2 OUTLINE/OVERVIEW OF MODULES Session Title Overview Length of Time Method(s) of Presenting Content Session 1: What is a Leader? Do I Qualify? Session 2: Challenges and Opportunities for Leaders Session 3: Communication: Negotiation and Feedback Session 4: Delegation: Key to Successful Leadership Session 5: Conflict Resolution This session will help participants to develop a shared understanding of leadership. Participants will develop an understanding of the transformational leadership style and will be asked to describe qualities of nursing leaders they work with. What makes the leader one that others want to follow? We will also explore the difference between a Leader and a Boss. The session will allow participants to understand that a challenge is an opportunity to rise to another level. A review of Kouzes and Posner s Model, describing the 5 practices of a leader: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act and encourage the heart. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how they apply them to their own settings. Nursing leaders are advocates for their patients and there are many opportunities for them to communicate with patients, families, and interprofessional health care team members in developing the best plan of care. Negotiation and feedback are two essential skills in promoting excellent communication, with the goal of providing care that is patientcentered. Participants will have opportunities to review a case study and to practice negotiating and providing feedback during this module. In this session, we will review the 5 Rights of delegation and showcase the vital role communication plays in delegation, as well as building trust. As long as one person is working with others, there will always be conflict. How do nursing leaders continue to 2 45 minutes Lecture/ppt slides/participants to share 1 hour Lecture/ppt slides/participants to share 1 ¼ hours Lecture/ppt slides/participants to practice negotiation and providing feedback via case study/role play 1 hour Lecture/ppt slides, review of case study/role play 1 hour Lecture/ppt slides, review a case study/role play
