Anatomy has a prominent place in our curriculum throughout all five years, and additionally provides a very popular Student Selected Study option for years 1-3. As our senior clinical anatomist, you would work with the team and the curriculum to ensure that our anatomy teaching is always orientated towards clinical practice, and thus wholly relevant to our graduates needs as doctors. Whilst 0.5 wte will be in your anatomy role, the expectation is that you would retain a clinical role 0.5 wte within one of our associated Trust hospitals in order to maintain your GMC Fitness to Practice license. We anticipate that you will be a practicing surgeon, radiologist or another medical specialty with strong knowledge of human anatomy. The post holder will possess: leadership skills, first class communication and team-working skills, strong knowledge of human anatomy in a clinical context, experience of facilitating or teaching small groups of students or professionals, medical qualification, revalidating, with Completion of Specialty Training, a willingness to embrace innovative collaborative curricular developments relating to the MB BS, and will continue in a consultant-level post while holding this post. THE POST The post holder will be involved in the teaching and assessment of the undergraduate medical students in clinical anatomy. You will be responsible with the team for the provision of anatomy teaching to our 850 medical students across their five year curriculum. This involves leading both the core curriculum and Student Selected Studies. You will work with the team to ensure that formative assessment is provided to students throughout their course, and work with our Assessment Team to ensure that summative assessment material in anatomy is available for our written examinations each year. You will work with the team to develop innovation in teaching within anatomy and support the three Student Selected Study modules that students are able to take in anatomy.

2 In addition, the anatomy team provides teaching to other students from within the Faculty of Health Sciences, notably our nursing, allied health and in future our paramedic students. Provision of that teaching is also delivered from your anatomy team, led by you. Finally, all ATS Academic staff are required to develop Enterprise and Engagement. In this role this will involve ensuring our anatomy teaching is nationally and internationally recognised as being world-leading promoting the department s work and our School in educational fora and with secondary schools. Furthermore, you will capitalise on opportunities to develop surgical/anaesthetic and other postgraduate uses of our anatomy resources. As a senior member of the medical education department you will organise appraisals of the teaching staff, as well as supporting their personal development. You will be an active member of our Medical Education Department contributing to ensuring it is nationally recognised as delivering high quality Undergraduate medical education, taking part in relevant national anatomical events, and assisting the Course Director in ensuring our curriculum exceeds GMC requirements. As a senior member of the Medical Education team you may also participate, for the school, in GMC quality assurance activities, either locally or nationally. All academic members of our School have personal advisees (students that they support primarily from a pastoral perspective through the five year course), contribute to undergraduate interviewing and you will be expected to attend at least one Open Day/year, and you would be expected to assess both in anatomy, but also more broadly in our clinical OSCEs. Human Tissue Act Our use of cadavers is regulated under the Human Tissue Act. Our Facilities manager (Sue O Connor) is the Designated Individual named on the licence who is responsible for ensuring we meet the Act s provisions. 4 The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMH) The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is led by the Executive Dean of Faculty, Professor Ian Harvey, working closely with the Heads of School, and the Associate Deans who share responsibility for the areas of Research; Enterprise and Engagement; Learning and Teaching; Admissions; and Postgraduate Research. These senior academics, together with the Director of University Services, the Faculty Human Resources Manager, and the Faculty Finance Manager, form the Faculty Executive. Teaching is organised through the Faculty s two Schools of study, comprising Health Sciences (HSC) and Norwich Medical School (MED), assisted by a Centre for Inter-professional Practice (CIPP). The Faculty also has strong research links with the Norwich Research Park, comprising the Institute of Food Research (IFR), the John Innes Centre (JIC), and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, see The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Schools of Study The Norwich Medical School Interim Head of School: Professor Nigel Norris The Medical School is now in its thirteenth year and has appointed a successor to the recent Head of School/Dean, Professor David Crossman. Professor Michael Frenneaux joins the Medical School as the new Head of School/Dean in January The Medical School at UEA was established in 2001 and has over 160 members of academic, research and support staff - and a large number of active NHS secondees and honorary appointees - from a wide range of disciplines (including medical specialties, biological sciences and a range of social and statistical disciplines, including health economics, psychology, epidemiology, and medical statistics). The School has grown with a current entry each year of 168 students. Its first students graduated in 2007 and in 2008 the Medical degree programme came sixth out of the 32 UK medical schools in the national Student Satisfaction Survey. The School promotes interdisciplinary teaching and learning and offers a wide range of programmes including: an innovative and highly integrated five-year MB/BS programme commenced in 2002 with an initial intake of 110 students per year, now 168 students per year a one year research intensive Masters degree in Health Research (MRes) supplying research experience and transferrable skills the modular MSc programme in Health Sciences for the continuing professional development of a wide range of health care professionals

