1 Cherry Orchard Primary School E safety policy At Cherry Orchard Primary School we are committed to creating a safe learning environment for pupils to learn. We readily use a range of technologies to enhance pupils experiences during the school day and at home. We expect all members of our school community to follow our e safety policy. Creating a safe ICT learning environment The Internet is an invaluable resource which supports learning both in and out of the classroom. It is important that pupils understand how to use it safely and they are taught how to do this during computing and PSHE lessons within school. Parents are given copies of the acceptable Internet rules and sign to give permission for their child to use the Internet. Firewall At Cherry Orchard, all staff and pupils have access to the Internet. We use Filtered Broadband provided by RM to protect children from inappropriate websites and images. If any inappropriate data is viewed, staff are to report it to the network manager in the first instance or subsequently the DHT, who will then contact the provider. Securis Computer usage of staff and pupils is also monitored by the school using Policy Central software. This software takes a snapshot of any inappropriate material, which is monitored by the Headteacher. Any items of concern are logged and dealt with by the Headteacher. Staff are reminded that any information that they view on a school machine can be logged Securis. Virus protection The school uses Kaspersky anti-virus protection on all machines, although this is not always 100% effective. The technical support team are responsible to remove any viruses that do infect computers. Cyber bullying (See behaviour policy) What is Cyber bullying? Cyber bullying is the term given to any form of bullying that takes place over the Internet, e mail, mobile phones or any other form of communication device. How do we tackle cyber bullying? Children are regularly reminded about responsible Internet Use. This occurs during Computing, PSHE lessons and assemblies, where they are constantly reinforced and discussed through topics. Children are given the following advice (The detail of which is dependent on the age of the children being taught):

2 Keep personal information private Personal information should be kept private at all times. This includes details such as name, address, photos of yourself and your friends, addresses, home and mobile phone numbers, school name, membership of clubs, information on family and friends, and passwords. If bullies don t have access to this information, the less likely they are to be able to abuse it. Don t believe everything you read Just because someone online tells you that they are 15 doesn t mean they are telling the truth. Even adults can t tell when a male pretends to be a female or a 50 year old pretends to be a 15 year old. Use netiquette Be polite to others online as you would offline. If someone treats you rudely, or is mean, you should not respond. Chances are that the bully will see that they are having no effect, and stop the abusive messages. If not, and the abusive messages continue, seek help from a trusted adult. Never send messages when angry Wait until you have calmed down and had time to think. Do your best to make sure that your messages are calmly and factually written. You will usually regret sending an angry message, sometimes known as a flame or flaming, to someone later on. Once you ve sent a message in anger, it s extremely difficult to undo the damage that can be done. Never open a message from someone you don t know Delete strange s or text messages from people you don t know. If in doubt, seek advice from a trusted adult. If it doesn t look or feel right, it probably isn t Trust your instincts. If you ever see anything on the internet, or receive an or text message that makes you feel uncomfortable, switch off the computer or phone and seek advice from a trusted adult. Don t reply to messages from online bullies Even though you may really want to, this is exactly what online bullies want. They want to know that they ve got you worried and upset. Don t give them that pleasure. Protect yourself Never arrange to meet someone you have met online. Don t keep bullying to yourself You are not alone! Tell a trusted adult. They can help you combat the online bullying. Responsible Internet Use signs are displayed in all classrooms and anywhere else computers are used. Parents are informed of the rules for responsible Internet Use and are encouraged to reinforce these at home. (see attached rules) E safety is also assessed on the Computing assessment grids.

3 Reporting a problem During lessons, staff are responsible to ensure that their class are safe however SLT are responsible for dealing with any issues that arise with e safety. Parents of children involved will be informed and a log of any incidents will be kept within their file. Use of digital and video images. Members of staff are allowed to take digital still and video images to support educational aims, where permission by parents has been granted. They must only capture images using school equipment. Responsibilities of All Staff Teachers and teaching assistants are responsible for ensuring that they have an up to date knowledge of e safety and have read and agreed to the Acceptable Use policy for staff. They must report any e safety issues to SLT and complete the e safety incident form. Any communications with pupils must only be used in conjunction with the school e mail system on a professional basis. SLT should be informed of this. Photographs We value our school website and Twitter feed. Through these we celebrate our achievements. Currently only the SLT can publish information on the website or Twitter. When we publish on the school s website or Twitter, permission from parents has been granted to use their child s image. Pupil s full names will not be used with any photograph on the website or Twitter. This policy is updated annually. Last updated September 2015

4 E Safety rules These E-safety Rules help to protect students and the school by describing acceptable ICT use. I understand the school owns the computer network and can set rules for its use to keep me safe. I will only use ICT systems in school, including the internet, and digital pictures for school purposes. I will only log on with my own user name and password. I will not share my passwords with anyone. I will only use my school address at school. I will make sure that all messages are responsible, respectful and sensible. I will be responsible for my behaviour when using the internet. This includes resources and the language I use. I will not give out any personal information about myself or anyone else when using the internet. If I accidentally come across any material that makes me uncomfortable I will report it to a teacher. I will not download or install software. If loaned equipment by the school, it will be returned at the appropriate time in the same condition. I will respect the privacy and ownership of others work online at all times. I understand the school may watch / monitor my use of the school s computer systems. I understand that I will only be allowed to use the school equipment and systems by following these rules. I understand that if I break the above rules that sanctions will be taken. 5 Staff Acceptable Use Policy I will only use the school s digital technology resources and systems for Professional purposes or for uses deemed reasonable by the Head and Governing Body. I will not allow unauthorised individuals to access / Internet / intranet / network, or other school / LA systems. I will ensure all documents, data etc., are saved, accessed and deleted in accordance with the school s network and data security and confidentiality protocols. I will not engage in any online activity that may compromise my professional responsibilities. I will only use the approved school , or other school approved communication systems with pupils or parents/carers, and only communicate with them on appropriate school business. I will not browse, download or send material that could be considered offensive to colleagues. I will report any accidental access to, or receipt of inappropriate materials, or filtering breach to the appropriate line manager / school named contact. I will not download any software or resources from the Internet that can compromise the network, or are not adequately licensed. I will ensure that any private social networking sites / blogs etc that I create or actively contribute to are not confused with my professional role. I understand that data protection policy requires that any information seen by me with regard to staff or pupil information, held within the school s information management system, will be kept private and confidential, EXCEPT when it is deemed necessary that I am required by law to disclose such information to an appropriate authority. I will embed the school s e-safety curriculum into my teaching. I understand that all Internet usage / and network usage can be logged and this information could be made available to my manager on request. 6 Cherry Orchard Primary School Parental Consent Form At Cherry Orchard Primary School we aim to provide high quality learning opportunities as part of our exciting curriculum. To aid us with delivering this curriculum, we require your permission for your child to participate in a number of activities while they are here. Please could you complete and sign each section. We may use these images in our schools prospectus or in other printed publications that we produce, as well as on our website, Twitter account or on school display boards. From time to time, our school may be visited by the media who will take photographs or film footage. Internet Access Acceptable use Agreement As part of the school s Computing programme we offer pupils supervised access to the Internet. In order to reduce the risk of accidentally accessing inappropriate material; the school uses a provider that prevents access to inappropriate sites; however, no system is fool proof.
