People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of equipment used in an automotive refinishing shop; use the equipment; and maintain the equipment. Classification Motor Industry > Vehicle Spraypainting Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation and regulations (and subsequent amendments) are relevant to this unit standard and must be followed where applicable: Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, 1996; Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992; Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations, 1990; Spray Coating Regulations, When the evidence requirements state to the 'acceptable industry standard', it is assumed that it complies with the product and vehicle manufacturers' standards. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of equipment used in an automotive refinishing shop. 1.1 Purpose of equipment is identified according to the manufacturer's compressors, spray booths, dust extraction systems, oil lubricating systems, air cleaning systems, air dryers, air line system, floor jack.
2 Page 2 of Principles of how equipment operates are identified according to the manufacturer's piston compressor, hydrovane compressor, rotary compressor, flow through spray booth, down draught spray booth, semi-down draught spray booth, aqua dry units for water borne paints, dust extraction systems both on and off the machine, oil lubricating systems on and off the machine, air line and air cleaning systems, air dryer, floor jack, gun wash machines for solvent and water borne paints, air dryers, air line system, air quality and volume, transformer, floor jack, dustless dry sanding system. 1.3 Causes of air pressure drop between the compressor and air outlet are identified. 1.4 Manufacturer's instructions are identified to enable the equipment to be used according to manufacturer's specifications and the acceptable industry standard.
