1 Getting into film is simple, with lots of benefits We know your time is limited so we try to make getting Into Film as easy as possible. We advise you start with a few basic steps, then slowly but surely you can take advantage of all that we have to offer. We also have a team of programme coordinators on hand to help so please don t hesitate to get in touch if there is anything you need. Into Film is a UK-wide programme of learning through and about film, providing 5-19 year olds with unparalleled opportunities to see, think, make and imagine. Our offer includes: Film clubs Screening regular films will increase students cultural awareness, helping them understand new ideas and concepts. Discussing and reviewing films help their skills in analytics, literacy and communication, as well as improving their social interaction. Resources Our resources are designed to work both in and outside of school. Consisting of lesson plans, worksheets, PowerPoint presentations and information guides, these imaginative and effective materials enrich the learning experiences of young people and give educators dynamic tools to bring subjects, issues and debates alive. Training and development Taking up our training and development opportunities will empower you to use film as a teaching tool across the curriculum. Filmmaking opportunities Through outreach projects, resources, workshops, competitions and matchmaking activities, we provide the support required to facilitate filmmaking. Industry interactions Professionals from all areas of film production visit our clubs, to answer young people s questions illuminating the challenges and rewards of their careers, while offering advice on how to enter the industry. Cinema events Into Film receives great support from the industry which allows us to host the Into Film Festival and provide year-round screening events and activities. Opportunities for young people Through our Talent Development Programme young people can apply to be ambassadors at red carpet events and previews. There is also the opportunity for young people to become members of our Youth Advisory Council and become the voice of Into Film, representing members from across the UK. It s is all about inspiring young people to engage in film as an art form, as a way to develop critical thinking, as a way of promoting extended literacy and as a way to enhance social skills and social belonging. 2 Film clubs One way of making the most of your Into Film membership is to run a regular film club. By having the same members each week, students will start to feel both a sense of ownership over their club and feel safe to express themselves during related activities. In order to get the most out of your club please send us a signed copy of your Into Film agreement if you haven t yet done this, you can download one online. Once we have received this agreement, you will receive your Into Film welcome pack including posters and membership cards. Your signed agreement also enables us able to set up your LOVEFiLM by Post account, giving you the opportunity to order and receive films from our curated catalogue. Choosing films and make the screening space work for you Your first batch of films will normally be with you within 2 weeks of ordering. After that your films should take 3-5 working days to arrive. You will need to complete our Into Film agreement form which is located on your homepage when you login to your Into Film account. You will receive 3 DVDs at a time, so this helps with forward planning. It can be a good idea to stay in possession of at least 2 unwatched films so you are never without an option to use. Please do not keep films for more than 8 weeks. Be sure to keep a minimum of 20 films on your list - LOVEFiLM by Post works better this way - and contact your programme coordinator if you have any problems choosing, receiving or sending them. Try to choose the same space each week to run your club and set a good atmosphere for the screening. Clear away any distractions, pull the blinds down (or add sugar paper to your windows) and dim the lights so that your screening room feels more like a cinema than a classroom! A good way to get your members involved is to encourage them to help you set up the room and equipment. This can also add to their sense of ownership. Watch a diverse selection of films We have a curated catalogue of thousands of films including foreign language, black and white films and documentaries. You can balance and supplement mainstream films with challenging choices or complement topics you may currently be studying in class. Try starting your club with a film that will capture members attention like a surefire hit, then once the club is running gradually introduce more varied films to engage students with interesting new subject matter. Discussing and reviewing the films Many clubs find that discussing and reviewing films is a great way to stimulate interest in developing critical analysis. Your members may begin with one line about the film, but hopefully, over time, they ll gain the confidence to write more in-depth reviews, better expressing themselves and their opinions. If you need help getting your students registered and ready to write reviews, please contact your programme coordinator who would be more than happy to help.

3 Resources From film review writing tips and SEN resources that can aid the curriculum, to in-depth film guides examining subjects like bullying and World Aids Day, our website holds hundreds of excellent tools to help you spark discussion and debate after screenings. Making films in your club Filmmaking is such an accessible activity; it allows all pupils, even those who may struggle with traditional learning methods, to succeed. We can offer a whole host of filmmaking support including a range of filmmaking resources that can help beginners, through to more structured guidance for those who have some experience. Online guides Designed for you We provide resources that help in day-to-day teaching and focus on curriculum subjects and emerging educational topics including Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, pastoral issues that concern young people and digital literacy. Our breadth of resources means that they can appeal to and engage all learners, including hard to reach and disadvantaged groups and young people with special needs. They also include some great warm up activities and top tips on getting your film seen beyond the classroom. Filmmaker videos Our video content puts your club into contact with film industry professionals so that your members can browse Q&As with film industry experts from the whole spectrum of the film industry including producers, visual effects editors and casting directors. Your members will: understand how a film is made, whether it be a short film, animation or documentary be inspired to consider a career in film themselves Our club members have conducted hundreds of fantastic interviews over the years including talking to George Clooney and Sandra Bullock on the red carpet, an in-school visit from Julie Walters, and a press junket interview with Jennifer Lawrence.

My club s reviews Here you will be able to read all reviews written by your club; an opportunity to observe their activity and progress on our website. Messages from Into Film You will see short messages alerting you to relevant articles, events and resources that may interest your club. Club activity A display of all the announcements you have made (most commonly notifying members of an upcoming screening).

6 Manage my club View a list of all your current club members. Add and remove members and provide them with new passwords if required. See how many films your club has watched and how many reviews have been written by your members. Manage my films Recommended Receive film recommendations from Into Film. Orders View your current order list. Past orders A list archiving all the films your club has ever ordered. Wishlist Members can nominate films they want to see at your film club. Click wishlist to see what they have requested. My account You can change your personal details and login details. Making announcements The black bar across the top of these four management pages provides further ways to make running your club easy. Order materials Create your club environment and order free materials from us, including membership cards. Order our free posters to advertise upcoming screenings. Announcements Announce an upcoming club meeting or communicate any other notifications to your club. Members will receive the message on their very own Coming soon to my club page. Age-appropriate Each of our clubs fall into three phases of education Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form. We respect these different levels of understanding by placing age-appropriate articles and videos on member pages (visible when they log-in).