5 (currently attracting over 100 registered students including GPs and junior hospital doctors) a Masters in Clinical Education (MClinEd) degree a doctoral programme (ClinPsyD) in clinical psychology (with over 60 postgraduate students on the programme) the degrees of PhD, MPhil and MD, awarded by thesis or by portfolio of published work. There are a growing number of clinical academics in the areas of stroke and ageing; respiratory medicine; gastroenterology; clinical pharmacology; cardiology; surgery; primary care; public health and epidemiology; rheumatology; diabetes and orthopaedics. The Medical School has recently received an allocation of Walport academic training posts amounting to four new Academic Clinical Fellowships and two new clinical lectureships for each of the next three years. There is particular strength within the Medical School in epidemiology, statistics and health economics and exciting possibilities for appointees to develop clinical trials within the Clinical Trials Unit as well as experimental medicine within the seven bed Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The School is committed to appropriate multi-disciplinary working and the post holder will find excellent on-going collaborations across a wide range of disciplines. The School of Health Sciences Head of School: Professor Valerie Lattimer On 1st August 2014, the Schools of Nursing Sciences and Rehabilitation Sciences at UEA came together to create a new School of Health Sciences. The School s purpose is to resolve health challenges through the advancement of knowledge and interdisciplinary working. This innovative development has built on the strong reputation of the two Schools and creates an outstanding learning environment for students; fostering cutting edge research and offering opportunities for real innovation in enterprise development. The School of Health Sciences encompasses a family of interrelated disciplines; midwifery, all fields of nursing, operating department practice, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. Our research is focussed on developing solutions to future global health challenges as a consequence of our life style choices (e.g. obesity, diabetes); living longer with long term conditions and the need for systems, services and training models to adapt to different health care needs in the future. We have a clear vision and strategy to be a leading international academic force in our field, improving the quality of healthcare through our research and education. The School s academic structure is designed to secure the delivery of our strategy. Staff belong to one of three health challenge units which drive innovation in research, teaching and learning in three theme areas: reforming health systems; promoting family and community health and living well with long term conditions. The groups foster a collaborative ethos and serve as an

6 academic home community for those with related interests from a variety of professional backgrounds. We support our academic staff to actively engage in practice and provide opportunities to extend personal development linked to performance. As a School community we are committed to sustained engagement with staff, students, service users and carers and we aim to be in tune with the priorities and requirements of our NHS partners and other providers at a time of considerable change and resource constraint in the wider economy. We have developed excellent partnership working with other HEIs, commissioners and health care providers in the region and work closely with clinical colleagues to maintain and develop clinical experience for students, as well as providing a mechanism for incorporating their role as mentors and clinical educators into lifelong learning. We currently have over 1300 undergraduate, pre-registration students and around 1200 post registration and postgraduate students taking a variety of modules and courses, including our flagship NIHR Masters in Clinical Research. The success of the School is reflected by the popularity of its programmes and a number of measures of esteem. The School is ranked 5th for nursing and midwifery and 7th for health professions in the Guardian University Guide (2015) and has recently climbed four places to 8th place for nursing in the Complete University Guide (2015). ACADEMIC STAFF The University appoints academic staff to both Academic Teaching and Research (ATR) posts which have a strong research focus, and Academic Teaching and Scholarship (ATS) posts which have a strong teaching focus. The successful candidate will be appointed into the ATS category. Enterprise and engagement involves academic staff in the use of, or development of, intellectual capital which benefits both the University and nonacademic sectors, through community engagement and interactions with other public sector bodies, business and the third sector. Academic staff within the Faculty benefit from a strongly supportive environment for these highly valued activities, with: dedicated Associate Deans for Learning and Teaching; Research, Enterprise and Engagement; Admissions; and PGR a dedicated Business Development Manager an appropriate reduction in administrative responsibilities for Lecturers on probation support for appropriate conference and course attendance, and a supportive administrative infrastructure.

Members of staff are expected to engage in, and will be supported towards, further appropriate personal development and skills acquisition.
