2 Position Objectives: This position is required to report to the Manager Early Intervention and Clinic Services. Specifically, the role is responsible and accountable for: The coordination of Speech Pathology services provided by Autism SA s Early Intervention and Clinic Services team. The application of clinical experience and professional competence to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive and integrated range of services appropriate to the needs of the clients and their families/carers. The contribution to the clinical supervision and support of less experienced staff or students. Working collaboratively, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which may include service providers from other sectors, utilizing a combination of preventative, early intervention, treatment/therapy and evaluation approaches. Special Requirements: Current South Australian Drivers Licence Satisfactory Child Related Employment Screening (facilitated through DCSI) Reasonable additional hours of work may be required May be required to travel intra/interstate Willingness to participate in an annual performance and professional review Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Service Delivery and Reporting Ensure that referrals and caseloads are prioritised in accordance with established procedures and principles through negotiation with the Manager Early Intervention and Clinic Services to maximise the use of available resources Deliver direct support in Autism SA centre based settings, home, education and other community settings Assess the speech, language and communication needs of children utilising appropriate assessments and intervention strategies and processes Mealtime Assessment and development of Oral Eating and Drinking Health Care Plans (if required) Provide written assessment reports, including comprehensive recommendations, when necessary Planning, preparing, implementing, evaluating and modifying intervention programs and related resources in conjunction with other Early Intervention and Clinic Services staff within a multi-disciplinary focus Develop and maintain effective communication with families and relevant others Maintain up to date records and reports including group daily records, term reports and progress notes. Provide consultative support to families, preschools and child care centres Attend and participate in review and transition meetings as negotiated with preschools and provide reports if required Facilitate successful inclusion of families and children into group programs Work collaboratively with families, DECD staff and other service providers Autism SA JD060 v4 Page 2 of 7
3 Key Performance Indicators o Evidence that referrals for Speech Pathology and or related services are delegated to appropriate staff o Evidence that relevant reports and documentation are recorded o Evidence that appropriate evidence based assessment tools, interventions and strategies are used to conduct assessments and create individual goals and outcomes o Evidence of attendance at relevant meetings 2. Contribute to the planning and development of the Speech Pathology Service Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on service delivery to ensure quality evidence based practice. This includes identifying aspects of services that require clarification, and assisting in the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate strategies Evaluation and review of Mealtime Assessment practices within the Early Intervention and Clinic Services team Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other local teams and organisations Contribute to training and development programs by identifying aspects of the service where such activities would be beneficial or necessary. Reporting to groups on professional development activities attended outside the organization as well as sharing relevant clinical experience with the group. Provide newly developed programs and materials developed for use with clients and across other sites or organisations Undertake professional development to extend professional knowledge and skills to meet own and services needs Assist with the selection, induction and orientation of new staff, supervision of undergraduate speech pathology students as negotiated with the Manager Early Intervention and Clinic Services Conduct Professional Development and Performance Reviews (PDPR) for identified staff Key Performance Indicators o Evidence of attendance and contribution at team meetings o Evidence of coordinating, in conjunction with other seniors, allied health team meetings o Evidence of review of materials used by Autism SA specific to Speech Pathology o Evidence of involvement in the recruitment, selection, orientation and induction of newly appointed Speech Pathologists o Evidence that continuous professional development has been undertaken o Evidence that PDPRs have been conducted 3. Provision of information, education and support to families, ASA staff, service providers and the general public Provide follow up specialised advice, support and information to families, DECD and service providers Identify training and development needs, in collaboration with relevant staff- developing, delivering and evaluating programs as negotiated Contribute to the development and presentation of written information and training packages relating to the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder Provide staff from other organisations with support, information and strategies for working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders as required Autism SA JD060 v4 Page 3 of 7
4 Key Performance Indicators o Evidence of follow up with families, DECD, state and commonwealth government agencies and other service providers o Evidence of identifying movement within the sector of changes to practise that may impact on the ASD community o Evidence that handouts, specific procedures or competencies have been reviewed o Evidence that individual supervision has been conducted 4. Promotion and Representation of Autism SA Ensure a positive reputation for the agency Represent Autism SA in appropriate policy and planning meetings Develop and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders and strategic partners 5. To work as an integral staff member of Autism SA Complete reports and data as required and being accountable at all times for work practices Attend and participate in team meetings, planning days, full staff meetings Work in collaboration with other departments of Autism SA Seek training and development opportunities Ensure adherence to relevant organisational policies and procedures and work practices Actively participate in continuous improvement activities and apply quality improvement principles to all duties performed Undertake other duties that may be allocated from time to time that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification. 6. 6 Person Specification Position Title: Qualifications: Essential: Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) or equivalent and be registered by the Speech Pathology Australia. Desirable: to participate in the Speech Pathology Australia professional association accredited Continual Professional Development (CPD) program.
