2 The Marathon Experience A unique event for all Marathon runners around the world, held in Athens, Greece. HOCSH has the honor to be the host of EFCS members who wish to take part in this exceptional lifetime experience.

3 The Marathon History Among all the Olympic sport events, the Marathon Race stands out as it was born by a true historic and heroic event. It was a true triumph accomplished by a news-bearing foot soldier from ancient Athens, who announced - with his last words - the victory of the Greeks against the Persians during the Marathon Battle in 490 BC. The 42,195m Marathon Race became one of the most competitive events during the revival of the Olympic Games in The Marathon Race has always had a prominent place in the hearts and minds of sports enthusiasts, as it represents the highest effort where the human body, soul and mind are tested to their limits as the runner presses himself/herself to reach the finish line.

4 The Marathon Course The Marathon Race starts from the Marathon Start Venue in the town of Marathon. The runners run along the area of the Marathon Tomb (War Memorial) and then through north east areas of the city. At the latter crossroad (39thkm), the runners go on Vas. Sofias Avenue where they pass by the American Embassy, the Athens Music Hall and the Park of Liberty (40km). At the last part, the runners have eye contact with the Panathinaikon Stadium, passing by the Presidential Residency and the National Gardens. At the final few meters, the athletes enter the Stadium and run inside it, before reaching the finish line. The runners enter the Panathinaikon Stadium from the left side, where the Finish Arch is found.

6 The Marathon Finish The Panathenaic Stadium The Panathenaic Stadium is a classical cultural and touristic monument of Greece and one of the most significant monuments not only for Athens, but for the whole Greece. Its rich history is directly connected to the Modern Olympic Games as from their revival in 1896 until the Athens Olympic Games in It is also the place from where the Olympic flame sets up its journey to the cities of the Olympic Games, both Winter, Summer and Youth. It is one of our city s most popular touristic attractions and one of Athens landmarks.
