2 Grieving Process: The Kübler-Ross Model (1969) Stage 1: Denial ( 부정단계 ) No, this can t be, there must be a mistake etc.. Denial is functional as it helps cushion the impact of loss. Stage 2: Rage and Anger ( 분노단계 ) Why me? This isn t fair!! Stage 3: Bargaining ( 타협단계 ) Attempt to strike bargains to regain all or part of loss. Stage 4: Depression ( 우울단계 ) The loss is true and it s really sad. How can I go on with life? Stage 5: Acceptance ( 수용단계 ) Fully acknowledge the loss. 2
3 How to relate to dying persons/survivors It is helpful to use active listening with both survivors and persons who are terminally ill. It is frequently helpful to share with survivor pleasant and positive memories you have about the person who has died. Continue to visit the survivors if they show interest in such visits. Tuesdays with Morrie Tuesdays with Morrie is a 1997 non-fiction novel by American writer Mitch Albom.
