1 University of International Business and Economics Introduction A national key university under the leadership of the Ministry of Education of China One of the first universities to be constructed under Project 211 The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), situated in the northeast of Beijing, was founded in UIBE is a national key university under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, and is also a part of "Project 211", a governmental program aimed at turning about 100 Chinese universities into exceptionally high quality academic institutions in the 21st century. Now UIBE is one of the most important institutes for talents' training and scientific research on Chinese economic and business development. UIBE pursues to be an outstanding national university and a prestigious international university with its distinct characteristics. After nearly 60-year development, UIBE has already become a multidisciplinary university specialized in the fields of economics, management, liberal arts and law, and competitive in the subjects such as international trade, law (international law), finance, business management and foreign languages (business languages). At present, UIBE offers nearly 40 majors to overseas students for bachelor, master and doctoral study. Among them, some majors in economics and management can be entirely offered in English. UIBE has a total enrollment of nearly 13,000 fulltime schooling students including more than 2,800 international students from over 120 countries. China Scholarship Council and Beijing municipal government offer a variety of scholarships for international students visiting China, providing tuition, textbooks fee, living expenses, insurance and accommodation, etc. In addition, the

3 Non-degree Programs Chinese Language and Training Program 1. Elementary Chinese: This program is divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels with each level further divided into 3 levels to allow students at similar Chinese levels to be grouped together. The curriculum focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, modern grammar and essay writing. 2. Business Chinese: This program is divided into five levels. Students should have 100 hours of Chinese language learning experiences, or had Chinese vocabulary. According to the different levels of Chinese skills, set the corresponding Business Chinese courses, including International Business Chinese; Oral Practice; Business Chinese Listening and Reading and so on. Through Chinese language study and the participation in language practice, students would be able to attain higher Chinese proficiency level in business environment. 3. Intensive Chinese The School of International Education of UIBE takes the lead in China to launch the Chinese language training program, "Intensive Chinese", which is elaborately designed for the students who hope to improve their Chinese proficiency rapidly in a short amount of time. Training objective: For the students who hope to improve their Chinese proficiency rapidly in a short amount of time. Training goals: With the high intensive training, scientific curriculum, and flexible supplementary means after class, students can make great progress in their ability to listen, to speak, to read and to write in Chinese. Teaching method: To allow students to study both in ordinary and tutorial classes, to combine group class teaching with individual teaching, to give classroom instruction with extracurricular activities (debating, internship, speaking competition, travel, etc.) Term set: The program lasts 16 weeks within one semester, and classes are held for 30 hours each week. (In addition, the teachers instruct students to review and preview their study) Compulsory course: Include Discussion on Social Hot Topics, Business Newspaper Reading, Commercial Conversation, Training Course for HSK Test, etc. Management method: this program adopts close relation's management method, avoids the mother tongue disturbance, help students achieve Chinese study goal as soon as possible. 4. Prep-course prior to Bachelor Programs 1) Preparatory Course for Bachelor Programs Through one academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters, totally 36 weeks) continuous study in Preparatory Course, students can improve their abilities in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, and mathematics, etc., and finally achieve the entry level of bachelor s programs (offered in Chinese) at UIBE. In other words, the students can reach new HSK 3-4 in Chinese, pass level of College Entrance Exam in mathematics (for arts students), and College English Test band 3 in English. 2) Intensive Preparatory Course for Bachelor Programs Through one academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters, totally 36 weeks) or one semester (Spring Semester weeks) continuous study in Intensive Preparatory Course, students can improve their abilities in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, and mathematics, etc., and finally achieve the entry level of bachelor s program (offered in Chinese) at UIBE. In other words, the students can reach new HSK 3-4 in Chinese, pass level of College Entrance Exam in mathematics (for arts students), and College English Test band 3 in English. Conditions to Enter into UIBE s Bachelor Programs Participants in Preparatory Course can move

4 up to UIBE s Bachelor Programs automatically if they: a) Observe school rules and regulations b) Obtain the new HSK Level 4 certificate (at least 180 points) c) Have outstanding results in regular tests and exams in Spring Semester Chinese Business Study Programs The program aims to allow students of a high proficiency in Chinese to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of modern China's economic environment in a short period of time. At present, the program is divided into two sub-programs (A and B) as detailed below. Generally speaking, Program A starts in fall and Program B in spring. Students who have completed all the courses and passed all the course examinations will be granted a certificate of completion. 1. UIBE offers the programs in the fields of economics, business, and culture to international students. All the courses are taught in English or other foreign languages by outstanding professors from UIBE and other famous universities in China. China and Korea International Trade Analysis Application requirements If students have applied to study in the Chinese Language Training Program, they can take 1 ~ 5 economic courses. If students do NOT apply for the Chinese Language Training Program, they should take 4 ~ 5 English economic courses (at least 4 courses). The tuition for the economic courses is RMB 3,000 per course. At the end of the program, the students will receive a certificate of completion and academic credits from UIBE. Fees For Self-financed International Students 1. Intensive Chinese is RMB 19,800 for first semester and RMB 18,800 for each subsequent semester. 4) Chinese Business and Cultural Studies: RMB 3,000 per course. 5) General Scholar: the same as Bachelor s tuition 6) Senior Scholar: the same as Master s or Doctoral tuition 3. Material fee: It refers to the actual price of the textbooks. 4. Accommodation: Single room RMB /day; Double room RMB 35-75/person/day. Each room is equipped with bathroom, furniture, beddings, A/C, telephone, refrigerator, TV set, Internet jack, etc.
