2 WHIRLWIND OF SUMMER FUN & FRIENDS STARTS HERE Welcome to Summer Camp 2014 at the Y Summer Camp at the Canandaigua YMCA is a time for amazing experiences, new memories and days filled with lots of fun and laughter. Through interactions with other children and leadership development within our program, your children have the opportunity to develop many skills that will help them successfully tackle the future. Every day is an adventure! Kids will enjoy a summer full of nature, water fun, games, field trips, sports, arts, crafts, science and more. Every week there is a different theme and field trip to keep things fresh. We look forward to welcoming your child to camp this summer for a memorable & magical experience. Sincerely, Todd Freelove Youth & Family Director Preschool Summer Camp Don t forget about the little ones! Sign up for Summer Preschool. Help your 3-5 year old hold onto the important concepts learned throughout the school year, while having a TON of fun! Exciting themes, walking field trips and visits from fun community organizations like the Wildlife Defenders and others will make this a summer to remember! Contact MShaver@Canandaigua-YMCA.org for more information! The whole way home (my daughter) sang and shared about her week at camp. - Mother of a 2013 camper
3 A DAY IN THE LIFE... ly Themes: 1, June 30 July 3: We are Family - (Closed Fri. July 4 th ) Onanda Park (July 2) Don t miss this first week of summer camp as we get to know everyone through team building activities, crafts and more. Our first field trip will be to Onanda Park for swimming, field games and hiking. 2, July 7-11: Down the Rabbit Hole Corning Museum of Glass (July 9) Like Alice entering the Rabbit Hole, we will enter a topsy, turvy land where anything can happen. Our balance will be tested, dream journals will be started, and Salivador Dali's melting clocks will influence drawings. Finally we will adventure to The Corning Museum of Glass where we will see all things glass and experience it firsthand. (And a stop for ice cream on the way back.) 3, July 14-18: Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Minnehans Go-Carts (July 16) Our need for speed in go-carts will be a safe one as we meet with local emergency service agencies. Fire department, police and rescue personnel will host demonstrations and teach the meaning of being a true leader. Then we ll enjoy a safe ride around the track at Minnehans. 4, July 21-25: Fairy Tales & Super Heros - Seabreeze Park (July 23) The kids will use their imagination and creativity to learn and tell stories through writing, acting and developing comics. We will have our own real life adventure to Seabreeze Amusement Park. 5, July 28 August 1: Expedition to the Unknown - Seneca Park Zoo (July 30) We'll spend the week in uncharted waters by creating treasure maps, learning about some of the great travelers of history and doing exciting science experiments. The children's senses and endurance will be tested by obstacle courses and blindfolded competitions. This will culminate with an expedition to the Seneca Park Zoo where we will take time to draw and learn about the animals like explorers before us. 6, August 4 August 8: Wet n Wild - Roseland Water Park (Aug. 6) Surf s up Campers! Join our wave that will cause one bodacious splash! With a week full of wacky water games and radical activities there is no way you will escape dry. We will travel down the street and make a real splash at the waterpark. 7, August 11 - August 15: Rock, Paper, Scissor s Jungle Jolt (Aug 13) Learn how to problem solve the old fashion way. You ll get crafty this week with rocks, paper and scissors. Enjoy lots of paper crafts and rock out with our in house DJ. 8, August 18 - August 22: I Love the 90 s - Bowling (Aug 20) Kicking it old school with a week of celebrating the 90 s in style with music, game shows, break dancing competitions and more! For our field trip campers will enjoy a day at the lanes. 9, August 25 - August 29: Adventure land - Baker Park (August 27) Our camp will become an Adventure Land by creating unique activities and races in different areas of camp - Tomorrow Land, Frontier Land, Fantasy Land, etc To wrap up camp and a fantastic summer, we ll celebrate at Baker Park; parents are invited to join. * Note: All field trips are subject to change.

5 SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE YMCA Youth Day Camp Kindergarten - 5 th Grade Traditional camp is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. Few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Our camper to counselor ratio is as follows for the appropriate age group: (Kids are placed into the group of the grade they are entering. Ages 5-12) Grade K 1: 8 campers to1 counselor Grades 2-3: 10 campers to 1 counselor Grades 4-5: 10 campers to 1 counselor Cost: $170 Member/$215 Non-member Teen Trackers: 6 th -UP (11yr & up) This summer teens will be able to experience an unforgettable summer filled with fun and learning, while making new friends. Each week is jammed packed with activities to stimulate their minds and offer opportunities to grow as an individual. They will participate in team building workshops to build self-esteem, learn to overcome peer pressure, gain decision making skills and more. Teens: 12 campers to 1 counselor Cost: $120 member/$165 non-member Counselor in Training (CIT): Grades 9 th -12 th (14yr 17yr) We provide teens an opportunity for real life job training by participating in four 2-week CIT sessions. Teens will need to interview, provide references and fill out a job application along with a completed camp registration to be hired as a CIT. Through the summer, CIT s will participate in many trainings including, but not limited to: basic first aid, CPR, Team building and C.A.T.C.H. This program gives kids challenges that build their skills, confidence and capacity for working with people of all ages. * 9th graders must have been a previous camper COST: $130/2 weeks (CIT is bi-weekly) Our Staff You are leaving your kids with individuals who are dedicated to nurturing the potential of youth and teens. Most of our staff were campers at one time, so they have the enthusiasm and knowledge to build the best summer camp environment! All summer camp staff go through extensive background checks, and are certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. Check out our parent packet for more information on the staff.
