3 The following information has been made available to help you understand the sign up and tryout process for our season. Please be sure to read over all of the literature provided so you are very clear as to our procedure. Our program handbook, which includes all costs for the season and general information, will be ed once team placements have been decided. Thank you for considering Northern Elite All-Stars. Good luck to each athlete at tryouts. To register and participate in evaluations and tryouts, please return the following by the dates indicated. 4 Northern Elite Gymnastics and Cheer 180 gold Mine Road, Flanders, NJ Parent Information Meeting Tuesday, May 10 th 6:00 Northern Elite Tryout Clinics: Ages as of 8/31/16 9 and under Tuesday, May 10 th, 5:00-7:00 Thursday, May 12 th 5:00-7:00 Final Evaluations/Tryouts: Friday, May 13 th : 4:30-6: Tuesday, May 10 th, 7:00-9:00 Thursday, May 12 th 7:00-9:00 Final Evaluations/Tryouts: Friday, May 13 th : 6:30-8:30 REGISTRATION: In an effort to ensure a smooth try-out process, we strongly suggest you sign-up in advance. To do so, fill out and sign the TRY-OUT FORM, enclose a check or money order for the $35 nonrefundable Try-Out Fee payable to "Northern Elite Gymnastics and Cheer. This fee includes a Northern Elite All Star bow for female athletes and a Northern Elite decal for male athletes. We must receive it on or before May 2 th, 2016 in order to guarantee a bow/decal. Athletes who refer a friend who is new to Northern Elite and who registers for Tryouts will receive a $5.00 discount off of their Tryout Registration Fee. Registration after May 6 th will have a $50.00 registration fee. CHOREOGRAPHY DATES: AUGUST 15-18, SPECIFIC TEAM DAYS WILL BE ASSIGNED WHEN TEAMS ARE FORMED.

5 ABOUT TRY-OUTS: We fully understand that there is a certain level of stress an athlete feels during try-outs. You can rest assured that we will do everything we can to provide a relaxed atmosphere. To ease stress, tryouts will be closed to the public. WHAT TO BRING: Each athlete needs to come prepared with the following: 1) Appropriate attire for Final Evaluations: meaning proper footwear (sneakers), black shorts and a black tank top. 2) NOTE: Girls please wear a sports bra. 3) A water bottle containing ONLY WATER. No soda, juice or energy drinks. 4) A positive attitude and your evaluation skills. DO NOT wear jewelry or bring other valuables to try-outs. PROCESS: EVALUATION CLINIC (2 Days): Candidates will stretch, tumble, learn jump sequence, and stunt. TRY-OUTS: Candidates will stretch and warm-up tumbling. They will perform their skills before a panel of judges. EVALUATION: Our coaches will be evaluating every athlete in a fair and impartial manner. New cheerleaders will have the same opportunities as our returning members. It is the start of a new season which puts everyone on an equal playing ground therefore each candidate is viewed equally. Every candidate will be judged on their presentation of the material learned, attitude, precision, spirit and overall performance. Tumbling is a major factor in placing members on a squad, but the score sheets are made up of several areas which are also considered, such as: jumps, performance ability, cheer skills, and stunt technique etc. It is important for each candidate to work on all of these areas for the evaluation. Cheerleader's placement will be based on their age, abilities, and skills. A positive attitude, dedication and commitment to the sport are extremely important and expected. Placement on the All Star Team will be based on an athlete's potential. It is advantageous for an athlete to attempt the most difficult skills they can perform SAFELY (This means only perform at your current level of experience). Safety is the number one concern at Northern Elite. There will be no spotting during tryouts.

6 SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process will be conducted by the coaches. The criteria will include current and potential ability, specific position and function, attitude, coachability (both past and future). Potential contributions to our All Star program will also be taken into consideration. Candidates will be placed on a squad based on their age, skill level, and prior cheerleading, tumbling, gymnastics and dance experience. NOTIFICATION: Try-Out results will be ed on or after May 20th. We thank every athlete for participating in our Try-Outs. COMMITMENT NIGHT: There will be a MANDATORY Team Orientation Meeting for our for our All Star parent(s) and their cheerleaders on Wednesday, May 25, We will review the Parent Handbook, provide all necessary forms, answer questions, collect initial fees and announce the dates for the first formal training. ABOUT ALL STAR CHEERLEADING: If you are new to All Star cheerleading, below is a description of our sport. All Star cheerleading focuses on performing and competing. We do not cheer for any organized sport such as football, basketball, etc. At Northern Elite our training begins the week of June 1 st, 2016 and runs through the Summit/US Finals the beginning of May, Our squads spend several months training and putting together a professionally choreographed routine including dance, tumbling, cheer, jumps, and stunting. Our teams compete at regional and national competitions through-out the competition season of November, 2016 thru the middle of May, Above all, our cheerleaders are here to have fun and continue learning a sport they enjoy in a safe environment.
