7 Chapter 2 What s New in this Release The MeshOS 4.4 release includes the following new features and enhancements: Supports the Bootloader APBoot on page 7 Dual Flash Partitions on page 8 Manufacturing Information Changes in AirMesh Routers on page 8 Enhancements in CLI and WMI to display Product Information on page 8 New MIBs and Traps for Product Information on page 10 Supports the Bootloader APBoot MeshOS 4.4 includes support for the bootloader APBoot. The bootloader APBoot has been ported into the AirMesh platform. APBoot has been modified to boot both MeshOS and ArubaOS images, support single as well as dual flash partitions, and to use the Aruba flash layout. APBoot will be supported on the AirMesh routers MSR1200, MSR2000, MSR4000, and MST200 starting with MeshOS 4.4. NOTE All routers shipped after March 2012 will have the bootloader APBoot. Upgrading to MeshOS 4.4 The devices that are already in the market with the bootloader RedBoot and MeshOS versions 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.5, 4.2, 4.3, and x can be upgraded to MeshOS 4.4. NOTE Upgrading an existing router to MeshOS 4.4 does not upgrade the bootloader to APBoot. The router retains the bootloader RedBoot and upgrades only the MeshOS to 4.4. Identifying the Old and New Routers The following information on a router can be used to determine at first glance if the router includes bootloader RedBoot or APBoot: Product Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) The product SKUs of the routers shipping with the bootloader APBoot and MeshOS 4.4 have been changed to make them more consistent with other Aruba products. For example, the SKU for the PoE version of the MSR2000, MSR2K23N0 has been changed to MSR2KP ( P for PoE Version ). The SKU for the AC-powered version of the MSR2000, MSR2K23N1 has been changed to MSR2KAC. Serial number on the router The serial number on the new routers will follow the same format as the Aruba devices. The serial numbers will now comprise of 9 characters. The first two characters are alpha-numeric and the remaining 7 are numeric. The serial number of the old routers is 14 characters. For example, Serial Number for an old AirMesh router is 12A and a new AirMesh router is AM MeshOS 4.4 Release Notes What s New in this Release 7
8 Dual Flash Partitions MeshOS 4.4 supports an additional 16MB flash. This second partition can be used for backup purposes in case the primary image is corrupted. NOTE MeshOS image on the backup partition cannot be upgraded. Manufacturing Information Changes in AirMesh Routers AirMesh routers running MeshOS 4.4 and later will follow Aruba s manufacturing information format. The baud rate and OUI parameters (such as the Serial Number) have been changed to be in line with the Aruba APs. However, MeshOS 4.4 also supports the old baudrate ( bps). Table 3 lists the terminal communication settings for the AirMesh devices along with their baudrates. 15 Chapter 4 Known Issues The following are known issues and limitations for this release of MeshOS. Applicable bug IDs and workarounds are included: Table 7 Known Issues and Limitations Bug ID Description Workaround Cross VLAN roaming is not supported. A client has to stay within the same VLAN MOTRIX may take a supplicant, which is brought online after a while, offline every minute, when the AP is working in VPLM mode with Motrix enabled, the supplicant is working in bridge mode, and DHCP in VLAN interface If the channel-list on both sides of the WDS are not alike, mesh links may not form The show mesh route command fails to get mesh route via Ethernet link if Ethernet is working on backhaul mode Management VLAN may not be reachable in the VPLM network when the VLAN number is more than 16 in each node Google Chrome and Apple Safari browsers cannot work with the WMI>troubleshooting>tools page Access issues encountered while using iphone (with ios 5) as a client in the mesh network An error is reported during an upgrade of partition 1 on the first flash even though the upgrade process was successful. None Disable MOTRIX in Layer 2 network. In the case of cross IP subnet Layer 3 roaming, a clientlist is helpful to avoid this issue. Set same channel-list on both sides. None Restart VPLM. Use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. None None. This issue is also found in the mainline APBoot version Station roaming fails in some cases. None Kernel crashes observed during Multicast which causes the MSR routers to reboot. The routers reboot automatically after the kernel crash Mesh link recovery fails after uptime of 21 days. Reboot the AP Import of configuration from a WMI export file into a device with factory default settings does not work properly The user should be prompted with an error message when an invalid channel is configured. Execute the write memory operation before Import. None MeshOS 4.4 Release Notes Known Issues 15
