Your tutor will (re-)introduce you to the language and assume no prior knowledge. Most learners in this course will have participated in King Edward VII School s Level 1 Course i.e. have studied the language for 1 year. A typical learner will have studied the language for at least two years, i.e. participated in the and 2 classes at King Edward VII School. A typical learner will have studied the language for at least three years, i.e. participated in the, 2 and 3 classes at King Edward VII School Advanced Conversation A class for adults who would like to maintain their advanced (e.g. post-a- Level) language skills. GCSE A class for adults who want to consolidate their learning by gaining a GCSE qualification. Learners must have recently studied the language for two years.

4 Course Content : Breakthrough Social situations: greetings; introducing yourself and others Talking about your family and friends Asking and answering simple questions Jobs and occupations Describing where you live (home, city, countries, nationality) Giving simple opinions and making requests Finding your Way around Town (sites, places of interest) Giving and understanding directions Arranging a meeting (days, months, time, place) Ordering drinks and snacks Shopping for food; understanding prices (numbers 1-100) Leisure activities and entertainment Likes and dislikes Holidays: accommodation / travel / weather : Preliminary Revision and Extension of topics Daily routine Helping a guest to settle in Explaining what languages you speak Basic telephone skills: introducing yourself, asking for repetition, checking understanding Shopping: Buying Souvenirs / Shopping for clothes At the Pharmacist: Explaining minor ailments / buying medicines Post Office / Bank: Buying stamps, posting a parcel; changing money Making Complaints in hotels, restaurants, shops Dealing with emergencies: Police, Lost Property Making Travel Arrangements: Rail and Air Travel / Reserving Seats / Understanding Timetables, Signs and Announcements / Hiring a Car /4: Intermediary Revision and Extension of and topics Talking about events in the past Past Holidays How things used to be Personal History / Curriculum Vitae Future Plans Your ideal Holiday The Media: Favourite films and TV programmes Further topics as agreed with the tutor Advanced Conversation This course covers themes of topical interest, mutually negotiated between tutor and course participants. The course is entirely taught in the target language. The course content will be tailored to learners needs and interests and is likely to cover topical issues as they arise, such as current affairs or news items. The focus is on maintaining advanced conversational skills with some reading/listening material used as a basis for oral practice and some written work undertaken for homework.
