2 About Connect Michigan Connect Michigan is a non-profit organization, in partnership with the Michigan Public Service Commission, tasked with facilitating the expansion of broadband access, adoption, and use throughout the state. 3 Broadband Defined More commonly referred to as high-speed internet Internet connection with a download speed of 768 kb/sec or faster More realistically, 3mb/sec or faster for residents, 10mb/sec or faster for businesses Several platforms Cable Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Dedicated Circuit -Fiber-optic/Copper Fixed wireless Mobile wireless

4 Why is Broadband important? Broadband empowers people! Broadband is the new essential infrastructure. Access to broadband does not guarantee success, but lack of access to broadband will guarantee stagnation and decline. - Susan Crawford, National Economic Council
