One little dress One little whistle One little girl Mission to heal provides dresses for little girls in the most remote parts of 3 rd world and developing nations. Mission to Heal distributes the dresses and with the money gained by whistle sponsorship provides medical care to the child, her family, and her village. ASK ABOUT BRITCHES FOR BOYS! info@whistlesforpeace.org
Step 1. 3 Fold case in half trying to keep the edges even. F O L D Measure 3-4 down and place armhole pattern ON THE FOLD! Trace pattern with pen or pencil. (If you are confident enough, you can either draw your own armhole or free cut with scissors.) You determine the size of the dress by the length you cut the pillowcase. Just use your best estimate as to height of a child you want the dress to fit. Allow for a turn down at the top of about 2-3 inches and from there cut your armholes. You can create an armhole pattern from a child s dress. However, if you just cut a broad J as pictured above it will work just fine. You can do it freehand or trace the outline with a pen or pencil. If the dress is made shorter for a younger child, the armhole will be narrower and not as far down. If the dress is for an older child, the armhole will be broader and further down. YOU CAN NOT MAKE A MISTAKE! Children come in many different sizes so your dress will fit someone.
Step 2: If you are making a small dress, use bias tape method: 1. If you are a good seamstress, you can pin the bias tape around the armholes anyway that works for you. If you are worried that it will slip you can follow steps below. 1 Open bias tape and pin along outer fold line to the right side (the side of fabric you will see) you will have to ease it a bit as shown in the in the photo below. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT! Cut off tape after you have gone all around the armhole with it. 2 Sew using straight stitch all along the arm hole on the fold of the bias tape as your guide. 3 Flip tape around and pin to the other side of the armhole. 4 Stitch along outer edge of tape all around the armhole. You are done! You can forget the bias tape and just clip curves of armhole. (see picture). Clip curves of armhole (see photos below to allow for the taking up of the larger arc into the smaller arc that is created by the curve of the armhole. You have to be an experienced seamstress to do this! 1. Fold in ¼ and press. 2. Fold in 1/2 or as best you can to inside and press. 3. You may find it helpful to pin, though it is not required 4. Stitch around armhole opening.
Pocket to Hold a Whistle on your Pillowcase Dress! 1 Cut a piece of fabric into a square size you think might work as a pocket. A 5-6 works well on dresses sized medium and up. For little dresses, you may want to consider a 4 square. 2. Fold over top of pocket ¼ and then again about 1. Press and sew. Be sure to back stitch so the pocket is strong. 3. Fold all three remaining edges of pocket about ¼ to ½. Press. 4. Pin pocket where you would like to see it on the dress. 5. Stitch three sides to dress. Be sure to back stitch so pocket holds well. Step 3: Creating the Casing is Simple! 1 Press top edge of dress in about ¼ 2 Press that edge in about 1 ½ 3. Stitch down using straight stitch or zig zag. Try to reverse stitching at each end to be strong. 4. Follow directions below that apply to your dress.
For dresses with bias tape 1 Cut section. of bias tape to a size you think will reach across the child. Remember the dress will be gathered and there must be room enough to tie bows at the shoulders. It is recommended that the length be about 24 for small and upward from that for other sizes. 2. Fold in each end of each piece of tape and press. 3. Stitch bias tape closed including the ends. 4. Pin a safety pin at the end of the bias tape and thread through casing. For dresses using shoelaces 1. Thread shoelace through casing and tie. If you wish, you can use other sorts of ties, but do remember it must be sturdy. Ribbon does not hold up. PLEASE: Stretch out the bias tape or shoelaces so that ends are even. Stitch in the center so that they can t be pulled out! KIDS WILL BE KIDS ALL OVER THE WORLD! PUT A WHISTLE IN THE POCKET! A whistle may be a toy for a child who has none, a call button in a clinic where there are none,or as a signal for help when hope is dim. Sending a little whistle represents a donation toward medical care for the little girl, her family and her village. Look what you have done! Suggested donation: $5.00 but any donation appreciated. Please also ask your family and friends, especially MEN to put whistles in pockets! If women sew, men can whistle!
Mission to Heal was organized and purposed by the vision of Dr. Glenn Geelhoed who for over 40 years has been treating people who otherwise would have no access to medical care. Mission to Heal sends health care practictioners and learning participants to the poorest parts of the globe to treat patients and train local health care workes. This initiative has a sustaining effect by enhancing the medical capabilities of small developing clinics. MISSION TO HEAL will give your dress to a little girl in a place forgotten by the world, except YOU remembered. Thank you. And what do I say of those heroes I ve met in places of beauty and places of brutality around the globe? When they speak to me of their hopes, I hear the echo of a more ancient voice whispering about the least of these, my brethren. Dr. Glenn Geelhoed If you would like to donate to medical mission please visit Any donation will be gratefully accepted.
