6 CampCanada.org CAMP COUNSELLOR There are two types of Camp Counsellors and both roles require endless enthusiasm, buckets of patience and a genuine desire to work with kids to ensure they have the bust summer ever! General Camp Counsellors are the lifeblood of camp. You will be responsible for waking your campers in the morning and ensuring they get to bed safely at night. From organising some fun activities to braiding hair, you are the one these kids look up to. So, prepare to be idolised by many and receive dozens of friendship bracelets to remind you of your summer in Canada with these keen little campers. Activity Counsellors are usually skilled and experienced in a particular activity and will directly instruct or assist with the campers. You will usually teach in your field during the day, so if you are a sailor expect plenty of time on the water and a wicked tan! In the evening you will join in with the camp activities, be it a rowdy campfire or a fantastic show on stage. This is the behind the scenes role but you will still be able to take part in evening camp activities if you want. 1. 8 CampCanada.org TYPES OF CAMPS SPECIAL NEEDS DAY CAMPS One of the most rewarding experiences you can have with Camp Canada. Being a special needs Camper can require a slightly different skillset; patience, empathy and excellent communications skills along with a willingness to get involved. Previous experience is beneficial, but not essential as Camp Directors look for a person with a great personality who has a smile on their face whatever the situation. Typically you will be responsible for 2-6 campers and you should be prepared to work with adults as well as children. These camps will be like your traditional camps or your specialty camps but the kids come during the day and you get your evening free. TRADITIONAL This is what most people imagine when they think of Summer Camps. These camps have excellent facilities along with a wide range of programmes and activities. Camp activities range from campfires and climbing walls, to the more adventurous quad biking and off site visits. SPECIALTY CAMP Like traditional camps but with a theme associated to them (e.g. Gymnastics Camp, Basketball Camp, Cheer Camps, etc.). UNDERPRIVILEGED This will be like your Traditional Camp but the children who are invited come from lower income families. Expect a great sense of family and community at these camps. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Like your traditional camps but the children who attend have special requirements such as diabetes, hearing impairments, or ADHD. SCOUT CAMPS A hot favourite for anyone who was a scout or guide as a kid. These camps focus on wilderness, adventure and outdoor living, so anyone who loves the outdoor will be in for a treat. Expect fun-filled days of Kayaking, mountaineering, crafts and overnight expeditions. FAITH BASED Camp Canada has a wide range of faith-based camps for campers from a Christian or Jewish background. Some camps focus on providing the typical summer camp experience with faith-based principles while other camps encompass faith based learning and services throughout the programme. You will not necessarily have to be religious to work at a faith camp, but a respect and understanding for other people s beliefs is essential.

9 CampCanada.org APPLICATION PROCESS Welcome to our 3 Step Application Process, we have kept it as simple as possible whilst ensuring you have the necessary information to make your application as strong as possible. STAGE 1: (First payment of 69) Placement and Visa Applying STAGE 3: Application Fill out online Takes an hour tops The more information the better Note down any teaching or coaching skills you Rank your skills, starting with your strongest References 2 references Needs to come from a professional source (teachers, coaches, employers) Done in your local area or via Skype Just a way get to know you and your skills better (Final payment of 230) Camp Fairs, Transiting your Application to Canada Dedicated placement coordinators working in Canada work hard to match you with your perfect camp. We host camp fair in where you can meet Camp Directors face to face and get placed. We will put you in contact with our flight partners to help you get the best deal on your flights or if you pay your fees before Feb you can opt in for flight assistance. Orientation STAGE 2: Make sure you attend you local medical health practice to obtain a health check. Sort Flights Interview We will help to process this through DDC. Health Check Make sure your passport is in date and has at least 12 months left on it and make sure your application details are all correct CRB ( 45.86) may have Congratulations you have been placed! 11 CampCanada.org IMPORTANT STUFF AVAILABILITY DATES ORIENTATION Camp Canada runs an 8-10 week programme, with most camps starting the end of June and finishing in August. FLIGHTS Flights are not included in the application fee and must be purchased separately. We work with a flight partner dedicated to working with Camp Canada participants in getting them the best deal. Or you can opt in to a flight assistance deal if you complete your documents and pay your fees by Feb. INSURANCE Camp Canada offers 10 weeks of fully comprehensive medial insurance. We recommend that you take our additional insurance to cover you for any period of travel outside camp. Or take travel insurance to cover your belongings. Never take the risk of being in Canada without adequate medical insurance. It s not worth it. Meet other international staff who will be working at your camp and other camps across Canada; learn about your camp job; take a free tour of your host city; receive answers to your camp related questions. Your two free nights and orientation day will allow you to get get settled in, see the sites and prepare for the action packed and fun filled summer that is undoubtedly ahead! CAMP FAIRS Camp Canada will be hosting a number of Camp fairs in January. These are the perfect opportunity to meet camp directors and secure your dream summer job. We strongly advise that you attend these job fairs as this is your opportunity to speak to many camp directors and find your perfect match. 24 HOUR EMERGENCY HELP LINE Obviously we hope that your Summer of a lifetime goes smoothly without a hitch. However, if you do encounter any problems we have a dedicated representative available 24 hours a day to take your calls, offer assistance and answer social media queries whatever the circumstances.
