ On Wednesdays at 7:00pm we have the Queen of Hearts drawing. The current drawing is $1200. Come to the Post for details. Look forward to seeing you there!! Looking forward to seeing what 2017 holds for Lone Star Post 2150!! Wishing all a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!! Ray Richardson Auxiliary Corner (cont d) Dec 18th will be our Bonham Patients Day Out Visit. They will be at the Post from Come out and share in a day of fun with those that have given so much for us. I will insert another Merry Christmas here and let you have a week off, but don't forget Sweating Bullets and our NEW YEARS party on Sat DEC 31. In the last few months we have implemented a few new things at the Post, one of them is the Taco Tuesday. Which did you know that if you buy a taco, and your name is drawn you are eligible to win the pot...no one has been there yet, it's growing. EVERY member, Post or Auxiliary is eligible. Jim Nichols (NIck) & Gary Townsend have been graciously giving up there Tuesday night for this event for the last 3 months, if you have some time to pitch in and take a Tuesday here or there, they would be very appreciative. We would also accept donations of 10lbs of hamburger meat for this event as well. Thank you again to EVERYONE that has stepped in and stepped up to help us bring our Post back to life. Without each of our members we would not be here and I know each and everyone of you do what you can to make us succeed. So if I haven't said it before, I will say it again now. I am proud of ALL of our Members, THANK YOU! May you each have a Blessed Christmas & Prosperous New Year! Best Regards, Shelly Rule
