2 Service / Department Description The New Market team (NMD) will be responsible for bringing to life new service models that offer a new innovative approach to mental health recovery aimed at both existing service users and new user cohorts (that could be based on age, location, type of illness), as well as those involved in the delivery of primary and secondary care treatments, that promote and assist the quality and efficiency of interventions, reduce stigma and discrimination and provide a parity of esteem with physical health services. The NMD team work involves the development and testing of new concepts, that will ultimately form new models of delivery that show improved outcomes to service users and / or care professionals. Once these concepts have been tested and proven, they can be included as our desired delivery models within bids for commissioned services, as stand alone value added services or used in co-production with commissioning. There are 4 core elements to delivering these new models and the team will be set up to reflect this Project development and delivery Trust and grant fundraising Evaluation Tenders, relationship management and income generation The NMD team will require a thorough understanding of innovation and trends within the mental health care sector coupled with excellent knowledge of the competitive market place and strong relationships with commissioners. It will need to compliment its creative and innovative outlook with viable options for service delivery, working hard to secure opportunities to test and trial projects, and using the evaluation from these trials to further inform and complete new delivery models in order to bring them to market using its extensive commercial knowledge. Job Purpose This is an important role in supporting the achievement of our key objectives for service and business development in the Rethink Mental Illness national plan. With a good understanding of our core service models, policy and legislation, you will work collaboratively with cross functional colleagues and service forums to innovate and enhance provision to meet emerging trends or commissioner needs. Reporting to the Head of New Market, the New Market Business Manager will have a particular focus on: A proactive and commercial approach to bid management for new market development to keep Rethink Mental Illness ahead of the competition through effective and high quality tender responses. Influencing and undertaking the co-production of new service models, inputting into the development of new models that respond to new markets and commissioners needs. To develop and maintain relationships with a portfolio of key customers to influence and win new business. Identify and develop partnerships and alliances to support new service models and innovation in delivery. Gathering market, customer and competitor intelligence and make recommendations on viable opportunities to the Head of New Market. Writing and responding to tenders concerning new models of delivery ensuring timely submission of excellent quality bids. Respond to tenders and work with key stakeholders/partners where required to develop models that meet commissioners needs. Playing a key role in tender presentation teams or to brief Area Business Managers as required. Providing technical support and information that enables Operational colleagues and the Service Team to market and sell new models.
3 Specific duties and responsibilities Establish and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of customers and funders at all levels to understand market drivers, gather intelligence, and actively sell new models as commercial applications To manage tender opportunities relating to new markets, ensuring that the tenders submitted are of the highest quality and represent the maximum opportunity of success for Rethink Mental Illness. Ensure strong working relationships with other functional teams are developed and maintained such as the Trust and Grant team, Regional teams, HR, Finance, Communications and the Service team to ensure that appropriate resources are available to complete submissions and support the project team to ensure all critical deadlines are met. To play a key role in the development of new markets, developing new and innovative service models and initiatives which support the achievement of our business objectives of income growth To contribute to bringing ideas to market, drawing on your knowledge of existing services, and intelligence gathered from the market place To ensure effective communication between New Market, Service and Operations Managers; working collaboratively to promote and sell new service models to commissioners and other funders, working as part of a project team to develop and implement new services. To support Benchmarking and Competitor Analysis, and to maintain information about commissioning trends and funding models; understanding our competitors and develop ideas and plans on how to stay ahead of the competition. Gather knowledge relating to good practice relevant to our service priorities, with particular attention to outputs and outcomes; and keep abreast of changes to legislation, policy, service delivery and service needs to continually develop and improve models Support the development of tailored marketing material, presentations and proposals, ensuring that our offer is innovative and competitive against other providers. This will include writing and editing copy to a very high standard and working in collaboration with the Communications & Marketing Team. To support the preparation of tender presentations and be a member of the presentation team, leading when required. This will include ensuring presentations are devised and the presentation team are fully prepared and can effectively articulate new products and models. To attend meetings, events and conferences nationally as directed by the Head of New Market Travel throughout the country and work flexibly to meet the requirements of the job role (e.g. occasional evenings and days at weekends) This is a national post which may require extensive travel, on all forms of public transport in order to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of this role. Experience Experience of development work in a service provider organisation with proven experience of developing successful bids is essential. Experience of business development in social care, ideally within the mental health field would be desirable. Strong planning and project management skills with proven ability to successfully execute projects from initiation to realisation. Experience working in a team environment and ability to adapt and to influence internal and external stakeholders. Able to demonstrate strong market / product development skills. Ability to understand customer needs, opportunities for value creation and convert to real business opportunities. Ability to represent the Charity professionally to a range of external audiences, speaking with authority and conviction on a wide range of issues relevant to the mental health sector and operating environment. Understanding of the evolving landscape of the NHS and Local Authorities in England, with a particular regard to service commissioning and procurement in mental health.
